Having the Attitude of Christ First B Jackson 2022-09-13 Automatically transcribed. Where this and the recording disagree, the recording is the record. ---- Alright. I think we're on, everybody. Hey. Welcome to another Monday night. It is very, very good to see you. I've been looking forward to this all day, and I'm very, very happy to see you. And can we give Melissa a big, big hand? Thank you. Thank you, Melissa. She worked very, very hard all day in the kitchen and all out of love. And thank you. Thank you for your heart. I appreciate it. And there's also gonna be some leftovers. And so would you please, before you leave tonight, grab a leftover box? There's they're gonna be out there. Okay? Book of Philippians right now, Monday nights, we'll get to it. Before we get there, what do you say we worship in song again? Psalm 34, taste and it's taste and see. We're gonna sing it, but here's what it says. Glorify the Lord with me. Let's exalt his name together. How are we doing? You alright on a Monday? We're up to Philippians two tonight verses one through 11. That's where we're at. Heading in my Bible is having the attitude of Christ. And I and I do wanna say this. Keep in mind, any verse, any little word of encouragement, possibly a bit of testimony, you know, as these verses bring it to mind for the conversation time afterwards. But what I love about these verses tonight are the compelling reasons why. Why have the attitude of of Christ? Why for this church in Philippi? Why for why for the church at First Bee? Why for the church around the world? Why would we strive toward this? And what did Jesus what did Jesus do to help us spur this on toward this attitude? It'll all make sense as we read it. But my hope, especially uh-oh. Let's see if I can get it. Nope. I can't. My hope, especially, is when we see a list. Whenever whenever we see a list in scripture, like this one right here. Thank you. Thanks very much. So here's a list tonight. Agree wholeheartedly. Love one another. Work together with one. Mind and purpose. Be humble thinking of others as better yourself, take an interest of others. There's a list. But all of these things would come as a response from this, encouragement from belonging to Christ, the comfort we have in his love, the fellowship together in his spirit, and hearts that are tender and compassionate. So in other words and I know I'm oversimplifying this. I I know I'm oversimplifying this. But I But if we want this right here, to agree wholeheartedly with each other, to love one another, to work together with one mind and purpose, to be humble, thinking of others as better than ourselves, to take an interest in others, If we want that, there's got to be there's one more slide, Blake. I don't know. This isn't working right now. Has to be this right here, encouragement from belonging to Jesus, So I see these two as in in inseparable. They work together hand in hand. And, again, it'll all make sense as we read. I'm just kinda warming us up to it. And so let's go ahead and read it. It's Philippians two one through 11, and here's what it'll say. Blake will track track here with I read. Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the spirit. Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus That though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to or grasp. Instead, he humbled himself in obedience to God, and he died a criminal's death on a cross. Therefore, verse nine, God elevated him to the place of highest honor, and he gave them the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven and earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare or confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the father. So I'm gonna stop there for right now. May I pray first? And, again, would you take Well, the last comment to take an interest in others, and I can take an interest in others. It's pretty easy. But I was in a situation last week that I didn't espouse the lifestyle of two people that I met. And at first, I felt myself resisting. But then all of a sudden, this overwhelming love had to come from God. It didn't come from me. To love these people just flooded me, and I was able to to to not only take an interest, but to share truly share God's love and companionship with him. And it sort of blew me away because it was it was I can be interested. I can say hi. You know? But this was something different. It was people that I didn't I didn't share similar I it was just God putting me to the test, but he helped me overcome it. And it was it blew me away at the end of the day because I was able to love them as I could love you or Debbie or, you know, somebody that is of the same mind in Christ. That's easy to love. So, anyway I think And I've got a little benediction here if we go up just a little bit here in Philippians, just before this, when he says, above all, must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a matter And don't forget to take a little, some leftovers home with you. Please grab a box if you would.
