A Priest Forever, According to the Order of Melchizedek First B Jackson 2019-10-20 Automatically transcribed. Where this and the recording disagree, the recording is the record. ---- Good morning. Y'all can have a seat. I have a few announcements this morning and I probably have forgotten one announcement this morning. KC McCooey is here. I forgot your slide but it's here. Hey, here we go. I'm flipping through em and don't even know it. Here we are. So, there's a junior high and high school girl study that is going on during this service downstairs when Peak Children's Church starts up. There's also a junior high and high school girl study. If you'd like to go down to that, you're welcome to. Judy Wells is leading that. Youth group is tonight, five to seven tonight, Mike D. Great. Yes. Yeah. Seven downstairs. Downstairs here at the church in the Youth Room. Fantastic. If you are not coming to Awana, kiddos, if you're not coming to Awana, you're missing out. So, that starts Monday nights, 05:45, goes to 07:30 and it's pretty fun. They have puggles and cubbies and sparkies and truth and training. So, that goes from age two all the way through fifth grade and if there's a sixth grader or seventh grader who's been through it, they're helping to lead the younger ones and that's a fun time. If you'd like to volunteer, that's still, there's still some slots available there. Monday night at first B. Yep. At the same time is Monday nights down the hall at 06:00. Meal music message and then we're finishing up the the book of Jonah tomorrow. Alright, that's fun. Jonah, rebellious prophet. Yep. Alright. Prophet. That's meal music and a message down the hall there. There's a Bible study. It's actually 12:45, not 12:30, but there's a Bible study at the senior center. So, come eat lunch there for seniors like 60 and over, I think is what they counted the senior. It's $4. If you're younger than that, it's $8 but it's worth it. It's really good food. Come at twelve and then come to the Bible study. Roseanne told me she was looking for young folks. So, if you're 60 to 65, that would be who she's talking about. She says, there's an aging population in that Bible study. So, if you want to go join em, it should be a lot of fun. It's been going on since 2003 and it's one of the most steady small groups that we've had. It's also open up to anybody from any background denomination, whatever. So, people coming together is what it's about. Roseanne tries to keep it between the lines, right? Keeping it on track. So, twelve forty five is a Bible study at the Senior Center at Jackson Hole. Precept study. Have you wanted to try a precept study? If you have, here's an opportunity and it says up there that it's going to be Acts but it's not. We're going to do a three week study of Lamentations. So, what happens when a nation turns its back on God? What lessons are there for us as individuals in dealing with the aftermath of rebellion, of listening to false prophets. We can reconstruct the shambles of our life. I'm reading this if you can't tell. We can reconstruct the shambles of our life and make it worth living again because God is a god of compassion. We just need to learn how to tap into his mercies which are new every morning. So, where do people turn when there's nothing but misery all around them and in whom do you put your trust and hope, the only true hope we have is in the Lord. So, come study Lamentations with the precept folks and it's the same time, Thursdays at nine through 11:30 and get a glimpse of the God whose compassions never fail. So, it's a three week study. It's actually going to begin Thursday, November 7 at 9AM and everybody's welcome. Seventh, fourteenth, twenty first. So, the three weeks up to Thanksgiving is going to be that. Jackson Hole Men's Alliance is starting October 23. So, that's this week, Wednesday, AM early, 06:00 in this room starting out. Wednesdays are something else in this building. There there are groups from all descriptions that come in on Wednesday but Wednesday morning, 6AM, the men's group, Jackson Hole Men's Alliance, formerly known as men's fraternity. Yeah. The artist formerly known as men's fraternity. Bible study is on Ephesians this time and that should be good. Would you explain this? Yeah. Yep. So there's a band coming and they're coming, not Week from tomorrow. Yeah. A week from tomorrow. Monday. Right? Monday week if you bring this up. Yep. Called Tim and the Glory Boys, and you probably have heard some of these folks on the radio and may not even know it, but I would really love for you to be here. It's a free concert, Monday night. But please come. Seriously, we're it'll be right here. Let's fill up this room, and it'll be a blast. It really will. Come bring somebody with you. Come on in and bring somebody with you. It ought to be fun. Tim and the Glory Boys. Yeah. Nursery needs volunteers. As always, you can always bet. If you come and you think, how can I plug in and how can I serve? It's almost always. You can serve in the nursery. So, nursery, if you contact Bailey Morley, Bailey MorleyGmail dot com is one way to get in touch with her. Connect hour also needs volunteers and so that's a way you can plug in if you like to. That's fixing basically brunch, breakfast for the crowd in between services we get together for the connect hour down the hall that's probably next. Yep And if you'd like to help out, the church pays for the food, you just kind of set it up. So, that'd be fun. If it'd be fun for your family, then, jump on in and do that. I feel like I'm running through the announcements like I got a long sermon. I don't think I do but anyway, would you all stand up, greet one another. If I've missed anything, it should be in your bulletin. Hold on a second. Before you do that, hold on. I did miss that one. There are Operation Christmas Child boxes in the back back there And I don't see I didn't lock eyes with Casey McCooey. Is she here? Not yet. Okay. So there is a table back there with a bunch of red and green boxes. Operation Christmas Child, you all know what it is. There's a wrapping party on November 20. So, if you'd get your box today, start stuffing it full of good little Christmas items. You can go online if you want some suggestions as to what to put in there but if you do that, we'll get together and wrap em up November 20 and take em where they need to go. Thank you very much. Now, you could stand up, greet one another, we'll bring you back together with a song. Let's sing it out. How great the chasm that lay between us. How high the mountain I could not climb in desperation. God, we sing to you because truly you are our living hope. It is because of your death, but resurrection that you are alive, that you are living, that you are active, God, that you are in the business of trans transforming us, that you are in the business of breaking chains. And so, Lord, today, would we allow you, Lord? Would we bend our our will, yield our will to yours this morning to say, alright. I'm gonna stop holding on so tight to whatever it is that I'm holding on so tightly to that may be destructive and and allow, Lord, for you to to break those chains as you so do. Amen. Can I share just a couple of verses here? Let's be encouraged by God's word this morning. From Colossians, it says, since since you've been raised with Christ, set your heart on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not earthly things, for you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, is your life, appears, then you will also appear with him in glory. Amen to that? Let's be setting our things on things above. Here's another verse that that I wanna share with you. Psalm one thirty nine. Says, let's make this our prayer and our song by the way. Search me o God and know my heart. Can we say that to the Lord this morning? Test me and know my anxious thoughts. There's some of those aren't there? Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me along the path of everlasting life. We make that our prayer and our song this morning and say, here's my heart. Here's my heart, Lord. Speak what is true. Here's what's true. I am found. I am yours. I am love. I'm with you. I have light. Here's my heart, Lord. Here's my hears what's true. You are strong. You are sure. You are life. You endure. Speak what is Amen. Y'all can have a seat. Invite the frontline team to come forward Lord, thank you for this morning. I thank you for for this gathering in your name, for these people that are gathered from all over the place in your name. It's good to get together. It's good to be in in the congregation, the assembly this morning where we gather in your name, for your will and for your way, your purpose. Lord, would you show us what that is? As we take up the offering here this morning, God, I pray that you direct in every way. You direct the gift for the particular giver that you direct it to go where you would have it go, to do what you would have it do. May it not ever return void or may we steward that well and with your kingdom's purpose forefront in our mind. In Jesus name, we ask lord for you to work and move among us this morning. We are looking forward to complete consummation of the kingdom of God. Lord, we want others to be brought in to the family of God. Would you do your will, your way, through your obedience servants this morning. In Jesus name, would you bless? Can we sing this together? It's time now for children's church to start up downstairs and there's a junior high and high school girls study also Cold outside but it's warm up here. So, here we are at Hebrews seven eleven through 28. That's where we are today. We're still in that passage that's talking about Melchizedek and if you didn't catch that one last week and you want to hear more about it verses one through 10, we did that and it's online and you can go back and listen to it. I'm trying not to repeat myself this morning. We'll see. Seven eleven says this now, if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood, if this conditional, right? If perfection was through the Levitical priesthood, for on the basis of that, the people received the law. We're going straight into talking about the law. Now, remember Hebrews was written to folks in the first century who are under persecution and considering going away from Jesus and towards Judaism back to the old covenant after they had been exposed to the new covenant. So, that's the that's the impetus and the reason for fighting this. That's an incredibly Old Testament driven argument. So, for those of us who are New Testament Christians or in a church that's been doing a New Testament study for the last six and a half years, then, we don't get exposed to the Old Testament nearly as much but the argument that the writer of Hebrews is making to people from a Jewish background is all Old Testament based. So, if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood, for on the basis of it, the people received the law at the Exodus on Sinai, right? That's where if the perfection was possible through there, what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek. We know that the Levites were the priestly line and it was, I mentioned, I'm going to repeat myself. I'm going do it over and over probably but there's like a camp out All of these masses of Hebrews and different tribes are responsible for different things on the camp out for forty years and the Levites were the ones who are tasked after Sinai with being the priest. Moses and Aaron's line up from Levi there. Great great granddaddy. What further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek? This argument is going to go on. He'll mention or the writer of Hebrews will mention several times. Psalm one hundred ten four. What further need was there for another priest to rise according to the order of Melchizedek cannot be designated according to the order of Aaron. The order of Aaron is the Levites and it went in a succession. Now, as Americans, this is a little bit hard for us to understand because we don't believe in the divine right of kings. We don't care about the firstborn male child of each per each line. We don't think that way. They definitely thought that way and God was revealing his heart and his character. When I got through last week and I talked to somebody, it was Rich Thieg, former pastor Rich Thieg here. Great. Always encouraging. He said, oh, that is so good and he took a not a different take but he took and he said, in the loins up, he was in the loins of his father when this happened. The seminal line of the succession and he said, that's how we receive original sin. It's down from our federal and then, our judicial head this and he he was going on. I was like, wow, that is mind blowing. It's it's something we don't think about as Americans very often but what further need was there? If if we know that they're priest and they always handle the priestly stuff, then, why did we need another? If perfection could come through the other, we wouldn't need this new of a different kind, new one of a different kind is the word. In Greek four, when the priesthood is changed of necessity, there takes place a change of law also. So, change of covenant, old covenant or new covenants, one or the other. Old covenant pointed towards the new covenant, read correctly, the old covenant shows you what is coming and then the new covenant is what it was all about. For the one concerning whom these things are spoken, Jesus. You didn't catch the capital O there. For the one concerning whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe from which no one has ever officiated at the altar. There's not a guy from the tribe of Judah who has acted out of priestly service because he's not a Levi. That wouldn't make any sense. It didn't make any sense for them and so the argument from their friends and family who had not accepted the way, maybe had not been exposed to it or if they exposed to it, they were rejecting it. The argument that they're receiving from their friends who are not under as great a persecution as they were. The argument from them is saying, listen, it didn't make any sense. They're even saying he's the lion of Judah. That can't be a priest. That's ridiculous. The one concern whom these things are about. I I concede that he's not a Levi. Yeah. I know but he's according to the order of Melchizedek. It's something that you haven't considered. Something that they haven't considered. No one's officiated at the altar for it's evident that our lord, the one whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe. Our lord was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests. Okay, I'll give you that. In the Old Testament, you didn't see it coming. It's half the point. Paradigm shift. It's a paradigm shift. You have to think of things in a new way. Pay closer attention to what you've already heard so that you won't drift away from it. From the heart of God, the word of God. And this is clear still. If another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek and it and he did. So, if another one rose, that's Jesus, who has become such, who has become such not on the basis of the law of physical requirements. So, Levite stamped, priestly service, or carrying stuff for the tabernacle. Priestly service, religious folk, y'all the priestly land, y'all deal with that. We'll deal with war. We'll deal with some of the other stuff. You deal with that. Cover. As God has directed, do as best you can to try to cover our guilt. But this one concern whom these things are about. This of the tribe of Judah, this one became such a priest, not on the basis of the law of physical requirement just because he born to be so. But according to the power of an indestructible life. Oh. Amen. It all hinges on the resurrection. Everything in the New Testament. Jesus said he would and then he did. Rise from the dead. His life was indestructible. It was eternal from before the beginning all the way until after the end. According to the power of an indestructible life, Jesus was raised from the dead. He came about being a priest in a different way than those Levites. They're just born into it and as we have examples throughout the Old Testament, there are a lot of em who are born into it that were not terribly priestly. You can look those up. There are plenty Clicky clicker is not clicking. Here it is. For it is a tested of him and it's saying, this is written about Jesus. Psalm one ten. Four, You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. It is a tested of him. Now, y'all have heard of Melchizedek. You've speculated first century Jewish background. Folks, you've speculated about who's this guy? Well, he's kind of random. He's like Chloe in Corinthians. You know who Chloe is in Corinthians? I didn't even remember it was a biblical name. Don't tell us anything about Chloe except for she was either a tattle tale. She told Paul about what was going on in Corinth or she was very concerned. That's all we know about her. That's it of the household of Chloe. It's just folks in our household told about. We don't even know that. So, we might go, oh my, I've gotta examine this. We don't have any other biblical evidence. The Old Testament story about Melchizedek is kind of odd. It's just boom. Comes on the scene like, where did he come from? That didn't make any sense but it did make sense. It was before the law was before the Levites were the priestly land. You haven't considered this because you're concentrating so hard on the law. You're concentrating so hard on being churchy church. You're concentrating so hard on doing everything just right. It's self righteousness but it's a testament of Jesus. You're a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Outside of what other people have considered. For on the one hand, think about this, there is a setting aside of the former commandment because of its weakness and uselessness. Now, just to know the law, does that make you follow the law? How many of y'all have ever texted while you're driving? Yeah. I'm afraid so. Yeah. How many of y'all have ever driven distracted? I spilled something in the car and ran into the grass yesterday. Teton County Sheriff pulled me over. Oh. Yeah. And I was guilty. I was distracted. I was distracted driving. There's no doubt about it. He did not give me a ticket but it was by his mercy not by my worth. Okay. Really? I deserve punishment. Yeah. How many of y'all have ever I could go into any of these, but texting while driving is one that I see people. It's hands free as long as your hand is below the level of the window of the car, you know, or holding it out like this even. It's against the law. Let's don't do that, you know. But does that make us not do it? No. It tells us where we're wrong and that's what the law does. For on the one hand, there's a setting aside of the former commandment because it's weakness and uselessness. That's hard words. It's hard words to a to a group of Torah loving Jewish background believers in the first century and it's hard words for any strict religionist or legalist. It's weakness and uselessness. For the law made nothing perfect. It just lets us know where we go wrong. Actually, I'm going go to Romans for this. Romans switching to Paul for a minute. Romans three nineteen says, now we know that whatever the law says, whatever it says, it speaks to those who are under the law. Who's under the law? Everybody. Everybody. So, that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God. We all stand guilty under the law. If we don't receive the punishment that we deserve, we are receiving God's mercy. So that every mouth may be closed and all the world become accountable to God because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. I'm keying on three things. It speaks to those who are under the law. That's everybody. Every mouth will be closed. It speaks by the works of the law. No flesh will be justified. You can't be good enough to get in. And through the law comes the knowledge of sin. Paul will go on in chapter seven and in chapter eight to talk about how it is lets us know where we're wrong and it does not have the power to make us right. Chapter seven, he struggles, struggles, struggles. What I want to do, I don't do, what I don't do is what I end up doing. Chapter eight says, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Oh, amen because Christ is where it's at and the law is designed to take us from where we are sinful. And have over us the covenant of Jesus, the sinless one so that from above what God sees of us is the righteousness of Christ and he will transform as we submit our will to his. He'll transform our life and we will walk more and more by the will of God. Submitting our will to his. Through the knowledge, through the law comes the knowledge of sin and we can tell what sin is by based on the law. We can and we can tell where we broke it. Paul, he says, coveting. I wouldn't have even known what coveting was except for it was against the rules but then when I found out what it was, I wanted everything that wasn't mine. But the law made nothing perfect. So, Blake, let's go to the video. Before I wait just a second, I'll give you a chance to set up there. So, I I received a word. You stick to the scripture and I love that but I wish you'd talk more about yourself. I'm like, I really don't want to talk about myself. But I have done construction in the past. I have done construction on one particular house and it's gonna be the house that's somewhat featured in this video. I have poured lots of driveways in my past. I've played a lot of basketball in my past. I try to do good things for neighborly reasons like taking care of somebody's dog while they're out of town. Okay? All that. I try to do that sort of stuff. Now, in this video, we'll just play a video. Oh. Can can you there it goes. It's on a loop. That's great, Blake. Oh. Let's do it one more time. Oh. I have played basketball on that goal. I have Oh. I worked on that house before the occupants of that house moved into it. I know that driveway. I stood there. Could stop it now. Thank you. I know all about that. I know that van. I knew the door. I didn't have my keys to the house. That's what it was. The keys to that house I didn't have. So was like, I'm gonna have to go through the doggy door if I'm gonna get in there. I'm too big to go through a doggy door. And I was just kind of perturbed by it, slammed the door, turned around, and bam. You know, I knew it was there. Why did I run into it? I wasn't thinking of sin in the Bible. In the in the New Testament, just a sin but there are three different ways you can consider sin. One of em is absolute rebellion against God and then I think the other ones we've already kind of covered in Hebrews. There's ignorance just outside. I just ignorantly walked into a boat. Guy walks into a bar. Right there. Or misguided. Being trained up in the wrong way, misguided. The law, the knowledge of the law, it don't make anybody perfect. It lets you know where you're wrong. I don't know. I had to use it for something. On the other hand, there's a bringing in of a better hope, a better hope through which we draw near to God. Now, that we had this priestly system and the priestly system four hundred years since God had last spoken through the prophets, right? Four hundred years and we have this system and we are meticulously attempting to follow this system or we've abandoned it altogether and there are some people that are doing that. Because the only hope for that system was always following that system and if you follow it well, you get proud of it and if you don't follow it well, you feel damned by it. There's a better hope than that. There's a hope for transformation and that is found in that indestructible life of Jesus. On the other hand, there's a bringing in of a better hope through which we draw near to God. And in as much, in as much as it was written, it was not without an oath. Now, oaths were really big to these folks back then too and I I would hope that our word means as much today but I don't think it does. Everything's gotta be a written, sealed, signed, contract, and then we quibble over what it really meant. Depends on what definition it is is. And then as much as it was not without an oath, it was with an oath. For they indeed became priest without an oath. Now, that old system, the Levites, it's just because you're born into it. That's the way it is. Good king, bad king, according to the divine right of kings, first born male child, no matter who he is or what he does. For they indeed become priest without an oath. They just were born into it but he, Jesus, with an oath, through the one God who said to him, Jesus, the Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, you are a priest forever and that was written about a thousand BC and Melchizedek was about 1,800 BC. So, eight hundred years later, four hundred years after the Exodus when the law was introduced. The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind. You are a priest forever and the forever is what is hanging in the writer of the Hebrews mind and he wants to transmit that saying, this system is better and now, we're going to go into a series of how much better it is. The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind. You, Jesus, you are a priest forever. So much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant. You can see it by the way. He lived out his life. You can see it by the way he was raised from the dead. He is the guarantee of this better covenant. So much the more we've heard, he was so much the more better than the angels and so much the more better. We've heard it twice already before in Hebrews. Well, how exactly is it better? And this is the list that starts. The former priest, on the one hand existed in greater numbers. Well, former priest greater numbers. Because they were prevented by death from continuing. Well, yeah, you gotta have a lot of fill ins because they're not going to last forever. Greater numbers but they died and so therefore, they were temporary. That's the point. But Jesus, on the other hand, because he continues forever, he holds the priesthood permanently. So, Jesus is absolutely unique. Actually, that's where it says, another of a different kind. Another of a different kind. This is something greater and more above. He's absolutely unique. He lives forever. Therefore, he is permanent. So, that's the comparison. This is a better covenant, old versus new. Therefore, verse 25, he is able to save forever. Oh my goodness. You know, the day of atonement was just one time a year and they were building up saying that, yeah, they were weekly, there was daily, there were things for the religious that they were doing to try to absolve themselves from sin but we'll get to further in Hebrews this. Blood of bulls and goats never did do it. It just pointed towards blood that would do. Therefore, he's able to save forever. Those who draw near to God through him. What did Jesus say? He said, I am the way. I am the truth. I am the life and no one comes to the father except through me. Therefore, he's able to save forever those who draw near to God through him since he always lives to make intercession for them. So, here are our list so far. Jesus is absolutely unique where as they're just a whole bunch of run-in the mill priest. They're just born into it. Jesus lives forever and they died, all of em without exception. Jesus is permanent. They were temporary. He's able to save forever. My God is mighty to save. He lives still in what's he doing? Seated at the right hand of the father making intercession for us. Amen. For it was fitting. Now, we've seen it was fitting. This says, it was fitting for us. The the last time we saw it, it says, it was fitting for him. It was fitting for him. For whom are all things and through whom are all things and bringing many sons to glory to perfect the author of their salvation through suffering. Jesus paid the price of a perfect life and we can't. He had no sin record so he could exchange that in. For everyone who sinned in Adam and everyone who sinned themselves, he had the right to do this. He was perfected. Through his suffering but it was fitting for us to have such a high priest. He's holy. Oh, we can go on the list here. Innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners. He is apart from consecrated. He is not a sinner himself. And exalted above the heavens. So, that's what we have here. Greater numbers, they die temporary. Old covenant, that's what you're thinking about going back to people. You really? You're going to get to know one of those priests and he's going to be your guy and then he's going to die. Or or today, if I'm if I may borrow and say, you're to get to know one of these pastors and then he's going to disappoint you. He's going to hurt you. If you put all of your trust in that guy, he's going to fail you but Jesus is forever permanent, able to save forever. He lives to make intercession. He's holy. He's innocent. He's undefiled. Separated from sinners, completely undefiled. Those other guys dealt with sinners and by dealing with sinners, you actually were defiled. No priestly system. They had lots of ways not to do it but Jesus, who does not need daily like those high priests, the former priest, to offer up sacrifices for himself. First, for his own sins and then for the sins of the people because this he did once for all when he offered up himself. So, that's pretty amazing. The list goes on. He does not need to offer up sacrifices. Why? Because he does not have any sin. And that's for himself. But he did that perfectly once for all for anyone who would believe by dying on that cross himself. He gave his blood. He didn't just give somebody else's sheep or somebody else's bull or someone else's goat. He gave his own life to actually save and sanctify sinners. He's able to say forever the former priest are not able. He lives to make intercession. They don't. They don't. They do it for a time but it's the priestly service. It's the job. He's holy whereas they were unholy. Like I said, you got plenty of examples. There were some that look to God but even the good ones that we know about like Isaiah when he was confronted by God and he saw the robe, saw the hem of his robe, and saw the whole the splendor of God in the temple and the year King Uzziah died, I saw God and he confessed his sin. He was unholy and knew it. Woe is me, I am undone, right? I'm going to knock that thing over eventually. Jesus was holy, they're unholy. Jesus is innocent. They were all without exception, guilty. Jesus was undefiled. They were defiled. From time to time and how many how many times does it take? James says that if you air in one facet of the law, if you break one of the laws, you've broken the whole thing and it's irreparably broken. Outside of Christ, on your own, with another human being's help, you can't do it. He did not need to offer up sacrifices and plainly they do need to offer sacrifices for all of their own issues. And he offered himself and their own blood was not worthy. Paul recognized that. Paul said, if it were possible for me, I would give my own life so that y'all would come. I'd give my own if it were possible but he knew it was not possible. Jesus is the only way. This is the last verse we're going through today. For the law appoints men as high priests who are weak. Why? Because there aren't any other kind. That's it. The law appoints men as high priests who are weak but the word of the oath back to Psalm one hundred ten four, you are priest forever. Which came after the law, making an actual logical, chronological argument. So, the law about 1,400 BC comes along and then this oath that God makes is a thousand BC through David. But by the word of the oath which came after the law, it appoints a son who's made perfect forever. So, Jesus's perfection is not going to fade. It's not going to change. We have an incorruptible hope in heaven for sure because of what he did not because of what we do. That's a better covenant. That's a better covenant. Chapter eight will go into the better covenant even more but just seeing those two lists compared to one another. I I think that we understand what it's like to bump our heads. Do you know what it's like to bump your head? Do you wish somebody had a doorbell camera to catch it? That thing's motion activated for crying out loud. I was helping get the dog and I do kadunk. I think that we're surprised by our own sin but when that happens and we bump our head and it hurts. We've got somebody to go to to say, forgive me and he does. Direct me and he does. I hope that he'll keep me from bouncing into a pole again. He is made perfect forever. I think if we look at these two lists again, the former priest do not stand up to Jesus, not a single one of em. Even as great as Isaiah was and the writer of Hebrews quotes Isaiah all the time. Even as great as King David was. And he quotes him all the time. Nobody stands up to Jesus. So, these guys are weak because there's not any other kind and this individual, oh, not that guy. Thanks, buddy. I did that, didn't I? Sorry. This guy, this guy is weak. I'm weak. We don't have to prove it but Jesus is perfect and he is offering that spotless record to anyone who would believe. I'm going go back. Would you go back to the benediction verse for the day? It's verse 25. I want you to contemplate this this week. The law appoints men as high priest for a week but the word that's 28, 25. That works. Therefore, he is able. He is able. God, Jesus is able Once and forever to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. Now, in their day, that they were sinful and needed a savior seems to be obvious because of all of the ritual and all of everything that was pointed to it and the fact that people kept on doing it. In our day, it's hard to get people lost before you can get them found. They just don't realize that they're lost. So, we don't see our sin as really being a problem. Everybody sins. So, what's the problem? It's a problem. Sin is what separates us from God. That's what stands in between us and God and having a relationship and actually being more righteous, not being right. We're obsessed with being right but being righteous is in humility coming to God and accepting the way that he's made and Jesus is that way. Would y'all stand and we'll sing one more song. If you would like to come forward, you're welcome. If you would like to come in this week and talk, you're welcome. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Amen and there it is. Therefore, he, Jesus, is able to save once and forever to save those who come to God through him. That's it forever. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. In Jesus name, lord, would you convince us of that truth where the devil is beating us up and where our adversary is reminding us of our past. Lord, would you let us learn the lesson from what we've done? And go forward with the hope that Jesus has completely absolved. That he is completely propitiated. That he's completely paid the price for that sin and we can move forward in righteousness and holiness day by day, walking after you and your will. Would you allow it to be so? Amen.
