0:01
Alright, my friends. We are live. Good morning. How are you?
0:04
Good to see you. Guess what we're gonna sing? I'll tell you. It's this, just to know you and to make you known, we lift your name on high. So what do you say?
0:12
We stand and we'll sing. Alright. Herein, herein this morning weary land, many a dream has died. Like a tree planted by the water, never will run dry. So living water, living water flowing through.
0:45
God, we thirst from more of you. Fill our hearts and flood our souls. One desire just
0:57
to know you,
0:58
just to know you and to make you know who lived your name all night. Trying like the sun may darkness run and We know we were made for so much more nor denariably lies. It's time for us to more than just survive. We were made to thrive into your word. Into your word, we're digging deep to know our father's heart.
1:49
And to the world, we're reaching out to show them who you are. Living water. Living water flowing through. God, thirst for more of you. Fill our hearts and flood our souls, one desire.
2:15
Just to know you and to make you know We lived your name all night. Shine like the sun made darkness run and die. We know we were made for so much more than long in married lives. It's time for us to more than just survive we were made to thrive
2:57
Amen. Y'all can have a seat. I have a few announcements for you this morning. We'll see what they are together. Monday nights at First B, Home Sweet Home.
3:09
Yep. What's happening?
3:10
We are on tomorrow. Meal, music, and message. Know that you are invite invited Proverbs part seven tomorrow and so, please come and join us.
3:20
Proverbs part seven, you could start at any point. You don't have to have heard the other six. Alright. That's Monday nights at first B that happens at the same time as Awana. All over the rest of the church, Awana is going.
3:30
It's kids club. We're pouring scripture and caring individual people that love kids and love God are here and pouring in scripture into the minds to reach the hearts the kids. There's an age group from two all the way up through fifth grade for that. There are Bible studies today that are happening downstairs during the sermon time up here. That sounds like a good way to escape, doesn't it?
3:54
The way that I said that right there, sorry. For middle school and high school boys, middle school, and high school girls and Peak Children's Church is going on downstairs during the sermon time. So, after the song service, an offering this morning, that'll be going on. Precept study on Thursday, there will be a precept study, 09:00 sharp. They're studying through the book of Jeremiah.
4:18
It's part one. So, it's the first 24 chapters and they're in it about four, five chapters deep. You can catch up, I promise. Women read the Bible and pray in Teton Valley, Idaho. I hope that's not a surprise to you.
4:29
There are there there is a group of em that meets though at the home 08:30 to ten on Friday mornings. There's the address. If you want more information, you can talk to me or you can talk to one of them and get more info. Turning Point has a baby bottle campaign. Have you all heard of this before?
4:46
Yes? Yes, most of you have. So, there are some empty baby bottles back there in the back and the it is a fundraiser. The way that they do this is you take one of those empty baby bottles, put your spare change in it, or bigger bills or checks if you want to and then turn them back in here at the church. They'll come pick them up and this is one of the major fundraisers that Turning Point has each year.
5:08
It's a great organization and so, I think this is a fun one for the whole family. Community groups have started and they have been happening this week. There's one on Tuesday, there's one on Wednesday, there's one on Thursday, there are others too but there are three of em that just started. You could still get in on that. Shall I invite James up?
5:28
No? Where is he? I I'll speak on his behalf. Okay, very good. Fantastic.
5:41
So, we're hoping to kind of establish a first first wave here and we've got four groups started just right here in the last week or so. That's some of those, I'm sure some of those are still open and ready to go. You can talk to Mike afterwards if you would. Don't get close to him though. He's been sick.
5:58
Alright. Just stand back from him, alright? Nursery volunteers are still needed. We won't beat this one as hard as we beat this drum last week. Thank you for praying about it and thank you for doing it and there are volunteers who have signed up but if you feel like, you know what?
6:14
I I meant to last week and I didn't, you still can sign up today for that. There is coming up the World Day of Prayer. Actually, Women's World Day of Prayer is on March 6. It'll be a gathering of all the different churches in the valley. We'll gather here.
6:31
Tanya, my wife is kind of heading that up today. Do you want to say something, Tanya? Okay, 03/06/2020. It's coming. It will be hosted here about every five years we host it here and then the rest of the years, it's, you know, somewhere else at a different church in the valley but it's a good time for us all to get together.
6:49
The ladies of Zimbabwe have prepared a short Bible study that it'll include a lunch. So, if you would, Tanya may call on you and ask you to bring in a dessert or a side dish or something but there will be a a lunch accompanying this. World Day of Prayer, twelve to one over the lunch hour, 03/06/2020. Welcoming announcements. Are there any things that I have forgotten?
7:12
If I did, they should be in your paper bulletin that you're handed on the way in. We sure that there's nothing Welcome. I'm glad you're here this morning. I'm glad to be here this morning. It's beautiful.
7:23
Glad tidings. Would y'all stand up and greet one another? We'll bring you back together with a song.
8:09
There's a song in my soul, and I feel it stirring in me. This I know for sure, that your love is like a fun and your mercy never ending. I give my song to you and there's a joy in my soul. There's a joy in my soul. And it rises like a morning.
8:39
This I know for sure. That your grace is enough and your promise never breaking. I give my song to you, all of
8:54
your goodness. All of your goodness is like a whale
9:00
running over. Oh, my soul, it sings for you. For all
9:07
your goodness, I will
9:11
love you forever. All my songs I'll sing for you. Yes. All my songs 'll sing for you.
9:34
There's a hope, let's sing
9:36
that. There's a hope in my heart burning bright in the darkness. This I know for sure that I will look upon your face, never dwell in your prisons, and always see to you for all. And
10:00
all of your goodness is like a
10:04
whale running over. Oh, my soul, it sings for you
10:12
for all of your goodness. I will love
10:16
you forever. All my songs I'll sing for you. Yes. All my songs I'll sing for you. And let my life.
10:31
I let my life be to a symphony singing out holy holy. All my days, every single breath I'll be singing out holy. Oh, holy. Let my life. I let my life be to you a symphony singing out holy, holy.
11:06
All my days, every single breath I breathe singing out holy.
11:28
For all of your goodness,
11:31
I will love you forever. All my songs, I'll sing for you. Yes. All my songs I'll sing for you.
11:57
We pray on that. God, it is good to meet with you this morning and it's good to pray with you as we sing that song. I thought about the woman at the well. You tell her you you are the well that doesn't run dry. And so Lord, would we look to you for that spiritual filling up?
12:19
Really? Look to you that you are the well that doesn't run dry. You fill us to overflowing. Even in the darkest hour, you fill us to overflowing and you give us a hope and you give us a joy and so we sing of it. We sing of it with sincerity.
12:36
We sing of it and love and this is an expression of our our our praise to you. Our our thanks to you. In Jesus name. Amen.
13:41
Foresee no tool. Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Not of good that I have done. And this is all my old pen piece. Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
14:32
This is all my righteousness. Jesus. One more.
15:18
God, truly, thank you for thank you for meeting us where we're at. Thank you God for stepping down into to human history and committing no crimes yourself, laying your life down for hours, and offering us a relationship. And this morning, I'm grateful for a relationship. Thank you, God, that we take you everywhere we go. It's not just here.
15:42
Sure, we we praise you collectively here, but God, you are with us in absolutely every every moment of life and that right there is a gift, your presence. Amen.
16:09
Worthy of their song, we could hear and sing. Worthy of all praise we could ever bring. Worthy of their own breath we could ever bring. We live for you. Jesus, the name of our every love name.
16:41
Jesus, the only one I could ever say. Worthy you live in Brown, we could ever bring. The to heart and lead me ir and your love to those around me. Holy, there is no one like you. There is no beside you.
17:37
Open up my eyes and wonder. Show me who you are and fill me with your heart. Indeed, me and your love to those around me. And let's sing, I will build my life and I will build my life upon your love. It is our firm foundation.
18:16
I will put my trust in you, O Lord. And I will not be shaken. I will Holy, there is no one like you. There is none beside you. Open up my eyes in wonder.
20:06
Man, y'all can have a seat. The frontline team is coming forward. There's a lot of youth in here right now. It's great to see folks growing up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. God, would you use us this morning?
20:22
Lord, would you use every bit of our lives? Some of us have more of one resource than another. Some of us have more of a different kind of gifting. Lord, would you use all that we offer to you? We know we that you will use.
20:36
Lord, would you use it to build your kingdom for your glory, lord, ultimately, for our good. I pray that you would take the offerings that are placed in the plates this morning and you'd use them as you will to spread your gospel. Good news. The message of God's love and forgiveness that's available to all who put their trust in Christ. Thank you for your son.
21:00
Thank you Jesus for coming. Thank you for walking in the spirit and walking it out. I thank you that you have promised a comforter and that the Holy Spirit abides. He indwells, that we can be filled with your spirit, lord, and and we can walk in submission to that. Thank you, lord.
21:19
We're overwhelmingly thankful this morning. I pray that you would take all that we've give you and we would do your kingdom's work in obedience and full submission lord. In Jesus name, thank you for the opportunity to serve. Amen. Amen.
26:23
Thank you, gals. So, it's time now for the children's church downstairs and there's a middle school and high school boys group and a middle school and high school girls group down there too. And we're going to be going through and studying up here Hebrews thirteen one through eight. We're in a chronological study of the New Testament. We've been going forward for for a long time now.
26:52
Seven and a half years, probably, close to seven and a half years and we're up to about 67 AD. We are in Hebrews and I will say the last few messages from Hebrews have been very, very, very deep and difficult not just for the guy presenting them but for the people who are listening and a lot of people, it's kind of flushed a lot of things to the surface which is good. It's kind of a refiner's fire. Last week, we had God is a consuming fire with the closing line and there's something about fire that purifies metal. Y'all know that and then after the fact, after it's purified and it's pure in order to temper it, you use heat again and so that's what we've been going through.
27:44
Now, we're up to chapter 13. This is closing chapter of the book. So, it's kind of like a preacher saying in closing. There's still plenty left. Okay, there's still plenty left and don't get your hopes up but anyway, there's when a preacher says that but it is the beginning of the last chapter of the book.
27:59
I think there are 24 verses. We're going to do a third of em today and this is all that we'll cover today. This is all that we'll cover together. It's one through eight. It's kind of breaking in the midst of a paragraph.
28:14
I don't usually do that but the next one opens up into some other concepts. So I want to do justice. I'm gonna stop right there at eight. This is practical advice. I said at the close of the book of James when we did James years ago, five, six years ago now.
28:30
When we were doing the James, it's like he is giving practical advice throughout. I could say it's a command. They are commands. They're imperatives. There are things there but it is saying, okay, now that I've said all of that theological stuff and now that I've given you the direct commands, here we go.
28:49
This is how you go forward. When the Gentile group started coming in to the family of God, when the Gentile group started coming in and it had been primarily Jewish background folks, There was a little bit of a mix. Do you all remember that? The Jerusalem Council, they got together. So, what are we going to tell these people?
29:11
They don't even know how to live. They don't know how it is because they haven't had the training that we've had and he says, well, let's break it down and let's give em the don't do this and don't do this and don't do this. Keep it tight on Jesus. Keep looking straight ahead and that's going be enough. That letter, that little part is in Acts and you can read it if you want to but this little section is kind of practical advice.
29:34
This is the way to live. I love it. Let love of the brethren continue. By the way, the next book we're going to, if you want to start ahead of time is first John. First John, I'm glad to be out of perseverance just a little bit for a while.
29:51
It takes perseverance to let love of the brethren continue. This is one of those kind of commands that brings us all in together and says, let's keep on doing this. You're doing this and you're doing it well. You're doing it because shared experience matters, right? Shared experience makes a difference.
30:07
So, let us all do this. Let's let love of the brethren continue. Love one another, Jesus said. Love one another well. Now, love there is Philos love.
30:19
It's brotherly love. Y'all heard thousand sermons about three different kinds of love. There's Philos, Neras, and Agape. This one is let brotherly love continue. So, they're already doing it.
30:31
The writer of Hebrews recognizes this and says, let's keep on doing that. Y'all knocked it out of the park here. Keep on loving one another well. Beyond that, do not neglect outside of the brotherhood, outside of those that you know and you love, that are part of your little body right here. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers.
30:51
Do y'all realize living here where we live? We have a great opportunity to show hospitality to strangers because how many strangers do we see a year? Five and a half million by the last count I read. They're coming through all the time from all over the globe. People coming here for a season or two seasons or then they meet somebody and they stay like everybody, right?
31:15
That's an amazing opportunity that while people are here, we have an opportunity to bless them. So, let's be blessing em. Don't neglect to show hospitality to strangers, people that you don't know. Hospitality is listed as Christian verse two and these three places, it's in the list of be doing these things in all of those places. It's also listed in Titus and in Timothy as one of the characteristics of an elder.
31:45
Qualifications or characteristics of an elder is they need to be showing hospitality to strangers. I don't have any pictures of this this week but you get opportunities. They they show up. I do not recommend everybody hit pick up hitchhikers all the time, okay? I love hitchhikers.
32:03
Oh, I love picking him a Baptist preacher. Oh, they're thinking oh, great. They get in I got three commentary scattered around, know, but I also have a good set of jumper cables. I got a really, really good set of jumper cables. And if you got cheapo nonsense came with the car, they're not good jumper cables, okay?
32:21
And people can try with little cables and it just smokes them and it doesn't help. So, there's a sprinter van. It's down the other end of Henry's Road and there are three folks in ski attire at Wendy's hitchhiking and I thought, that's okay. We got start buses all over the place. Anybody who's in ski attire to get to the village, they wouldn't be there at that time because the business was closed at that time.
32:44
But I was like, I'm going to turn around. So, it's a difficult spot. Turn around across all lanes of traffic, come back, pick em up. I was hide the commentaries, you know. Wanna sneak up on em.
32:58
Anyway, they they were like, oh man, thank you for stopping. You know, it's it was twelve below when we got up this morning. Got a sprinter van down the other Henry's Road. It's dead. We got somebody coming from Rigby.
33:11
We're supposed to call em. It's two hours for there. It's two hours back to there. It's gonna be it's like 07:30 in the evening. I was like, so what's wrong with it?
33:19
Well, I got a buddy who works for the Teton County School System. He's the bus barn guy. He's a got a sprinter van or has had a couple of his own. He's a diesel mechanic. Know that guy.
33:27
We can probably help you with that And I know I can call him, you know, that kind of thing. And then I said, where is it exactly South of town? I said, oh, I know a guy who's part of the church that owns a diesel mechanic shop right there south of town. Might be able to call on him too and I have called on both of those guys and they've always been able to help, you know? But then, I thought and I got a strong jumper cables because what they described was, it was 12 below and the battery didn't work and so we talked all the way down there, talk about different things.
33:59
And then we get down there and connect into a power source that does have power with a good set of cables does make a difference. So let's let it warm up for a while. Let let it charge for a while and then he goes, well, flicking the glow plugs, you know, doing what you do So, what do you think I ought to do now? I said, try it. Cranks right up.
34:24
No problem. It was awesome to be able to. I'm not saying that. Oh, look at what I did. That's so great.
34:29
It's so awesome to be able to. Get a good set of jumper cables. Okay. If you know anything at all about cars, get a good set of jumper cables because you still can't connect a terrible set and make any difference whatsoever. Practical advice.
34:43
Anyway, for by this, some have entertained angels without even knowing it. It is an extreme blessing to be able to help and every once in a while, you'll have one of those people that you're helping that helps you tremendously. Maybe spiritually, maybe maybe in generosity, maybe I don't do it for that, don't ever do it for that, but God has a way of blessing through our blessing others and this is the practical advice. Do not neglect to show hospitality strangers. For by this, some have entertained angels without even knowing it.
35:19
There are couple of Old Testament examples of that. I'm not gonna get into but there are some. Remember the prisoners. Remember the prisoners. Now, this writer or these writers writing to a primarily Jewish background audience and they're now claiming Christ and there's a terrible persecution going on.
35:41
Localized where these folks were but growing and with that persecution, the temptation was for them to go back to religiosity of first century Judaism which is pointing towards the truth. It's pointing towards the truth but just getting stuck in practicing the legalistic part of that and going and ticking the boxes does not get you here. It points you here but you gotta stick with this. You can't just fall back into that and that's what this writer has been talking about the whole time. Persevering in the faith.
36:14
Peter would say, resist the devil. Firm in your faith. Resist. Firm in your faith. Persevere.
36:21
Firm in your faith. This says, remember the prisoners. Some of these people had been arrested. Some of their properties had been seized. Some of them had been beaten.
36:31
Some of them as far as we can tell, nobody from their little fellowship had been murdered yet but it was coming. We see that from other places in the book. Remember the prisoners. Remember em. Don't forget about em.
36:45
Just because they're not here with you right now, don't forget about em. Remember em and it says how to remember em. Remember them as though you were in prison with them. And remember those who are ill treated. So, people are not normally arrested for being Christians these days, right?
37:03
Not normally. It happens occasionally, I think but in our country, in our context, we don't normally get arrested for being Christians. We don't normally get dragged down to the jailhouse, not normally. It still happens all over the world in a lot of different places. Sorry.
37:25
Somewhere you have to be, you're surrounded by people that you don't really know, who are of questionable character, and you're kinda stuck there. Middle school. Middle school Remember those in middle school. Remember those in high school. Remember those who are against their will in a lot of cases taken and dragged away and they're surrounded by people that don't have the same beliefs that they do.
37:59
And if they're Christ followers, they're attempting to live it out in a context where it doesn't make any sense to everybody around them. It does make sense. Brotherly love and hospitality to strangers and prisoners. Remember them and just like you were there with them. Those who are ill treated.
38:19
Those who are being bullied. Those who are being bullied for their faith. Remember, just like you were right there with them. Strengthen them and encourage them. Since you yourselves are in the same body.
38:37
The body metaphor is used throughout. You know, Paul uses it quite often and we see it, you know, a lot in Corinthians. We see, you know, just because a hand is not an eye, just these these sort of things. So, the body metaphor is a strong one. You're a part of this body.
38:53
When one part of this body is suffering, we're all suffering. I know that we have gone through a season of death here for the last little while and there are widows among us and there are folks who have lost people who are dear to them amongst their folks who have lost children among us. Have empathy and compassion on those people and love them and pray for them. Since you yourselves are also in the same body. Marriage, marriage is to be held.
39:25
This is continuing practical advice. Marriage is to be held in honor among all. Actually, if you see the italics up there, that's added for it to make sense in English. It says, marriage in honor. Marriage in honor.
39:39
Keep marriage in a sacred place. It's an elevated commitment that is a representation Paul says for the way that Christ loves the church. It's the closest human thing that we have to display this. Marriage honored among all and if you go to a wedding, a lot of times they'll say, in the first opening remarks of the pastor, dearly beloved, we're gathered here today. Marriage has been held in high esteem among all culture for all the time.
40:04
It says that, keep it that way. Keep it that way. Marriage should be held in honor among all and the marriage bed is to be undefiled. You see all the italics added. I I like to just shoot the straightest that I can with this.
40:20
Marriage in honor among all bed undefiled. I think there's a point to that. The the straightforwardness of it. Don't let our society fool you into believing that things that are outside of that are okay and if you think, oh, come on, Ray. You're probably going a little.
40:43
Nope. Fornicators and adulterals, God will judge. Makes it certain. There's no doubt about it and since the word for Esau, his immoral and godless lifestyle was fornicator just above. It's twice mentioned in in about less than 10 verses.
40:59
So, it matters. It matters. Anything out of covenantal marriage. Man and wife, before God, committed for life. Any activity outside of that is not helpful.
41:16
It's not good. It should not be. Period. He goes on. Make sure that your character is free from the love of money.
41:25
Now, that's another one of those in the list of qualifications for elder in both Titus and Timothy. Make sure that your character is free from the love of money. Being content with what you have. Already said multiple times that in the circumstances you find yourself to have gratitude, to be grateful. It's not a sin to have money.
41:43
It is a sin to be greedy. It is. So, make sure that your character is free from the love of money because the love of money is the root of all evil. Money is not the root of all evil. The love of it.
41:57
A lust after money is problematic. Being content with what you have for he himself has said, I will never desert you nor will I ever forsake you. Most of us would immediately think of Jesus when we hear, I'll never leave you nor forsake you because Jesus did say that to his disciples. He did but this is not without precedence in the Old Testament. It says it a couple of times that God was would be with us.
42:24
Deuteronomy and in Exodus, he said, he would be with us and he will. So, make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have, and our contentedness is because of the promise of God that he will be with us through lean times and through times of plenty. Be content with whatever it is and whatever conditions I find myself, Paul says elsewhere. In whatever conditions I find myself, I've learned how to be content. Praise God for that.
42:53
So, we can confidently say, the Lord is my helper and I will not be afraid. What will man do to me? Jesus said, why is it that you fear man who only can deal with your body, who can only harm your body? Fear God is the beginning of wisdom. Fear of God is beginning of wisdom and God deals with our soul everlasting.
43:24
So, the Lord is my helper and I will not be afraid of anybody. What will man do to me? Alright. Remember those who led you. I think because 17 says and pay attention to ones who are leading you now.
43:42
I think that this is probably people who had passed or if they hadn't passed, they had moved along to ministry somewhere else. Remember those who led you in the past. Remember em. Remember them. Those who spoke the word of God to you.
43:56
I'm gonna stop right here. I'm gonna go back to one of those blank slots. At the beginning, it said, let brotherly love continue and don't neglect to show hospitality. Showing hospitality is important and where we're getting up to right now. We're just about to get to the the closing verse but there are couple of things, the prisoners thing.
44:18
I thought of middle schoolers. I also thought of a couple of stories. So in at CIU when I went to Columbia International University, it is along the Broad River, they're 400 something acres right along the Broad River. It's been there since 1923. It is Christian seminary and so there's an undergraduate program and there is a graduate program.
44:41
That's where I went to do the masters of divinity the whole deal. So, we're there and just upriver. So, it's right on the Broad River on the East Bank Of The Broad River and on the West Bank Of The Broad River, there is a prison. Just a little bit up from it, less than half a mile. You can see it from the campus.
44:58
You can see it and those prisoners were state prisoners. It's a state prison and on the day when Christian parents, a lot of them who had homeschooled their kids all the way through. We're dropping their kids off and doing orientation and everybody gets there excited for their kids first day of college and they locked down the campus because four prisoners had escaped from the Broad River Road Correctional Facility. They eventually opened back up, you know, found the guys or whatever but I thought that was one thing but the other thing was the professors from the seminary and some of the students, some of us as students. Didn't take for granted that all those guys in prison were criminals, awful hardened criminals.
45:47
They might be and they might have seen the error of their ways and been stuck by the consequences of their actions and their souls were still important. So, a lot of the professors, some of the students would go over and they would do the same classes that they were teaching on the East Bank Of The River. They started teaching them on the West Bank Of The River and they had one qualification for those guys getting into the program. Anybody could attend but to receive a degree, they had to be lifers with no possibility of parole. They were gonna be in the system for the of their lives.
46:26
And they had to be willing to go anywhere that the prison system would put them. Those were the qualifications and then a lot of them received their degrees. While I was there, the first batch going through received their degrees and those guys are all over the South Carolina prison system now and they're sharing the love of God with people that are in the same boat that they are. Some of the other people will get out. They're not gonna get out.
46:47
Not not likely to get out. Anyway, I thought that was really good and I've got one more. This one I should've used when we were surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Tanya thinks the stuff that I don't think of and I try not to use Paschal very often in sermons. I will sometimes and I think Tanya was right.
47:12
This is one of those times. So, how old was she, Tanya? Do you know? She was four, 3.5, four, somewhere in there. So, where I'm from, I'm not a runner.
47:22
I've mentioned that multiple times and you can tell. Where I'm from in Georgia, Country's Barbecue does a five ks run. And it's right there close to Fort Benning and Fort Benning is you know, where the train train the rangers and paratroopers and everything. And so this midnight run, they do it at midnight, they have a cannon in front of the barbecue place, and they shoot the cannon at exactly midnight. And that's the starting gun for everybody to run this five k race.
47:51
And so we had done a couple times before, you know, free barbecue when you finish that kind of thing. And sweet tea and barbecue at midnight when you finish a five ks. And so Pasco comes along. We've been in Mexico. We've been out here a lot of times but this was in between the time when we leave from here doing carpentry and we get home doing seminary and we got there and and Paschal wanted to run and she was warming up and she was getting ready and I'm kinda warming up and getting ready too and Tanya too and we start running and Paschal was four and little bitty, you know, and as she starts running, she's off the line just going, going, going but you hadn't learned to pace yourself.
48:35
I hadn't learned to pace myself, you know. She's going, going, going and what we noticed was going through, it's through a residential neighborhood and during that night, everybody stays up late, they may probably nap all afternoon to be able to do this. Some of them have bands in the front yard playing music. Some of them have speakers set up in the front yard cheering people on. They all stand next to the raceway handing out cups of water.
49:01
And they're like, go, go, go. And when we would feel like we're languishing and Pascal felt like she was languishing. She's starting to slump and she's still going, still running, still moving her arms even if her feet were walking and we'd get to one of those places where the people in the front yard and they'd say, go, go, go and she'd stand up straight and she could go. It encouraged, it made a difference, made a difference in the way that she was running. Made a difference in the way that I was running and as we went on further and further and further, she got to where there's a long stretch and it's actually in front of a high school and a middle school.
49:41
It's a long stretch and there's not any people because that right there is institutional. It's not residential and it's the longest hill. It's the longest hill. There's a middle school on this side and there's a high school on this side and you're running and you're running and you're running and it's street light to street light. It's pretty dark and as you're getting through there, there's not anybody cheering you on and she starts to languish and I was languishing and she dropped back and I and Tanya was back there with her and kinda encouraging as she goes and I was trying to encourage as I and I went back and I said, baby, can you go?
50:13
She said, I can't go. She was still moving but I can't go. I said, jump up here. So, I put her up on my shoulders. And Tanya was then encouraging me to go but she's four and little bitty but she was up on top of my shoulders and I was running with her and then we turned the corner and when we turned the corner, residential again.
50:36
There are people out there. The the long, dark, uphill portion was over and we had all these people encouraging us again and as we're running and I'm holding her, they're cheering us both on and then right before the finish, I'm able to put her down and she crosses the finish line with gusto. Then we ate barbecue and drank sweet tea. Put on our T shirts. It was a great, great, great way to express that hospitality to strangers matters.
51:10
We're surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses cheering us on. Remember those who led you. This is funny too. So, the eighty second, the hundred first airborne, you know, Rangers, they're the ones who are training in this place and they start in the back of the pack in formation. And they have their flag and they're cleaning up their fight songs.
51:33
You know, they're singing their cadences in a family friendly sort of way and as they're running, they never break formation and they pass almost everybody in the pack. When they passed us, I mean, they're running like they run, you know, just do steady plotting as you go. And as they passed us, Paschal's on my shoulders. I said, I'm not going. I'm going to stay with them.
51:59
Their their motto after all is follow me, right? The infantry. Remember those who led you. Remember those who spoke the word of God to you. Were there people who poured into your life at some point that spoke the word of God to you?
52:15
Remember them. Remember their godly example and considering conduct. What's the result of their conduct? The result of their conduct is you now believe in Jesus. You now believe in Christ and others probably too.
52:29
You're encouraged and you're able to keep on running this race. Remember, those who led you and spoke the word of God to you and considering the result result of their conduct, imitate their faith. We make pitiful saviors. We can't say we can only connect people to the one who can but it is through the way that we live out our faith that others have an example in the time that they live in to be able to go forward in their faith. So, remember those who led you, spoke the word of God to you, and considering the result of their conduct, you imitate their faith.
53:01
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. We're mid paragraph and we'll stop right here though. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If in sixty seven AD, this writer, writers of Hebrews is writing and saying, yeah, there were some glory days when everything was hunky dory before people figured out what was going on, before there was persecution, and Jesus was good during those times and since much of the focus of this book has been looking back at the goodness of God in Old Testament. I think that we can say, Jesus was the same then.
53:36
Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. No matter how the society shifts, no matter how things seem to change, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Faith placed in him will steady you and keep you from the double mindedness and the temptation that you're facing right now. So, sorry. There we go.
54:04
That's it. Let love of the brethren continue. Good advice. Keep on loving one another. Y'all do a good job with that.
54:09
This is a warm and receptive fellowship amongst yourself but receptive and we show hospitality to strangers. Keep on doing that. Let's keep on doing that. Not ever neglect it. We might even entertain angels unaware.
54:24
Remember the prisoners as though in prison with them. Those who are ill treated, whoever they might be, since you yourselves are in the same body, marriage, and honor among all. That undefiled. Fornicators and adulterers, God will judge. Make sure that your character is free from the love of money.
54:44
Being content with what you have for he himself has said, I'll never desert you nor will I ever forsake you. So, we can confidently say because he says he's with us, we can say the Lord's my helper. He's with me. Lean times or times of plenty. I'm not gonna be afraid.
54:58
What will man do to me? Good practical advice. Remember those who led you, the ones you looked up to. I thank a brother Don Boyles, the pastor for the first eleven years of my recollection. Who spoke the word of God to you?
55:16
He's still preaching at that church. Considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. He's persevering in the faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Amen.
55:33
Would you all stand with us? I'm gonna invite the band back up.
56:06
In Christ alone, my hope is found.
56:12
He's my light, my strength, my soul.
56:16
This cornerstone, this solemn ground, round do the fiercest drowned stone. One heights alone, one depths of peace. There in the ground, his body lay
57:49
out of the world by
57:50
darkness lay then bursting forth
59:22
Amen. Now, the the benediction this morning is this from second Thessalonians. May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance.
