Don't Neglect So Great a Salvation First B Jackson 2019-07-14 Automatically transcribed. Where this and the recording disagree, the recording is the record. ---- Good morning, everyone. How are you? Good to see you this morning. What do say we stand up? We'll, we'll give praise and thanks to God. Psalm thirty four eight, taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him. Let's sing it. I sought I sought the Lord and he answered me and delivered me from every field. Those who look on me are ready. They'll never be ashamed. They'll never be ashamed. And Alright. Let's sing. Alright. Let's sing. Let us bless the Lord. Let us bless the Lord everyday night, Hey, man. Y'all can have a seat. Have a few announcements for you this morning. What are they? Monday nights at first week. What's happening? We're on. We're still in songs and songs and it's been very encouraging and I do wanna encourage you to to just know that you're welcome. Meal music message tomorrow at six, songs and songs. Down the hall in the fellowship hall tomorrow night. Immigrant Hope is still collecting shoes for the world, I think. 25,000 pairs of shoes is the goal, so it's a lot of shoes, but that's what we're collecting for them. If you just bring them into the office, we'll pass them along, get them where they need to be. There is a campout coming up. First b campout. We did one last year around this time, and August 22 to the twenty fifth is when we're gonna be up at Coulter Bay Group Site Number 6. Come for a little bit or for the whole time. If you're gonna spend the night, it's $12 a night. That's not a big deal. Let us know if you wanna stay and you feel like you can't afford $12 a night, we'll help you out. Alright? It's a camp out for everybody. Coulter Bay, Group Site Number 6. It's a big space, big enough for a 100, so let's all go. Alright? It'll be fun. Group trip, the youth group is going to Lagoon, August 9 and the tenth is a good time to do that too. Anything else about that, Mike? Hearing none, we go ahead. Okay. Fantastic. Thank you. And camping out right there at the Lagoon Campground or somewhere nearby? Fantastic. Good. If you missed a message, you can find them on the Internet. That's probably not a surprise for you. Connect hour is happening between services. There's coffee and usually there are sweets and some nice treats down at the other end of the hall. Hang out with people and get to know one another. We don't do a whole lot of that during the time where I'm up here talking or y'all are out there singing. So if you would connect with one another afterwards or between services, that'd be a really good thing. And I've got an announcement that I wanna make, but I'm gonna make it during the sermon time about the trip to Gillette. I've been asking for several weeks who wants to go with us, who will go with us, but I wanna I've got the slides in my sermon presentation, so I'll get to that in a minute. Anything else that I'm forgetting? We are doing church at the fair whenever the fair is. It's either two weeks from now or three weeks from now. It's two weeks from now, I think. So it's two weeks. The twenty eighth. Okay. So the twenty eighth, we're gonna be doing church at the fair. They ask us if we would bring the band and bring Can I ask you that too? So that evening, we're gonna do an all worship night here at First B too where we'll eat downstairs in the fellowship hall at six and then worship from here from seven to eight. Multiple congregations. Multiple congregations. Everybody's invited. Fantastic. And so that's 20 give you a heads up. We'll do a more official announcement next week. Good. Thank you very much. And if that's if I don't hear any objections, we're gonna stand and greet one another. Alright? And then we'll bring you back together with a song. Alright. Let's sing the wondrous love of Jesus. And when from death I'm free, I'll sing on. And when from death I'm free, I'll Can we pray together? God, good morning. Good morning. And we are grateful to come before you, our savior, our master, our friend, our God, our lord, our king. I can't help but think as we're singing that song, this divine rescue mission that you've come on to save us, to walk with us, to talk with us, to live, among us, to to be with us. That really truly is an ultimate display of love and affection toward your creation. And we're grateful, and I thank you, God, that you laid down your life for ours. You took our place. That's the message of the gospel. And here we are singing because we're grateful. And so, Lord, would you tune our hearts to sing your praises this morning? May we come before you with a heart of gratitude and thankfulness because you're here to meet with us. You're present. You truly are, but may we take that step toward you. In Jesus' name. Amen. From Hebrews, it says, therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. God, we do want to proclaim our allegiance to you that you are God. Here we are on earth, but you're in heaven. You're on your throne. You are great and mighty and powerful, and you are with us. God, I can't escape from that in your presence with us. And so, Lord, I pray that we would experience you in a very real way this morning through worship, through song, through your word too. This is your living and active word to us this morning. Would you give us ears to hear and a heart that would retain? In Jesus' Amen. Y'all can have a seat as the frontline team comes forward. God, we thank you this morning for bringing us all together. I I love you, lord. Stand amazed. By Jesus the Nazarene. Thank you, Lord, that you've done what you've done so that we may continue to do what you want done. In Jesus' name, Lord, we pray that we would go forward, that we would share your good word, your good gospel, that we we would carry the message. We'd pay attention to what you are saying to us. That we take it to heart, that it would transform us, sanctify us, lord, by your truth, your word is truth. And lord that transformed people would go forward and transform lives. We know that broken people break people and hurt people hurt people. I pray lord that transformed individuals beloved of God will transform other individuals by sharing the love of God. In Jesus name, would you, lord, do your will and your way through all that we give this morning. Amen. Alright. Amen. There is children's church today and it is outside So, there they go. I've been having a hard time staying up on this stage. I've tumbled a couple of times last week the second service and clear some stuff out of the way. Well, we are going to talk we're going to bring the message. I'm bringing the message from Hebrews one four through 14 is the text but before I do that, I want to share a little bit about the mission trip. So, we had a team that y'all sent out and 22 of us went to Gillette. It's a long way to Gillette. Six hours and forty seven minutes driving to get there. And Gillette has hit hard times recently. If you think about Gillette, there was an article in the paper where 500 something people lost their job, maybe more than that. And it's going to affect the whole community. And on the twenty eighth of this month, Scott Eichen who used to be the pastor here, one of the pastors here is starting up with his family. It's just that family going and they are boldly stepping out and planning a church. They already have a building. So this was the building and that's what it looked like on Wednesday morning when we got there. And then immediately, there are weeds that were covering. They're growing up under the 30 something foot long weeds growing vines growing up under the lap board. And so they started pulling that up and we made a list of priorities and they started pulling up weeds and vines. There are a few of the folks that went. There's a decorative kind of panel added in the back. I'm actually wrote all this down. Y'all watch that while I look it up. So that's exterior painting obviously but from the Exodus at 06:45 Wednesday morning, remove the weeds and invasive vines from the church ground, killed all the weeds in the parking lot, sanded the balusters and top rails and floorboards of all old flaky stain on both decks and stairs, removed and replaced the sanctuary lighting, patched a lot of holes and cracks in the sheetrock walls and ceiling, prepped for paint, prioritized the list, built and painted new stage complete with air conditioning ducts, installed decorative panel wall treatment for stage area and back wall wainscoting, shored up foundations for the post, realigned and solidified the handrails and floorboards for the ADA access ramp and deck in the front, replaced the deck, handrails, and leveled out the stairs so that they would not be dangerous. In the back, cleaned out, reorganized the storage shed, made multiple DUP runs with construction debris and castoffs, textured the ceiling, replaced broken shingles, added interior lighting, wiring to the storage shed shop, repainted the entire exterior including caulking and painting all trim for both the main church and the storage shed out back. I'm tired of talking about it. Both decks and access ramps repainted all except for two rooms in the interior that they were going to do murals and Bible verses on the walls. We did all of the interior sanctuary, ceiling walls, bathrooms, repaint, repaired all the old window screens, replaced them, thoroughly, washed windows, mounted two television screens for praise and worship lyrics and PowerPoints, landscaped the front beds including adding rocks and pulling old fence rails. There was a tree that was 20 something feet tall that had the fence rails that were put up to hold it straight when it was this tall and they just, you know, grows up around it. You don't think about it but it's stuff like that. Following up on it. It was pretty amazing. You get the point. Where are we? Rebuilt and painted the church sign, removed and replaced overhead exterior lighting and photo cells for front and rear entrances, made lunch and supper for the whole 30 something person crew Thursday and Friday, restri the parking lot, vacuumed our way out the door, loaded up tools, and came home. It was an amazing, amazing trip. So, there's the church. Yeah, it's pretty cool. Move the bus. It's one of those kind of extreme makeovers and that was the team that did it. So, if you see anybody in this and you want to connect during the connect hour and just see how it went for him. Spiritually speaking, I love that stuff. I just love to see people come together willing and able and just get it done and it's amazing how the body of Christ finds, you know, people that know what they're doing in a certain area and people are willing to help pull alongside. There are a lot of spiritual applications. So, next time we send one, if you want to go, come on. Alright? That's it. Hebrews one four through 14. We started last week with what I presented as the exordium. The exordium is the beginning. It was the beginning or introduction of a treatise. I think it's a treatise. It does end like a letter. I know that but it's kind of above time and place. We do know that who the author of Hebrews is writing to is somebody who has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Old Testament and even not just the Old Testament but the study and the current theology of the day about the Old Testament and so this person that is presenting the author of Hebrews is going to do so. Now, when we got to verse number four, he entered the author introduced angels into the mix. So, just listen to this. New American Standard Version of the Bible. This is the Exortium. We covered it all last week in detail. If you want to go back, you can find that message on the church website or Facebook. God, after he spoke long ago to the fathers and the prophets and in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in his son. Amen. Authoritative. Final. Whom he appointed heir of all things through whom also he made the world and he, Jesus, is the radiance of his God's glory and the exact representation of his God's nature and he upholds all things by the word of his power. Amen. And when he had made purification of sins, Jesus made purification of sins and when he had made purification of sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Megalusune, majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels. As he has inherited a more excellent name than they and verse four starts this concept of angels and to y'all, you might just be thinking, why do they bring angels into it? That's kind of a peripheral. We, I don't think about angels all that much. I don't. Some people do. These people did and they were thinking about angels and there was a theology of how angels helped and that how they did what they did and what they had delivered. Last week, I pointed to a rhetorical feature that points to the middle of this little passage right here, that green, he is the radiance of his glory and the exact representation of his nature and upholds all things by the word of his power. Those are three statements in that middle clause there about Jesus that are just amazing. If you dwell on those, you know, you don't feel the sun's light without the radiance of the sun, right? So, the radiance of God is Jesus and the exact representation. You cannot get a better image of God than Jesus. He is it and he upholds all things by the word of his power. It's continuous. The word there, his enabling power. It is what allows us to draw breath. It's what allows photosynthesis. It's what allows the Earth to spin on its axis. It's what allows everything that is allowed. We did that to point out that middle section to find the central truth for this very first portion is the central truth of the book of Hebrews that Jesus is better than everything else. Don't turn away from him. Don't turn away from him. These people had seen and tasted and they were tempted because of persecution to fall away. Are you with me? Okay, here we go. This is how we start. The Exortium starts and then chapters one and two are going to be about angels and Torah and if you read it, it never says Torah anywhere else in this but there was in this time, this theology for to which of the angels, he's going to go into a barrage of scriptural backing for his point and it's it's boom, boom, boom, boom, boom and I'm going to hit him just like that. I'm not proof texting. The author of Hebrews is pointing to Old Testament scriptures that confirm what he's saying. For to which of the angels? We don't, I don't think about angels very much. There are people who do but I I don't dwell on them very much. This verse and there are lots of verses in the Targums, lots of verse in rabbinic literature, lots of places where they point to the fact that angels are very present and useful to God. So, in Deuteronomy thirty three two, it says, and the Lord came from Sinai and he dawned on them from Sayir. He shown forth from Mount Paran and he came from the midst of 10,000 holy ones. So, the angels were surrounding this one who was bringing the law to God's people. At his right hand, there was flashing lightning for them and they had taken that 10,000 holy ones. It's it's angels. Pretty much everybody agrees it's angels. They're people who carry a message and in Greek, the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Bible at this time, it says, instead of holy ones, it says, angels, flatly. And so, and if you think, well, how did how that seems pretty remote? Seems kind of weird even that they would take that and run with it. Have you ever heard anybody take an obscure verse and run with it? Happens all the time and we get really convinced of our own opinion and theology is the plumb line. I mean, history is the plumb line of theology. You can see thing, the plumb line will swing but it'll eventually come back, right? It swings but it eventually comes back and history is a plumb line of theology and if you start to overemphasize angels, something's gotta bring that back and that's what the author of Hebrews is seeking to do for these people and actually Paul does this in a couple of different places too. Galatians, he says, well, why the law then? It was added because of transgressions. Having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made and we know now looking on the backside of the cross. We we understand now what he's talking about there but it it mentions angels. Paul's using that in his argument because people were thinking that in that day and Stephen, while he's being stoned, they're standing there. Paul's holding the coats before he, Saul's holding the coats, I guess, before he is converted and they have stones in their hands and Stephen makes this plea down on his knees and his face shining. You men who are stiff necked, non circumcised in heart, and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit. You're doing just what your fathers did. Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the righteous one. Stephen is preaching the gospel right as he's going out. Whose betrayers and murderers you have now become. You, who received the law as ordained by angels and yet you did not keep it. Is it possible to keep the law? Takes takes humility to say that. Steven was pointing that out to him and in their theology, it's angels, angels, angels, angels, angels. And they're crying out trying to figure out what God had meant because they see that God had stopped speaking four hundred years before. The intertestamental silence of God and they're fighting over what every verse of the Old Testament meant and they had developed this theology of angels that had gotten out of hand apparently. And Hebrews author says this, for which to which one of the angels did he, God ever say, you are my son today. I have begotten you. Now, that's a quote from a Psalm that we covered a couple weeks ago. Psalm two seven, I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord. God almighty. He said to me, you are my son today. I have begotten you. It's a straight quote from Psalm two seven. Now, for us, not being as familiar with the hymn book of the Hebrews as they were, we might just see that and go, wow, that's kind of cool. It's the same thing. Yeah, but they know the rest of that song and it starts playing in their head and they go, this is a this is a Messiah. This is the anointed one. This is the one we've been waiting for. Angels are awesome. But it's not the way we thought about it. Step back from it and see and they're playing the words in their head and then and again, somewhere else. I will be a father to him and he shall be a son to me. Now, that's from second Samuel seven. I will be a father to him. He will be a son to me. Now, those him and he are not capitalized right there because the Old Testament usage was not necessarily pointing towards Messiah. He was appropriating the material to point towards Jesus. And when he again brings the firstborn into the world, he says, and let all the angels of God worship him. Oh, these angels that they are have begun to worship and pay a lot of attention to worship who? The angels of God worship him, Messiah, Jesus, the Christ. Psalm 97 says, let all those be ashamed who serve graven images who boast themselves of idols. Worship him all you small G gods. Small G gods are anything that is not God, right? Celestial bodies that's translated in some places. Usually, small G gods. Angels are not God. Capital G, almighty God Worship him all you other spiritual beings and of the angels, he says, this is the author of Hebrews says, which of the angels did he say this? He said this about Jesus and now he says, what about angels? And of the angels, he says, he makes his angels winds and his ministers a flame of fire. He does, he moves things how he wants to move by sending out the angels or the ministers. From Psalm one zero four four, he makes the winds his messengers, flaming fire his ministers. He does as he wants to do but he uses other agents to get that done. Y'all look really tired. Are you hot or tired? What is which is it? So, are you sore as I am? I did a lot of work that I haven't done in a long time this past four days. Psalm one zero four four, he makes the winds, his messengers, the flaming fire, his ministers. Everything is backed up with scripture. In most of the books, I'm preaching what's there. In this book, this author is preaching what they already trusted in. You get that? But of the son, he says, so this is about Jesus. Of the son, he says, your throne, oh God, is forever and ever and the righteous scepter is the scepter of his kingdom. Your throne, oh God, is forever and ever. A scepter of uprightness, the righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom. Will not, my God, do what is right? You have loved righteousness and you have hated lawlessness. Therefore, God, your God has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions. Oh, Jesus came in utter humility, emptied himself of his desert, his deserved rights. He emptied himself and he came and was obedient. He loved righteousness and hated lawlessness so he came and lived a perfect life. Completely submitted to the spirit and therefore, God, your God has anointed you with the oil of gladness above all of your companions. Psalm forty five seven, you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore, God, your God has anointed you with all the oil of joy above your fellows. Remember Isaiah 61, the spirit of God is upon me, suffering servant passage. The spirit of God, the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me. Messiah, anointed one, the Christ, Greek translation, the anointed one. The spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted. Who are the afflicted? We all are the afflicted. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted and to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to prisoners and to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord. Isaiah 61 goes on from there and says, and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, to grant those who mourn in Zion, giving them a garland instead of ashes and the oil of gladness or joy instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting, so they will be called oaks of righteous The planting of the Lord so that he may be glorified That's a suffering servant passage. The way that they took that at that time was that that was the nation family of Israel That they were suffering servant, that it was a collective and not an individual. But the plumb line of theology showed that that was not the case. It was pointing towards the anointed one person God, Jesus. And Jesus's first recorded sermon in Nazareth, he, I'll just read it. From Luke four and the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him, Jesus in Nazareth, hometown boy, right? Hands over. This is after he's been baptized and the spirit of God has descended like a dove. This is my son in whom I'm well pleased. This is after his forty days in the wilderness but this is the first recorded sermon we have. It's not long but it's very powerful. In the book of the prophet of Isaiah was handed to him and he opened the book and he found the place where it was written. The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he anointed me, capital M. That's Jesus speaking. To preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me, capital M, that's Jesus. To proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed. Who are the oppressed? All of us. By our sin and our slavery too. Our sin. To set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord and he closed the book. He doesn't talk about the day of judgment of our God. He doesn't talk about the day of vengeance of our God. He stopped. Jesus stopped halfway through the passage. That's important. He's proclaiming the favorable year of the Lord, the favorable time of God, the Kairos moment if you want to, the opportune time has begun. To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord and he closed the book. He gave it back to the tenant and he sat down. I love that imagery. And all of the eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him and he said, today, the scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing and they wanted to throw him off the ridge. He got out. He got away. Spoiler alert, sorry. You haven't read Luke four. He's proclaiming the favorable year of the Lord and I think that's significant that he doesn't talk about the vengeance of our God because he opened up an age of grace and he opened up the new covenant in his blood. That's what the author of Hebrews is pointing towards. He hasn't gotten there yet but he's pointing towards that proclaim the favorable year of the Lord. Of the son, he says, you have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. Therefore, God your God has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions and you, lord, in the beginning, laid the foundation of the earth. And the heavens are the works of your hands. Psalm 102. Of old, you founded the earth and the heavens are the work of your hands. But they will perish but you will remain. They will all become old like a garment. Psalm 102 goes on. Even they will perish but you will endure and all of them will wear out like a garment, like clothing, you will change them and they will be changed. Isaiah 51, lift up your eyes to the sky, then look to the earth beneath, for the sky will vanish like smoke and the earth will wear out like a garment, and its inhabitants will die in like manner but my salvation will be forever. It's an eternal salvation. And my righteousness will not wane. Like a mantle, you will roll them up and like a garment, they will also be changed but you are the same and your years will not come to an end. There's a verse toward the in the Hebrews that comes back to that where it says, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. You will not change. Your years will not come to an end. You are forever and eternal. Psalm one zero two twenty six twenty seven one more time. Even they will perish but you will endure and all of them will wear out like a garment, like clothing, you will change them, and they will be changed but you, you are the same. Your years will not come to an end. You are the same. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, forever. And He's building towards that. We haven't gotten there yet. It's in the last chapter but this whole book actually is another chiasm, chastic construction where it's pointing towards the middle, front, and end are very similar and it's pointing towards what's in between them. But to which of the angels has he ever said, sit at my right hand. Where is Jesus according to the exordium? He's at the right hand of the majesty on high. Later on, it'll say interceding for us To which of the angels has he ever said, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet And the Lord says to my lord, amen This is written a thousand years before, right? And the Lord says to my lord, God says to Jesus, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. Verse 14 is kind of closing off this chapter and I said I was going four to 14. I'm actually going to extend to two three because I think you see why we've written what we've written. If not, I'd just be proof texting the whole sermon. The chapter numbers and locators are just to help us. They're not divinely inspired. So, I think it goes up to at least two, three to carry on the thought. Hebrews 114 says, are they and that's talking about angels. Are the angels not all just minister ministering spirits that are sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation. That's exactly what an angel is. Angolas, the word in Greek means messenger. It can be used of a post office employee, okay? It is someone who carries a message. It can be used of a a preacher, a proclaimer. If I carry a message and I deliver it, then I am an Angolas. I am a messenger. I'm not saying that I'm a divine angel but I I do carry a message. Are they not all these celestial bodies, these angels, are they not all just ministering spirits that are sent out to render service and this is where our plumb line comes back down and says, they are good. But you gotta keep em in proper perspective. Don't pay too much attention to them because God is the one who wills and they are seeking to carry out the will of God and carry the message forward. If you have heard the gospel, you've heard it through a messenger whether it be his word, through the radio, through a friend, through direct revelation from a dream to go see, go read, go do. God can do that and he does that this way. Are they not all ministering spirits? Send out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation. Those who will accept it receive the message but the message is constantly going forth. Creation is constantly putting it forth. There's no language where it can't be understood. God says and we are without excuse for not. Bowing the knee. Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation and that comes from here. Bless the Lord. You his angels mighty in strength. You who perform his word. You are obeying the voice of his word. You do what God says. Bless the Lord, all of you, heavenly hosts. You who serve him, doing his will. Bless the Lord all you works of his. They're created beings, the angels. They do God's will. When we say, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. They don't argue. They don't say no. Bless the Lord are you as host. You who serve him doing his will. Bless the Lord all you works of his created beings and all places of his dominion. God is the one who's all powerful. Bless the Lord. Oh my soul. Amen. Now, chapter two starts and says, for this reason, application point. For this reason, we must pay closer attention to what we have heard. Don't focus on the messenger. You've heard the hour saying, don't shoot the messenger. Like, I'm just delivering a message. It's not my message. Don't shoot the messenger. This is the other way. Don't worship the messenger either just because he's bringing good news. Yeah, he's got beautiful feet. But you don't worship that guy. The message is what it's about and it says, for this reason, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard. So, the rationale is for this reason, all of that that I've said before now, all this about angels is now that you understand that. This is the point. The rationale is this and the exhortation is we must pay closer attention to what we have heard and the why is so that we do not drift away from it. You know, if you just go into a time where you're not paying attention, you're not listening, you're not praying, you're not in contact with the word, you're not in contact with other believers, you're not encouraging one another, building each other up. You can't just stay right where you were. You start to fall back. Have you noticed that? If we're all swimming upstream and we say that a lot, I feel like as a Christian in Jackson, I'm swimming upstream. Well, as a Christian in the world, you're swimming upstream. That's the way that it is but if you stop paddling, you go downstream. There's no neutral. Piper, John Piper said, in the Christian gearbox, there is no neutral. It is either you're going forward or you're going backwards and I think that's true and I think that this is what he's pointing to or the author is pointing to right here. For this reason, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard. This is a letter to people who have begun the walk. Of the way with Jesus. They've started out but they're tempted to turn back so that we do not drift away from it. So, that's Hebrews two one two two says this, for if the word spoken through the angels, I'll give you that. It was it was brought through a messenger, yes. For if the word that was spoken through angels proved to be unalterable, what did Jesus say about the law? Not one jot nor tittle will pass away but the word of the Lord will stand forever. They agreed with that. It wasn't going to change but the word spoken through the angels proved unalterable and every transgression and disobedience reserve received a just penalty and what was that penalty? The wages of sin is death. If the word spoken through the angels proved unalterable, they would have agreed with that and every transgression and disobedience received the just penalty, absolutely that is the case. That's and then we get the warning. The first of our warnings in Hebrews and we get a lot of em throughout the book of Hebrews because he is this author is trying and attempting to keep the people from turning back and turning away, falling away. So, the warning is this, if the word spoken through the angels proved unalterable, it did and every transgression and disobedience receives a just penalty, it does. Then, how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? Jesus is the way. Jesus is the truth. Jesus is the light. All of your deeds stacked up against all of your sins. There's no way that's ever going to balance out. James says, if we air in even one point of the whole law, We've broken the whole of the law and we deserve the righteous penalty. All of us will be either justly condemned or mercifully forgiven. The author of Hebrews is saying, do not neglect so great a salvation as God has offered in his final and authoritative word through the Christ Jesus, son of God. Amen. Amen. I can invite the band back up. I think. There's a warning. Oh, this is a takeaway. Here it is. For this reason we must pay closer attention to what we have heard from these ministering spirits who carry the message of God Amen. If you feel like something has happened to me right now that I don't quite understand but this is making more sense than it ever has and you feel like the spirit of God is moving in you to say, I gotta do something about this. Don't neglect a great salvation that is pricking at your heart and prompting you to move forward. I'll be glad to talk to you. There are tons of people in this room who'd be glad to talk to you about it, and I would love for you to taste and see that the Lord is good. I'll be here right here. I'll stop playing the bass and come forward. I'll turn off my microphone. But if you wanna talk this week, I'll be here for that too. In Jesus' name, would you stand up and we're gonna sing, there's power in the blood. There is but one. Would you be free from the burden of sin? There's power in the blood. There's power in Christ's sacrifice that makes us right with God through faith. Power in the blood. Power in the blood. Would you worry for victory when there's wonderful power Amen. And for Benediction Day, we've got a great Trinitarian formula here for you. It takes all of these. The Holy Spirit of God is at work. Father God, wills, Jesus carries it out and here it is. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. That's my prayer. Amen.
