Speaker 3Hi, everyone. Look at it's already past nine. What do you say we kick this thing off right and we worship together? I think of this Psalm, and it just sing praises to the Lord, sing praises, sing praises to the Lord, sing praises. I think there was something that he wanted to communicate to us.
0:18
So what do you say we stand up, we'll sing praises to our God.
0:28
Speaker 2Alright. Here in this worn weir land, here in this sworn weiry land, where many a dream has died. Like a tree planted by the water, never will run dry. Alright. Living water flowing through, living water flowing through.
0:52
God breathers from more of you. Fill our hearts and flood our souls with one desire to know you and to make you known. Just to know you and you make you known. We lived your name all night. Shine light, the sun made darkness rung and high.
1:20
We were made. We know we were made for so much more than your denary light. It's time for us to mourn to just survive. We were made. We were made

We have tile floor that's going in and we're not walking on the tile floor.
3:21
Is that still true? I think it is. It says do not enter. It doesn't even say please do not enter. So I think we mean it.

And I think if there are any other announcements, they should be in your bulletins. Would you stand up and greet one another and we will bring you back together with another peppy peppy song.
6:24
Speaker 2Far away. I sent you and my heart cries holy. Hallelujah, father storm. Peace surpasses understanding. Kiss my soul, and I'll sing my hope is in you alone.
7:05
In I wait for you, and my soul finds rest, and my selfishness show me grace. I worship you, and my heart cries glory and in you father oh year. Let's sing of our hope in him. My hope is in you lord My soul and I'll sing my hope is in you alone. And I'll wait on you.
7:55
I'll wait on you. Refuge. My hope is in you. My hope is in you, Lord, all the day long. I won't be shaken by drowned or storm.
8:33
A piece of pastors understand and guess my song and I'll sing. My hope is in you know. My peace in you know. At the sound of your great name sling. Jesus is worthy.
10:11
Jesus worthy is the lamb that was of your great name. The hungry souls receive praise at the sound Let's sing redeemer my healer. Redeemer my healer, Lord, almighty. My savior defender you are my king. Redeemer, my healer, Lord, almighty.
12:11
Cedar defender you are my case.
12:20
Speaker 3Jesus is worthy. Let's sing.
12:23
Speaker 2Jesus, worthy is the lamb that was laid for us. Son of God and man, you are high and lifted up. Let all the world might Your great name.
13:18
Speaker 3God, that is why we're here today to praise your great name for you are indeed worthy to be praised. And I pray that you would fill up and satisfy each person here, Holy Spirit, that you would be moving in power, but that we would be ready to receive your spirit and hear from you and hear from your word. From Hebrews, you say, therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. And, God, we do want to proclaim our allegiance to you, our loyalty, to you as our our one true God. In Jesus' name, amen.
14:09
Speaker 2Before the throne of God, I but I have a strong and perfect, great high priest whose name is the whoever lives and pleads for My name is great and on his end. My name is written on his heart. I know that while in heaven he stands. Behold him there, the risen lamb. My perfect spot
17:36
Speaker 3Amen. Would you be seated? And I'm gonna invite Kale up too. This will be Kale's last time on the piano. Can we just thank her for being one of our musicians all these Thank you, Kale.
17:48
We're gonna miss you so much. And we're also here gonna participate in the worship through giving, but I would I would love to to pray and give thanks right now. God, just as we sang, praise the one living son of of God, and that is why we're here. That is why we're worshiping you is because you are alive and you have risen. And, you're alive in us, and I I thank you God.
18:11
And music is just an expression of that, are extending our our agreement that that is true, that you are alive and well. And I thank you God that you have been so generous to us and you have and I pray that your generous generosity would spark generosity in us so that the world can know who you are. And I pray that you would use this right here, offering, not just what we put in the offering plates, but what we do outside of these walls, to make much of you, to make you known. And, I pray that you would use everything that we have, to glorify you and make you known. In Jesus' name, we pray.
18:49
Amen.
23:03
Speaker 1And I know he watches me. Thank you, Kale. I get to preach now. Thanks. I've been crying through that little episode there.
23:13
Ephesians two eleven through 22 is what I plan to do today. I think I've shortened my text if not my sermon. I've shortened today to just up to 16 but on your bulletins, in the back of your bulletins, you have 11 through 22. It's the rest of chapter two and we went through last week. Ephesians two one through 10 and I and I said somewhere near the beginning that if you get this, then you get the gospel.
23:36
You get it. That you don't deserve the mercy of God. It wouldn't be mercy if you did deserve it, right? And all of us fall short. And if you get this, two:one through 10, then you get it.
23:49
And then 11 through 22 continues the theme, but it's in a more specific place. It's a more specific focus on that. And it's, I think, individually in the first half of chapter two and more corporately in the second half, and we tend to clump. As people, we tend to clump together into little bits. Sometimes it's nationality.
24:11
Sometimes it is heritage. Sometimes it is your race, but we tend to clump as human beings. We tend to do that. So 11 through 22 starts to deal with that. Gonna deal with part of it today in 11 through 16.
24:24
That starts off like this. Therefore, remember that one, at one time, you Gentiles now I don't know how many of you have Jewish heritage that are in this room right now. Probably not many. If I had to guess, we are in the ninetieth percentile of Gentiles, all other, if I had to guess, probably more than that. So this is directed specifically at us, those of us who are Gentiles, but it was in in Ephesus also, mostly a Gentile audience that he was speaking to.
24:54
Therefore, remember that at one time, you Gentiles, but it was a mixed church. So it's going to get into both sides here, alright? Therefore, but the therefore, since it was there, I'm going to recap last week's sermon. If you're here last week, you get a double dose, alright? You just get to hear it again.
25:08
Ephesians two is primarily about two spheres. In sins, I had over here last week or in Christ, a reminder of our former desperate state without God. Do you remember what it was like Christian that's sitting here on Sunday morning going to the picnic, junkie for Jesus, and you love him and you know it and you identify with Christ. Do you remember what it was like to be lost? Do you remember what it was like in your former state, in sins?
25:33
Do you remember that? In sins, Paul is reminding them that they have come out of sins and it's but for the grace of God and literally, but he says, excuse me, in chapter, I mean, in in verse four, but in Christ, God has now brought us who believe into an entirely different state. So, that's Ephesians two and it's I'm going to read it so we get the flow before the therefore there. And you you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you once walked. Notice that that's in the past tense.
26:05
You were dead in the sins in which you once walked. You were at that time following the course of this world, the normal bent of the world is towards sin. Everyone starts off that way. It's by nature and by nurture. They continue in the course of this world following after the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience among whom we all once lived in the past tense.
26:32
In the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind and were by nature, children of wrath, like the rest of mine, mankind. We were no different than they, Paul says, and then he gets to but God. Amen. But God acted. He acted because being rich in mercy and because of the great love which with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses.
26:59
Now, he said that twice. He says it right there. He said it already in two one. Even when we were dead in our trespasses, Christ made us alive together with Christ. God made us alive together with Christ.
27:11
By grace, you have been saved. He pre loads verse eight By grace, you have been saved and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. So, those are the benefits that God has given The two spheres in in sins or in Christ. If we paid attention to that, we would get the gospel. We do not deserve it yet God offers it.
27:33
The message of the cross. It's foolishness for those who are perishing but for those who believe, it is the power of God unto salvation. It moves you through. Those are the two spheres. I said last week too, if we really got this, we would take our own sin more seriously.
27:50
If we look at it like this and we say, if we are in Christ, then we are not in sins and that is the way that it should be. Also, decried perfectionism. If you believe you have no sin, you lie to yourself. You're deluded but this is a very helpful thing. Either you are in sins or you're in in Christ and Paul is reminding them where they've come from and toward what they are moving.
28:16
I told you about the prevailing culture in verses one through three. They read that and say, well, people really aren't that bad. Who needs saving? People are people. Yeah.
28:24
People really aren't that bad. They also say that the raised up and seated with him in the heavenlies, it really can't be that good. So that in the coming ages, from that moment when you believe, from that moment when you pray, place your faith in Christ, in the coming ages, going forward from there, he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Those who believe and I told you it it hits me a little funny that there's a separation there toward us who believe. Universalism is the most tempting current, and it's been around forever.
29:05
Blasphemy, heresy. Not all will be saved. There are two. People will be in sins or they will be in Christ. In the coming ages the immeasurable riches are for those who are in Christ Jesus For by grace, you have been saved.
29:24
He says, because he's writing to Christians when he writes this book to Ephesians and to us for by grace you have been saved through faith and this, this whole idea is not your own idea and it's not your doing. It's not a result of work so that no one may boast. For we, those of us who believe, are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Actually, part of the theme of our Bible school this week is do good Seek peace Go after it from Psalm 34 Good works that we should walk in them. This is what we were made to do by God when he rebirth us, made us new, when we were born again, he made us unto good works.
30:11
He prepared them ahead of time. So, that whole section right there is what precipitates the therefore. This is what it's there for. Therefore, remember that at one time, you Gentiles, you Gentiles in the flesh called the uncircumcision by what is the circumcision what is called the circumcision which is made in the flesh by hands. That's the sign of the covenant.
30:32
You all know that. I had a guy in here a while back and he could come but his wife had to work and when he would get home from church, it was when we were in Galatians mainly and when he would get home from church and she get home from work, he'd say, what the preacher talk about? He said, circumcision. He does it every Sunday. It comes up a lot.
30:51
It comes up a lot to them and it might not come up a lot to us today but this was the this was the dividing factor. What did David yell out when, you know, Goliath is making fun of this? David sees that, gets angry, has his pride swell, and says, who is this uncircumcised Philistine? That's doing this. He's on, he's against God and there's no doubt.
31:16
Anyway, he's saying, remember that you, the uncircumcision, Gentiles, those who are outside of Israel, remember that you were at that time separated from Christ. Now, I've been talking about union with Christ and being in Christ and I've been talking to a room of Gentile Christians and so when you say separated from Christ, you might think, oh, just lost No, no, no, no. It's not just that. It's separated from the whole idea that there might be a Messiah that there might be an anointed one. There's completely separated.
31:50
It's not just about union with Christ. It's knowing that there was a Christ. Anything. They're completely separated from the even possibility of that and alienated from the commonwealth of Israel. God made promises to Israel that will continue into the future.
32:05
They were his chosen people. Was it, were they his chosen people because of what they had done? No. But God's covenant that he made with Abraham will continue. And they were alienated from it.
32:18
Now, I think when God said, I will bless those who bless you and I'll curse those who curse you. They should have been included in it. Israel was supposed to be a great light to the nations. They weren't really that great at it. And for me, in this day, I say, are we great at it?
32:35
Are we a great light to those around us or not so much? Are we hoarding the blessing like Israel did? The commonwealth of Israel, God made promises to them and they were looking forward to Messiah the way we look back on Jesus. They were looking forward towards him. But Gentiles, remember, at that time, you were alienated from the Commonwealth of Israel and you were strangers to the covenants of promise.
32:59
You knew nothing about the promises of God because you knew nothing of almighty God. Having no hope and without God in the world. So, he's doing exactly the same thing he did in verse one through three. Again, in verses eleven and twelve He's saying, this is where you were. Corporately, this is where you were.
33:20
You didn't have a chance So Gentiles, these are the ones he lives, separated from Christ and not just separated like he knew they knew about him but didn't know him. No. They didn't know about him. They were completely separated from the idea of Meshiach, from the anointed one that would come to take away the sin. Alienated from the commonwealth of Israel.
33:42
God did protect. Do we see that in the Old Testament? No matter how foolish they were, God would always bring em back in, right? They might have to go through the fire for a while but he've always brought em back in. Strangers to the covenants of promise.
33:57
Do you hold on to the promises of God yourself I do especially when it's bad. Do you do you do that? They were strangers to that. They had no hope If you bring it forward do the people surrounding us have any idea about the covenant promises of God? Residual biblical knowledge has faded for the most part, and people don't even know what they might hold on to.
34:23
Having no hope and when you have no hope, you make bad decisions. Renzi's whole time here, he's been saying, make good decisions. Make good decisions. When you have no hope, you make bad decisions and without God in the world and without God, you have no direction So, this is where it was. This is a pretty bleak state.
34:40
It's black. It is dark and it's standing up against these faithful Jews. They were anticipating the Messiah and looking forward to his coming with everything that was in them. They were a part of the commonwealth of Israel and they remembered the promises of God and they recited them at celebrations and festivals and in the morning and in the evening, they have all those great promises of God. They were very very familiar with the covenants of promise and actually, I think that they were guilty in the same way that we can be guilty today of hoarding that blessing of God and hoarding those covenant promises and saying, these are for us.
35:22
Well, they're for us and anybody who would accept them. Christ made that obvious. They were hoping in God. They were looking to him and they were blessed with God's word and with his presence in the temple, in the holy of holies, the innermost and if you look at the temple and you see the holy of holies where only one guy gets to go once a year after he's been completely purged and made a sacrifice or made a sacrifice for his own sin that his family. Then, he can go in but then out of that, there's a little Jewish place and then outside of that, there's a Jewish women place and then outside of that, that's where the Gentiles.
36:00
They can't even really get close. There's a stark contrast. In fact, the stark contrast says, there is a dividing wall and the dividing wall is a wall of hostility. What did they most often call uncircumcision? Probably, the Jews would call the Gentiles but they also called them dogs.
36:20
Subhuman. They were dogs. A Jewish man's prayer in the morning. Lord, thank you that you did not make me. Whoo.
36:29
A Gentile. Or a slave or a woman actually. It goes on. So would you get up here for just a second? So as we go This is You did it.
36:53
So we come dressed the same today. I'm of Scottish heritage, Scottish McDaniel. It's a it's a strong Mac. Even though I don't have the A in there, it's McDaniel. It's Scotch Irish.
37:06
And this guy is gypsy heritage and he mentions it fairly often. I mention it occasionally. I read a story this week. You can sit down. I just want to to This week, I read about Ironsides, a guy that was in pastor Moody Church for many many years, Ironsides was on a train, Harry Ironside.
37:22
He was on a train and he's Scottish heritage and a gypsy woman came up to him And this gypsy woman said, I will tell you your future. Very mysterious, know, had the bufonda and everything. And she's like, I will tell you your future. And Erensaid, Erensaid said, so what's it gonna cost me?
37:41
Speaker 2And he said, it will cost you only a dollar. And he goes, well, I want to know
37:45
Speaker 1what I'm going get for a dollar. Are going tell me my past, my present, and my future or just my future? And she says, She's getting frustrated with him already and so he reaches in. He pulls out his New Testament and he says, because I can tell you my past, present, and future right now. I can tell you exactly what is my past, what is my present, what is my future right now So he goes to this.
38:16
This is my past. I was dead in my sins and trespasses. I followed after the course of the world. I followed the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience. I lived there in the passions of my flesh.
38:32
I carried out the desires of my body and mind, and I was by nature a child of wrath just like the rest of mankind and he said in my present because God is rich in mercy because of the great love with which he loved. Even while I was dead in my trespasses, he made me alive together with Christ. It's by grace that I've been saved and raised me up and seated me with him in heavenly places in Christ Jesus and he said, and I know my future. He mentioned to her those two spheres on that train. This little gypsy woman now.
39:11
Even today, this is bothering me saying Scottish and gypsy because in Christ, there is no division. There is no hostility. There is no slave or free. There's no barbarian, Scythian, Greek. The rest of this chapter is about how we've gone through this and see that great dividing wall that had been built up and I'm afraid we occasionally will stack a brick in between Christians and everyone else.
39:43
Saved and lost. Build them up. But now, verse 13 says, in Christ Jesus, you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Amen. Amen.
39:59
That is what tears down that law. The difference between Gentile and Jew way back when is very, very stark. After the cross, the difference is still there. They still have all of that. And it unfortunately, I removed faithful Jews and I say they're still anticipating the Messiah and they still have a very Jewish flavor.
40:26
But by the cross, they have access to God. It was always by the cross that they would have access to God. It was always that way. What they had anticipated, what they had thought would be the Messiah was their own construction. God's sacrificial system was pointing them towards the cross.
40:48
Now, the Gentiles have been brought near by Christ. Now, they are associated with those with the commonwealth of Israel. We continue. We pick up the Old Testament and we bring in the new. We've been grafted into the covenants of promise.
41:04
I do believe that the Jews have some covenants of promise that will continue that are for them. I don't know what they are. Sorry. Rich is back there though. You can ask Rich.
41:16
He's very very good at that particular subject. The covenants of promise. I feel that God has brought us. He's brought down that wall of hostility because it says he has. Now, I'm from Georgia.
41:31
A lot of y'all are from the South too and a lot of y'all are from the North where the racism is not as apparent. I love this little gypsy man over here like a brother and I'm ashamed of any racist stuff that was in my life before but when I became serious about God and when I was walking towards him and walking away from my sin, I found that I cared less and less and less what somebody's background was. That's it. That's the end of that sermon. I want for you to realize your desperate state.
42:15
I want for you to realize where you were, and I want for you to realize that a lot of the baggage, the racial baggage, the other stuff that you bring in, you brought in from that into your Christianity. Christianity is not that. Now, the most divided, the most segregated hour is Sunday morning about 10:00 to 11:00. There's not a whole lot of crossover between white churches and black churches, and that's a shame. It's a pitiful shame.
42:51
If you're holding on to anything and it's against a nationality or there's any kind of xenophobia at all in you. I talked to somebody yesterday and I said, you can't hold on to that. You cannot hold on to that. Christ died to eliminate that, to break down that wall of hostility. You cannot hold on to that.
43:12
He goes, to Christian, whatevers, that maybe true. He it was Mexicans in particular yesterday. So, for Christian Mexicans, I don't have to hold on to. Wait a second. Did you not get that it's by grace that you're saved?
43:25
Did you not get that it is you were in a desperate state if they are non Christian Mexicans, God is using his people to reach out to them to bring them in to tear down the wall of hostility Do you not get that? So, no, you don't get to hold on to it. If you're holding on to any racism, the Bible gives you no place to hide Okay? Short sermon, but hard because it's very sneaky and it's very persistent. And you'll find yourself doing it when even when you don't want to.
43:58
I say at that point, say, God forgive me and God help me. Help me. Bring me nearer and nearer to the cross because you died for everyone who would believe. Now, I mentioned a couple in particular, Gypsy, Scottish, and all of the stereotypes that go with that. His story says, Jewish, I mean, sorry, Gypsy, fortune teller, Scottish, frugal, little penny pincher, right?
44:29
That's what the story told. And this was the preacher that was telling this on this passage. He was talking about this, and he didn't realize he's stereotyping now the world. It has become very unpopular, very, very unpopular. And Christians are made fun of left and right because of our segregation mentality, whether we know it or not.
44:50
They outsiders think that we don't love across cultural boundaries. That is a shame. It's exactly opposite from the great commission. It is the opposite of what he's saying. Go ye therefore into all the world.
45:07
Now I say all of those, and then I have one more. The Christian Muslim divide. Do not accept their theology. Do not accept their idea of God. Do not accept their idea of law or how it should be.
45:21
But by all means, accept them. Live your life with such great love that it draws people into the kingdom of God. Have the words of Christ on your lips, have the wherewithal to explain it by grace through faith that we've been saved. Not of ourselves It's the gift of God and it's a free gift and you can accept it too In Jesus name, lord, would you bless those who are right here here in this to do your good work. Those that you prepared in advance.
46:01
Lord, would you tear down the walls of hostility? Would you erase all the lines that racism has drawn? Would you do a work in our hearts, lord, that only you can do? Would you bring us into perfect harmony and peace? In Jesus name.
46:17
Amen. Would you stand with us and sing?
46:36
Speaker 2The cross. I'm standing standing Standing on the promises that cannot fail when the house storms of doubt and fear gonna sail. By the living word of God. God. Standing on the promises you're
47:52
Speaker 3world.
47:54
Speaker 2Do able I'm of God, my savior. Standing. Eternally by love's strong core, overcome daily by the spirit's sword, standing on the promises of God. I'm standing, standing,
48:58
Speaker 1So, I have a benediction but I'm also going to invite Renzi and Kayle and Boone and Ace up here to the front. We can hold off on the benediction for a moment. If you are an elder here at this church or if you have ever been an elder here at this church because once an elder, always an elder, would y'all come forward and we want to lay hands on these guys and send them forth into their new adventure whatever that maybe, whatever the road God has for em. Would you all pray with us as we pray for them? God, I thank you for Gail and for Renzi and for Boone and for Ace for all that they have been here in you and lord, I thank you that they are in you.
49:44
I thank you that they walk it out, that they live this life before men so that they may see you. God, I ask that you reflect your glory off of them in Sheridan and in the surrounding parts up there closer to family and God that you would bless this family, that you would give em clear direction and the strength to walk in that direction. In those good works that you've prepared for them in advance. We have joked and have played back and forth silly games about their leaving because it is hard for us. But God, we want to send them with great confidence in knowing that we are 100% behind them and supporting them in this move and lord that we are available to them for any kind of guidance we can give or any kind of help we can offer.
50:32
In Jesus name, lord, I ask your blessing on both Kale and Renzy. In Jesus name, amen. Amen. And now y'all, I've got a benediction so that may Christ dwell in your hearts through faith that you being rooted and grounded in love, you may have the strength to comprehend with all the saints. What is the breadth and the length and the height and the depth to know the love of Christ that surpasses all knowledge that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
51:02
In Jesus name, amen. And would you all join us for the picnic later? It's going to be after the second service about 12:15. Amen.
