God Saved Me and He Gave Me Peace
A study guide · February 11, 2024
In one paragraph
Pastor Carl opened the service with a brief testimony about his own walk with God, centered on the peace he found in Christ after a prodigal stretch in his late teens. Then the main message moved through the entire book of Philippians, letting Paul's letter to the church at Philippi speak for itself on joy, unity, humility, and the peace that comes from fixing your mind on what is true and good....

Talk about it
- Carl shared that he found peace in Christ after a season of trying to find it on his own. Where have you looked for peace outside of Christ, and what did that experience teach you?
- Pastor Nathan read through Paul's description of his imprisonment and noted that Paul saw his circumstances as turning out 'for the greater progress of the gospel.' Can you think of a difficult situation in your own life that God used in a way you did not expect?
- Paul urged the Philippians to 'do nothing out of selfishness or empty conceit' and to consider others more important than themselves, pointing to Christ emptying himself as the example. What does that kind of humility actually look like in everyday relationships, and where do you find it hardest to practice?
- Pastor Nathan mentioned a personal habit of asking himself what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and commendable about a situation or a person when he starts to get frustrated. How do you think deliberately dwelling on those things changes the way you respond to hard situations or difficult people?
- Paul told the Philippians not to be anxious about anything, but to bring everything to God in prayer with thanksgiving. The sermon noted that you cannot be anxious and grateful at the same time. What gets in the way of you moving from anxiety to gratitude, and what has helped you make that shift?
