2:45
Amen. Thank you, Judy. Judy.

Speaker 1Amen. Y'all can have a seat. Thank you, Scott. Hey. And Loreen, thank you.
6:28
We've got a few announcements this week. Tomorrow night is Monday night at first B. That will be happening. A meal, music, and a message every Monday night. Down in the fellowship hall, 06:00 in the evening, meal music and a message actually in that order and that's good.
6:45
Carl will be back. He's out of town doing a wedding right now, but he'll be back for that tomorrow night. Monday nights at first be happening. How many of y'all know what Old Bills Fun Run is? Just about everybody here, but you have to be new to town to not know what it is, right?
6:58
There are lots of nonprofit organizations in Jackson. Many of them in Jackson because of Old Bills Fun Run. It's sort of like United Way if you're out of from out of town, except the community foundation receives money on behalf of different charitable organizations, and then they give that money to charitable organizations with an amplification. So usually, it ends up being about time and a half. So if you gave $1 to something, it'd be $1.49 or $1.50 It's a great, great deal for the nonprofits, and we are one of those.
7:30
We use these funds for our local benevolence account. So if someone were to come in and have a hard situation, like their car broke down, or they need a hotel room for the night, they weren't planning on being here and they just are in a difficult straits. We can say yes and help out with that. If with the money that comes in through old bills. So, it's great.
7:52
If you want to give to that, you're welcome to. You can also give to Turning Point that way, or you can give to Good Samaritan Mission if you want to do that. So that's that. First B's camp out. We're doing an annual camp out.
8:04
This is going to happen at Coulter Bay, Group Site Number 6, August 23, I think it is instead of the twenty second, twenty third, twenty fourth, coming back on the twenty fifth. So, it's a Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Come come for a little bit or for the whole time. It's $12 per person per night if you want to go up, and you can just go up and enjoy the evening worship gathering or maybe the morning worship gathering, or you can spend the night if you want to. There'll be meals too, so that'll be fun.
8:32
If you want to be a part of it, that's it right there. Brian McCooey knows more about that. There is a youth group trip going to Lagoon this Friday, August 9, and coming back on the tenth. Lagoon is a not just a morass, a swamp. It is an amusement park in Salt Lake City.
8:49
So Lagoon is the place they're going youth group trip Friday and Saturday. Connect hour happens between services. If y'all wanna get here a little early, it can keep you connected to that first service. We have probably something that I have forgotten. Does anybody know of anything that I've forgotten that I'm supposed to announce that I didn't?
9:09
Diane? Nope? Nothing today? So it's in the bulletin. If I didn't announce it and I should have, it would be in your paper bulletin that y'all have in your hands right now.
9:17
You know that and again, in the bulletin, we don't usually announce right here the prayer request but they are written in the bulletin. So, if you have any of those, you can let us know. We'll put em in there. Other than that, Like yeah. It's the shaky shake hand time, but if you wanna lock lips, I guess that's okay too.
9:39
Would y'all stand up and greet one another? It doesn't have to be with a holy kiss, but it could be.
9:47
Speaker 2Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved the rich like me
11:33
Speaker 1Amen. Amen. That's a good thrill. As the deer panteth for the water, so my soul longeth after thee. This is hymn number.
11:48
Amen. Hymn number five forty eight.

14:23
Speaker 1Y'all can have a seat. Would you pray with me? And I'm going invite the frontline team to come forward too. God, thank you for this beautiful morning. I thank you for this season, lord.
14:35
We're so thankful. As I woke up this morning and I'm striving lord. I'm striving to wake up saying, lord, I long to do your will and I think of it. When we breathe in, that's your provision of this next breath and then when we breathe out, may it be in praise to your name, God. Love you.
14:54
Thankful for you. Thankful you for your sustaining presence. I thank you that you uphold all things by the enabling power of your word. So, lord, we pray that we would be transmitting that word that would be proclaiming that word. We would be speaking it out with the way that we live our lives, but the way also we use our words.
15:15
God, I thank you for the resources that you have provided, and Lord, we wanna be good stewards of those and give to causes and things that amplify your name that give you the glory that you deserve. We pray lord that you would use tithes and offerings this morning that you'd multiply them to do your kingdom's work and lord that you'd bless that gift and the one who receives. Of your word, of your good gospel, and the one who gives the gift. In Jesus name, lord, we ask you for all those blessings. Amen.
16:11
Speaker 2There is a redeemer Jesus God's own son precious lamb of Messiah holy one thank you oh my father for giving us your sorrow and leaving your spirit till your work on earth is done Jesus my will see his face there I'll serve my king forever in that holy place. Sing with me. Your spirit till the work on earth is done thank you oh my father for
18:51
Speaker 1Amen. Thank you, Florine. So, last week, we met at the fair. We all there? Lot of y'all were there.
19:04
It was a combined service and I, as the pastor of this combined service, I think I took all the information I have for two services worth and did it at one time.
19:12
Speaker 2I went way beyond. It
19:14
Speaker 1was it wasn't like time wise long but there was way beyond. Way a whole lot of information at that service. So, today, I'd like to go back and kinda pick up some of the pieces that I let drop last week. That's alright with y'all. We're gonna talk about the portion that I just read.
19:30
I read Isaiah 11 through the end of the chapter and I didn't keep going last week but I should have. So, Isaiah, if you don't know about Isaiah, Old Testament book, we have in the last seven years been paying a whole lot more attention to the New Testament than we have the Old Testament. Admittedly, so, that's part of our scheme. I've been going forward and just doing a study chronologically of the New Testament as the books written but the New Testament quotes Isaiah more than any other Old Testament text. It's interesting because Isaiah is a message of judgement, heavy message of judgement, and a message of hope and it alternates all throughout the book.
20:15
Judgement and hope. Judgement and hope and it keeps on doing that throughout and last week at the fair, I mentioned that there are certain songs that when somebody starts to sing these songs, you just know what they're doing, where they're going, right? And I picked three and it wasn't at random. I had been planning all week. I'm preaching at the fair.
20:37
So, I thought of a whole bunch of songs that I thought everybody would know the words to. So, I thought of Gilligan's Island. Everybody knows the words. To Gilligan's Island, if I started, sit right back on your hear tale, y'all would all go that way. So, I had that one written down.
20:49
I didn't use it. I had the Beverly Hillbillies written down. I didn't use it. I had a whole bunch of em that I didn't use but then I had a couple of em that I did use and they surprised me and I am not Isaiah. I am I don't typically think of myself as being a prophet.
21:05
So, I had not considered what I would say for the first two songs that I mentioned. I had not even considered. They didn't even make my list but I got up there. Good gracious. I get nervous when I play music in front of y'all.
21:20
When I sing, do, really. But I started off and the first thing that came out of my mouth was something that surprised me like I said and but y'all finished it. You knew exactly what I was saying to you. I started the first line. So, I said,
21:57
Speaker 2if I leave here tomorrow and y'all said, would you still remember me?
22:07
Speaker 1And y'all know that that's Freebird, right? Sorry, just sang that in church. Yes. At the fair, it might have been okay. I I I debated whether I do this in the second service especially if I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?
22:21
Open line for Freebirds. Freebirds are great song. I've loved it. My whole life, I've loved it. I inherited my musical taste from one of my uncles who when he became a Christian, he started listening to just Christian music and he had a painful association with all the other music.
22:36
So, he gave it to me. I had no painful association with that music whatsoever. I wasn't in the bars at five years old, you know. I wasn't doing anything like that but I got this music and it's good music. Now, this one is a universal sort of an anthem for someone who has something that they don't want to have.
22:53
They want their freedom more than they want what it is they have and what he had was a sweet love. He says so, babe, bye, bye. It's been a sweet love. I'm leaving. I gotta be a free bird.
23:03
Gotta go. He has something that he doesn't want and so he goes on in search of his freedom. That's the first song I did and as I analyzed, I do the Monday morning, Monday morning quarterback in big time about the sermon sometimes and I I was doing that and go, I can't believe I did that. I just mentioned those. But as I thought about free bird and then the next one oh, boy.
23:29
Speaker 2Oh, sorry. Somewhere the rainbow, way there's a land that I heard of once in
23:43
Speaker 1a lullaby. So, that song, all I did was hit two notes and that one I said, somewhere and y'all all joined in. No doubt about it. You knew the song. You knew what it was about.
23:54
You probably sang it at some point this week. You were singing. You were thinking about it and so that's the point, right? That song was written in 1939 by two Jewish composers. 1939.
24:07
Jewish composers from out of Germany. It's right when Hitler's taken over Poland and somewhere over the rainbow was this dreamy dreamscape, not even they weren't even thinking would even be possible and nine years later, Israel has its own state again. Ain't that something? Somewhere over the rainbow is about somebody who doesn't have something that they are seeking but sees it as being so far away from what is possible. It's over the rainbow.
24:35
It's out of reach. It never mentions God. Never goes that direction. It ends with a question. If what is it?
24:42
If happy little bluebirds fly above the rainbow, why why can't I? Oh, this is about somebody who doesn't have something that they do want. Free bird does have something that they don't want. And then oh my goodness.
25:01
Speaker 2I won't go on with that one.
25:02
Speaker 1Yeah. So that one that one is I can't get no satisfaction. Rolling stones. Right? And so I can't get no satisfaction.
25:12
I can't get away from the chord either. So that one is just blatant over and outright. He's just saying, I've tried and I've tried and I've tried and I've tried but I can't get no satisfaction. I can't get satisfaction because it doesn't exist under the sun, under the rainbow, over the rainbow points that there's something out there, free bird, he wants to fly high, oh free bird, yeah, and then a seven minute guitar solo, right? It's longing and to the point of being anxious about the longing for something that is not right now and I think that's one of the reasons we remember the song.
25:45
They resonate with our humanity. So, those three songs last week, I really, honestly, I've got a whole list of ones I was going to sing but those are the ones that came out and so I examined them all week and I had to subject you to it too. This is part of the text from last week. Hebrews 10 to 12. I won't read all of it.
26:05
This last little part down here says, I will proclaim your name to my brethren in the midst of the assembly or congregation. I will sing your praise. This is about Jesus. I will proclaim your name God to my brothers and sisters. Everyone who has believed in Christ has the right to be called children of God and in the midst of the congregation, I will sing your praise.
26:34
Now, that is from Psalm 22. I mentioned that last week. In Psalm 22 is the Psalm of the cross. A thousand years before the crucifixion. A thousand years.
26:45
He writes this, the the Psalmist writes this, Psalm of David, Psalm of the Cross. He writes, I will tell of your name to my brethren and in the midst of the assembly, I will praise you but what I was saying with the songs last week is all I have to do is sing a little bit of a song and you know exactly where I'm going with it. So, Isaiah is mentioning, I mean, the the writer of Hebrews is mentioning David, thousand years before the crucifixion and he also is mentioning Isaiah. All of it is pointing to Jesus. The Psalm of the cross.
27:23
Haven't been written a thousand years before before crucifixion is even a thing. Before that's a way of killing someone, punishing someone. He says, they pierced my hands and my feet. It's amazing. Lord has given me a strong warning.
27:41
This is Isaiah. This is the part that I read through really quickly last week and I stopped. I stopped at the end of chapter eight but I'm not going to stop there today. I'm going to stop after I hit the first few verses of nine. Isaiah eight and nine.
27:54
I'm using the New Living Translation of the Bible. It's a good translation. It is easier to understand than any of the other translations in our native tongue and I don't have to explain as much. The Lord has given me a strong warning. This is Isaiah speaking.
28:11
The Lord has given me a strong warning about seven twenty, seven thirties BC. The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. If you're a believer in God, don't think like everyone else does. You walk by faith and not by sight. The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does.
28:36
He said and this is going to be Isaiah quoting almighty God. Don't call everything a conspiracy. It's not all political. It's not all a conspiracy. Actually, Isaiah's message of judgment and hope, he's very specific about the judgment.
28:51
He says, the Assyrians are coming and they are going to chop down the tree that is Israel and then after them, the Babylonians are coming. They're going to burn the stump, okay? That's what he's been saying. Chapters one through 12 are judgment and hope, judgment, and hope. The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does.
29:11
He said, don't call everything a conspiracy. It's not because y'all's political system is flawed or anything else. This is judgement and it's from me. Don't call it a conspiracy like everyone else does. Oh, if only we've done this.
29:24
Maybe we need to make an alliance with so and so. Maybe we need political strength from getting together with this one or that one. Maybe we should call on these other bad guys to, no, no, no. He says, don't call it a conspiracy like it like everybody else does. It's coming.
29:37
It's judgment and it's coming and it's deserved because this is old testament. This is the old covenant. If you will be my people, I will be your God but when you turn away, oh my goodness, he said, last week, he said, I have turned my face away from Jacob because they had turned their backs on him. The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, don't call everything a conspiracy.
29:59
It's not all political. Like they do and don't live in the dread of what frightens them. Oh my goodness. Fearmongers have existed forever. Don't live in the dread of what frightens them.
30:12
Everybody who's trying to tell you everything that you must be afraid of. You don't have to live according to what they live according to. Make the Lord of heaven's armies holy in your life. Oh, yes. If God is almighty, do you want to be on his side?
30:31
Yeah. Then, make the Lord of heaven's armies holy in your life. Consecrate him as different from all else and your lord. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble.
30:45
Almighty, if almighty doesn't give you some pause, then you don't understand the word almighty. He is all powerful. Why would you set yourself up against him? Make the Lord of heaven's armies holy in your life. He's the one you should fear.
31:00
He's the one who should make you tremble and he will keep you safe. He will. Look to him. Lean not on your own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path. But to Israel and to Judah, these are the kingdoms at that time.
31:16
To Israel and to Judah, he will be a stone that makes people stumble. Christ hadn't called him Christ yet, hadn't said that yet in the book of Hebrews, hadn't said that yet, doesn't say Messiah all the way through the whole of the book of Isaiah. 66 chapters and he never calls him Messiah. He talks about him the whole time. He calls him the holy one of Israel or the Lord of heaven's armies.
31:40
The son, he calls him that multiple times but he doesn't ever go to Messiah but Israel and Jordan, he will be a stone that makes people stumble and a rock that makes them fall. Now, I would kind of prefer that H to be capitalized and that R to be capitalized because it's speaking of Jesus but the New Living Translation just has chosen not to capitalize the names and pronounce for God. And for the people of Jerusalem, he will be a trap and a snare. In Isaiah's picture of judgement, he has Old Jerusalem and New Jerusalem. Old Jerusalem and New Jerusalem and he says, for the people of Old Jerusalem, he will be a trap and a snare because they're stuck in a paradigm that they didn't understand completely but they're going to stick with it anyway.
32:22
The author of Hebrews is calling back to this and saying, don't go back to that old system. It was pointing towards the cross. It was pointing towards there is a redeemer, Jesus, God's own son. Pay attention to this. He'll be a trap and he'll be a snare.
32:40
Either he's going to be a fragrant aroma growing and going up and being sweet or he's going to be the stench of death because it's a divine line for all of history. Many will stumble and fall and they will stumble and fall in a way that they will never rise again. That depends on whether or not you put your faith in Christ. Put your faith in Jesus or the sins that trip you up and having a way out. Jesus is the way, the truth, the life but if you don't trust Jesus to deal with sin, you have to deal with yourself and that means eternal separation from God.
33:15
Many will stumble and they will never rise again. They'll be snared and they'll be captured straight up imperative right here. Preserve the teaching of God. Preserve the instruction Torah of God. Entrust his instructions to those who follow me.
33:34
So, God is speaking Isaiah is delivering the message. Preserve the teaching of God, he says and it's and entrust his instruction to those who follow after me. Stick to what it says. Don't add to it. Don't take away from it.
33:58
Pay closer attention though. He said that at the beginning last last week and the week before that, it says, for that very reason, we need to pay closer attention to that which we have already heard. Examine the scriptures and the writer or writers of Hebrews has been paying close attention to the scriptures. Here's where we get to our quote from last week that brought me down this song path right here. I will wait upon the Lord.
34:24
I'll wait for the Lord who has turned away from the descendants of Jacob. Like I said, it was old covenant and they had turned away from him. We saw that cycle go over and over and over in the Old Testament. We saw the law and the testimony. So, the law was this, you be my people and I will be your God and then the testimony showed that we'll do that for a while and then we're forget about you when things are going pretty well and then we're going to turn our backs on you and God would lovingly turn his face away to bring them back.
34:52
I'll wait for the Lord who's turned his face away from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my hope in him. Now, the writer of Hebrews says in Hebrews two thirteen and again, I will put my trust in him or I'll put my hope, my belief. I will put my trust in him. The next verse, 18 in Isaiah says, I and the children the Lord has given me.
35:13
So, it's not just, I will put my hope in him. Christ saying, I will put my hope continually in God the father. I will continually do that but he says, not just me but I and the children whom the Lord has given me. Now, at the time, people who read Isaiah believe that if Isaiah was speaking first person and he was saying, I'm going to put my trust in God and Isaiah did do that and he had children. He had a couple children and they did put their trust in God too.
35:41
So, he says, I and the children the Lord has given me serve as signs and warnings. So, it's perfectly reasonable to think that Isaiah and his children since they had names that made sense with the coming judgment and hope. That's a longer story. I and the children the Lord has given me serve as signs and warnings and they did. In Isaiah's time, seven hundred something years before Christ, they did serve as signs and warnings but the writer of Hebrews, divinely inspired, goes back and draws this parallel between not just the life of Isaiah but he was speaking from God.
36:21
The Christ had inspired this. I will continually put my hope in him. Remember in second Peter where he says, and he kept on entrusting himself to his faithful God.
36:33
Speaker 2All the
36:33
Speaker 1way to the cross. Hebrews and Philippians and all over the place. We see the obedience, the obedience of righteous living, having no sin debt, and getting to the place of being able to choose voluntarily to go to the cross, to exchange sacrificially his perfect record for all those who would believe in him. That's how they have the right to be called children of God. So, Christ continually entrusting himself to God and the children the Lord has given me.
37:06
We all, even today, service signs and warnings. To Israel, from the Lord of heaven's armies who dwells in his temple on Mount Zion. So, that's Hebrews two thirteen. Behold, I and the children whom God has given me and it's only a line but all you need is somewhere, right? You'll go there.
37:27
Now, someone may say to you, let's ask the mediums and pundits. Let's ask the mediums, alright? Let's ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead, let's with their whisperings and their mutterings, they'll tell us what to do. If you don't think that that is a normal thinking, it is. Oh my goodness.
37:47
Stop. Culturally speaking, Florine went to a certain place y'all probably wouldn't have but do you think that people want to control their future and they'll use any means to do that? There are tarot readings that happen right here all the time, not right here all the time but they happen here in this community all the time. The horoscopes in the paper every single day, every day and there are people that are reasonable people that flip over and see what's going to happen today in the horoscope. Let's, some might say to you, let's ask the mediums.
38:25
And those who consult the spirits of dead with their whisperings and their mutterings, they'll tell us what to do. Well, absolutely, they'll tell you what to do. Bring your money. Fear this, fear that, avoid this, avoid that. But shouldn't people ask God for guidance?
38:43
Amen. He's almighty God. Who are these other spirits? Shouldn't the living seek God or should the living seek guidance from the dead? No.
38:55
We should seek after God. Isaiah's message of judgement and of hope. Judgement is when you do things just like the world and you think about things just like the world does but hope comes when you bow and then eat to God. Look to God's instructions. Look to Torah and testimony.
39:13
Look to God's law and testimony is the way this is translated in the New American Standard. Look to God's instructions and his teachings. Look to that. See what it says. Go back.
39:25
Don't add to it. Don't take away from it. Just see what it says. Examine what you have heard more closely. Hebrews would say, people who contradict his word are completely in the dark.
39:36
They may sound smart and they may have all kinds of degrees. I'm not an anti intellectual at all but if they contradict his word, they're completely in the dark. They will go from one place to another weary and hungry. Right? Can't get no satisfaction.
39:58
And because they are hungry, because they're hungry, they will rage and they will curse their king and their God. God is almighty and he is the king whether they bow the knee or not. Because they're hungry, they will rage and they'll curse their king and their God and they will look up to heaven and down at the earth and wherever they look, they will be trouble and anguish and dark despair and after that, they will be thrown out into the darkness. That is a sad, sad, sad grouping of verses right there. Three verses, a lot has but nevertheless, I love this and and Isaiah, when you get a judgment, judgment, judgment, Assyria is going to chop down the tree that is Israel.
40:44
Babylon's going to come in after that and burn the stump and take everybody away in exile and when he was saying that in the seven hundreds, seven twenty, seven thirty somewhere in there. When he starts saying that, it was 530 before that exile happened. He's ahead of game by one hundred and fifty years at least. Maybe two closer to 200 and he said it and it happened and it was just like he said it was going to happen but look at the nevertheless, it's a but day. It's but or nevertheless, however, when you see this adversative conjunction right there, it says, oh but there's hope.
41:21
Praise God. Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. Isaiah is talking about Assyria is coming and they're going to whip us and there's no doubt about it. In fact, he says, the land of Zebulon and Naftali will be humbled and this is listed in the Jewish Bibles as at in in their time, the Septuagint list. This is Isaiah eight twenty three.
41:42
So, it goes uninterrupted from this. There will be trouble and anguish and dark despair. They will be thrown out into the darkness. Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. It's talking about the oncoming Assyrian onslaught and the Babylonian one thereafter.
41:59
The land of Zebulon and Naftali will be humbled. Now, this is a map of Old Testament times about 1,200 or so just because that was the easiest one to see all this. This is the way they divided up the land among the tribes of Israel. That's not a great picture of that far out but this is the upper portion, the northern portion of Israel. You see Asher and Naftali, Zebulon, Issachar, Bassan, and Manasseh is down below.
42:26
Zebulon and Naftali are right there. This is the land of Zebulon and Naftali. If you know anything about modern geography, that would be interesting to you but this is Isaiah writing this at seven hundred and thirty years, seven twenty, I think. Before the cross and he says, Zebulon and Naftali are going to be humbled and in fact, they were. When the Assyrians came along not long after that, they whipped them horribly.
42:54
Babylon came in and because they were trying to make pacts and agreements with all of these other nations and they were thinking, oh, the Assyrians, we we barely by repenting, I got out of that Assyrian onslaught. So, he comes in. He shows the Babylonians all the goods and all the treasures. Oh my goodness. Isaiah saw that happen and thought, that was stupid.
43:14
That was just stupid. Babylon is going to come back. They're going to plunder this spoil and they're going to take you into exile. He says that. Maybe I've gone too far.
43:23
Nevertheless, the time of darkness and the sparrow not going forever. The land Of Zebulon, Naftali will be humbled and the Assyrians came through and where do you think they entered? Land Of Naftali. Where did they go through? Zebulon.
43:33
And they whipped them. They stomped a mud hole in Northern Israel and walked it dry, alright? So, right there, the Assyrians come through and they were severely humble another adversity of conjunction right there but there will be a time in the future. So, he's saying, judgement, judgement, judgement, judgement but there will be a time in the future when what? Galilee of the Gentile.
44:03
If you don't know where that is, he tells us which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea will be filled with glory. Amen. I superimposed New Testament map over an Old Testament map right here and if you look, right there and you see in the lands of Naphtali and Zebulon, You see a couple of cities. There's one right there and right there. One's in Zebulon.
44:25
One's in Naftali. Zebulon is where Nazareth is. That's Jesus's home. His boyhood home. And Capernaum is his main center of operations.
44:38
Lands of Zebulon, Naftali, though they got their tails kicked by the Assyrians and then again after that with the Babylonians. Jesus was brought up in those two and as the text says, they will be filled with glory. Amen. It's all about Jesus. Everything before him was pointing to him.
44:57
Everything since then should be pointing back at it and if it doesn't, then, they're completely in the dark as Isaiah says. So, I'm going to go forward. So, that actually eight twenty three is not eight twenty three in your Bibles. It's nine one but those divisions and chapter headings are not divinely inspired. They're just to help us look stuff up, okay?
45:19
So, when they started singing that song, I will put my trust in him and I and the children you have given me, they start singing it and they keep singing it because you don't stop. Just right there. You keep going. The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. I would capitalize that L.
45:35
They will see Jesus. The people, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. That's Jesus. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, literally, taking it says, for those who live where the shadow of where the where death cast a long shadow, where death casts a long shadow.
46:03
For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. You will enlarge the nation of Israel. Isaiah speaking divinely, inspired by God. You, Jesus, will enlarge the nation of Israel. Israel was always supposed to be a light for the nation.
46:19
They were always supposed to be telling of goodness and glory of God yet they hoarded the blessing and it did not expand to the ends of the earth as it was supposed to but with Jesus, it will. You will enlarge the nation of Israel and its people will rejoice and they will rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest. Didn't that a good time? All of the work, all of the work that goes into that and then, it's harvest. And like warriors dividing the plunder.
46:50
Oh, the battle is over and there is a reward. For you will break the yoke of their slavery. Slavery to sin. Oh my goodness. You're breaking the yoke.
47:00
There's slavery and you will lift the heavy burden from their shoulders. Didn't Jesus say, take my yoke upon you from my burden of light. I am going to handle sin. Cleansed of it, be of sin the double cure. Save from wrath but make me pure, transforming power of Jesus's blood.
47:21
I'll lift the heavy burden off of their shoulders. You will break the oppressor's rod. Just as you did when you destroyed the army of men and the Lord of heaven's armies has been active throughout all human history, all the time. The boots of the warrior and the uniforms blood stained by war will all be burned. They will be fuel for the fire because we ain't going study war no more.
47:46
Boots of the warrior, the uniform blood stained by war will all be burned. They'll be fuel for the fire. For unto us, a child is born. Is it Christmas already? For unto us, a child is born, a son is given to us, and the government will rest on his shoulders, and he will be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, and prince of peace or if you prefer, wonderful, comma, counselor, comma, mighty God, everlasting father, prince of peace, and then the last verse we have up here today is this one from Isaiah.
48:24
His government and its peace will never end. Now, have we ever seen a time where world peace has happened? Not yet and a lot of beauty queens working on it for a long time but world peace has not happened. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity.
48:48
We know this is point to Jesus. The passionate commitment of the Lord of heaven's armies will make this happen. Now, the kingdom of God is coming. It is future and it's coming. It's being forecast from a thousand years before, from seven hundred years before, from five hundred years before.
49:03
It's still being forecast as coming but it's also now. You can submit your will to the will of God except the provision that he's made in Jesus and be a part of the kingdom and he will rule in your heart. If you will subject yourself to him, his government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of heaven's armies will make this happen.
49:31
Now, I'm just going to go through one verse of Hebrews. I I Jesus wept is the shortest sermon I've ever preached but we're going one verse of Hebrews three. We're going to start it. We'll get to Jesus being better than Moses next week. And so dear brothers and sisters, those of you who belong to God.
49:50
Now, he was writing or the right writer of Hebrews, the author of Hebrews or the authors of Hebrews were writing to people who professed Christ. They professed to be Christians to believe but they were being tempted from all societal pressure to go back to old covenant instead of going with the new covenant and if you think, well, I know exactly what this means, exactly what I gotta do so I can hit what I can aim at. No, you can't. The whole rest of the New Testament tells you, you can't. It was just to show you why you needed Jesus, why you needed a savior, a new covenant.
50:25
You needed innocence when all you had was culpability and guilt. And so dear brothers and sisters, the writer of Hebrews said, who belong to God and those who are partners with those called to heaven, think carefully about Jesus. Consider him. Now, earlier in the last chapter, the first part of the last chapter says, for this very reason, you should pay more attention to the scriptures. What you've already heard.
50:51
In the beginning of this chapter, it says, think carefully about Jesus in the light of scripture. We must pay closer attention to what we've heard so that we do not drift away from it. Think carefully about Jesus. Set your mind on him. There is a redeemer.
51:07
Set your mind on him. Now, I'm going to skip again like I did the first service like the next five verses and go to the imperatives from today's text. So, how to end this? This is application points right here. Each of these are imperatives that we have covered in Isaiah eight, Isaiah nine, or in the first six verses of Hebrews, get ahead for next week, okay?
51:28
Imperatives from today's text are make Jesus holy in your life. He is holy. Make him holy in your life. He is almighty God who has been in skin and he knows what it's like. You've been tempted every way that you've been tempted yet he was without sin.
51:45
Go to him. Make Jesus holy in your life. He is the one that you should fear. He came in grace seeking to save those who are lost. He is coming back in judgement.
51:59
Stand amazed in his presence. We did that song in the first service. Tremble before him. Seek your safety in Christ. That's where safety is found.
52:10
In Christ alone. Wait upon the Lord and put your hope in him. Now, in the first service, I mentioned that to wait upon the Lord. Is that like, when's he going to get here? It's like checking your watch, sitting there, got your purse in your pocket, and you're just sitting there going, when's it going to be?
52:25
It's more like a waiter or waitress waiting on someone at a table. Anticipating, looking for how I I might be of service to you, oh God. I want to do what you want for me to do. It's both things. There is a temporal sort of thing but waiting on the Lord is waiting like you would wait on the table.
52:47
It is. I want to be, I want for your next need to be what I'm doing when it's the right time. Can I help? Show me the way. Just let me know if there's anything I need to do.
53:01
But I'll be waiting on you until then. I'm standing back waiting for direction. Wait upon the Lord and put your hope in him. Preserve the teaching of God. Don't add to it.
53:13
Don't take away from it. Trust him. Entrust his instructions to those who follow you. Y'all are parents and grandparents in here. A lot of you have folks who are following after you.
53:24
You may have mentees. You might be a mentor and have a mentee and whoever's following after you, don't just entrust the way you do your business but the way you live your life. In accordance with God's word, preserve the teaching of God, entrust his instructions to those who follow you. Think carefully about Jesus. That's the last thing I hit right there.
53:43
These next ones are freebies for next week. Give him glory. Please, give him glory. He deserves it and keep your courage. Don't think like the rest of the world thinks.
53:57
Keep your courage. Remain confident in your hope in Christ. The writer of Hebrews is saying, remain confident in this because as it says in other places in the New Testament, are you going to fear the one who can harm your body or the one who is in charge of souls. Remain confident in your hope in Christ. I think that's the last.
54:20
Y'all pray with me? God, I pray that you would give us the grace to be able to understand and apply even the most arcane of scriptural text. The more I studied this, the deeper it went this week, lord and I I appreciate the new found understanding. So, God, I pray that you would as we pay closer attention to what we already have heard and we think about this Jesus. I pray lord that you would show us like you did to the writer of Hebrews that you'd show us all of those places like you did on the road to Emmaus, Jesus, when you're walking and you told your disciples of all the things.
54:58
They were pertaining to you in the Old Testament. God, I pray that you would increase our understanding and lord that we'd be able to act on it, that we would wait upon you, that we'd serve you well. In Jesus name, amen. Would y'all stand? Florian, will you come up and do a little flourish?
55:15
We're going to play what a friend we have in Jesus. Scott, would you come on up? And If you make Jesus holy in your life, you have him as a friend and a brother. Amen. Go for Amen.
57:30
Who? Hey, man. That's the gypsy music we're looking for right there. But those who hope or put their trust in or wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. There is judgement but those who hope and put their trust in the Lord will renew their strength.
57:45
They will soar on wings like eagles. Free bird? Over the rainbow? They will soar on wings like eagles. It's not just along and they will run and they will not grow weary.
57:57
They will walk and they will not be faint. In Jesus name, lord, I pray that we would soar. Amen.
