Millennial Musings: Student Life
Winter & spring was a fruitful time for our students. The past few months featured winter retreats, a men’s retreat some of our young men attended, an NBA Game Break trip to Salt Lake, hosting a group from Oregon and weekly meetings characterized by worship, discipleship, prayer & fellowship.
Growth has been a hallmark. The Millennial Generation, as they are dubbed, are in search of real truth not relative truth and are more engaged than previous generations. Consequently, our students have responded well to the truths of scripture and the challenge, the call, to share their faith in both word & deed. As a result of this growth, Mayra Ramirez, a high school student invited & ministered to by one of our students, Jillian App, professed her faith in Christ at our HS winter retreat. Other marks of maturity are evident in the lives of many of our students – take some time to visit with them.
The constant prayers offered up on behalf of our students through our Prayer Warrior ministry are both vital and fruitful – the prayers of the righteous are powerful & effective (paraphrase of James 5:16b)! A great big thanks to those who have committed to praying for a student or two over the course of the year!
With summer approaching we’re gearing up for seasonal ministry changes. On tap for summer will be a valley wide youth all-nighter, a high school evangelism mission trip, a joint Jr. Hi & HS concert trip and several outdoor adventure excursions. We will suspend weekly youth group meetings and move to smaller, weekly study & accountability D-Groups for both age groups.
Another feature of our summer student ministry will be a weekly college-age meeting that several of our college students have expressed interest in. Our college ministry will feature active recreation and in-depth discussion/study.
Look for updates in the bulletin and calendars that will be sent to students’ families for dates & times.
For His Glory,
G
P.S. Pastor Jeff Gaertner is affectionately referred to by students as “G” because his last name is not easy to pronounce for many students and because we have a tendency in our culture to shorten names.
