Prayer on Fire #3 of 3 Contemporary

January 28, 2017 · Prayer on Fire

Scripture referenced 14 passages

The passage this message was preached from, in full, with every other passage it reached for.

  • Job 42 (end of Job) Amy quoted Job saying he had heard of God only by hearing of the ear, but now his eyes had seen Him

    1 Then Job answered Yahweh,

2 “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained.

3 You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’ therefore I have uttered that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I didn’t know.

4 You said, ‘Listen, now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you will answer me.’

5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you.

6 Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”

7 It was so, that after Yahweh had spoken these words to Job, Yahweh said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.

8 Now therefore, take to yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept him, that I not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.”

9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did what Yahweh commanded them, and Yahweh accepted Job.

10 Yahweh turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends. Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before.

11 Then came there to him all his brothers, and all his sisters, and all those who had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house. They comforted him, and consoled him concerning all the evil that Yahweh had brought on him. Everyone also gave him a piece of money, and everyone a ring of gold.

12 So Yahweh blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.

14 He called the name of the first, Jemimah; and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren Happuch.

15 In all the land were no women found so beautiful as the daughters of Job. Their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.

16 After this Job lived one hundred forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, to four generations.

17 So Job died, being old and full of days.

Luke 11

disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he gave the model beginning with Our Father in heaven

1 When he finished praying in a certain place, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.”

2 He said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4 Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’”

5 He said to them, “Which of you, if you go to a friend at midnight, and tell him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,

6 for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him,’

7 and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’?

8 I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs.

9 “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.

10 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he won’t give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?

12 Or if he asks for an egg, he won’t give him a scorpion, will he?

13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

14 He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the multitudes marveled.

15 But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.”

16 Others, testing him, sought from him a sign from heaven.

17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. A house divided against itself falls.

18 If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.

19 But if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore will they be your judges.

20 But if I by God’s finger cast out demons, then God’s Kingdom has come to you.

21 “When the strong man, fully armed, guards his own dwelling, his goods are safe.

22 But when someone stronger attacks him and overcomes him, he takes from him his whole armor in which he trusted, and divides his plunder.

23 “He that is not with me is against me. He who doesn’t gather with me scatters.

24 The unclean spirit, when he has gone out of the man, passes through dry places, seeking rest, and finding none, he says, ‘I will turn back to my house from which I came out.’

25 When he returns, he finds it swept and put in order.

26 Then he goes, and takes seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man becomes worse than the first.”

27 It came to pass, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the multitude lifted up her voice, and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts which nursed you!”

28 But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.”

29 When the multitudes were gathering together to him, he began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks after a sign. No sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah, the prophet.

30 For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will also the Son of Man be to this generation.

31 The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and will condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, one greater than Solomon is here.

32 The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, one greater than Jonah is here.

33 “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, that those who come in may see the light.

34 The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness.

35 Therefore see whether the light that is in you isn’t darkness.

36 If therefore your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly full of light, as when the lamp with its bright shining gives you light.”

37 Now as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him to dine with him. He went in, and sat at the table.

38 When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed himself before dinner.

39 The Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness.

40 You foolish ones, didn’t he who made the outside make the inside also?

41 But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you.

42 But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but you bypass justice and God’s love. You ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.

43 Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues, and the greetings in the marketplaces.

44 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like hidden graves, and the men who walk over them don’t know it.”

45 One of the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying this you insult us also.”

46 He said, “Woe to you lawyers also! For you load men with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won’t even lift one finger to help carry those burdens.

47 Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.

48 So you testify and consent to the works of your fathers. For they killed them, and you build…

Recap

The message in order, in a few minutes of reading.

Don Young closed out First B's Prayer on Fire weekend with a message on the love of the Father. He traced the damage done when that love is missing, named the "orphan spirit" as the thief that steals it, and led the congregation in practical declarations and a time of receiving that love. It was the final session of a weekend that had also covered hunger for God, the manifest presence of Christ, forgiveness, and blessing.

What was said

Don opened with a story about his own children. His sons accused him of loving their sister Shelly more than them, because whenever she came to him she led with "Daddy, I love you," and she always received what she asked for. The boys eventually figured it out, crept in behind her, and two days later came in and said the same thing. Don used this to frame everything that followed: the love of the Father is real and lavish, but we have to understand the relationship we are in to receive it.

He described what he and the College of Prayer have found over seventeen years and across 44 countries. In India, in Africa, across Asia Pacific, the same thing kept happening. When Don taught on the Father's love, faces went blank, rooms went quiet, and afterward pastors would explain that they had grown up without knowing their earthly fathers, or knowing only condemnation and rejection from them. Without that foundation, the idea of a Heavenly Father who pours out love is simply hard to hold on to.

That gap, he said, is where the orphan spirit moves in. He walked through a comparative list he had put in the bulletin: where the Father's love produces freedom, acceptance, abundance, healing, honor, and assurance of salvation, the orphan spirit produces fear, rejection, poverty, wounds, abuse, and insecurity. He was direct that the enemy's goal is to keep people locked inside that second column, and that the orphan spirit's voice is the one that says, "See, the Father doesn't love you, or you wouldn't be in this pit."

Don then turned to the Lord's Prayer as evidence of how central this is. He pointed to Luke 11, where the disciples ask Jesus to teach them to pray, and to the fact that Jesus begins his model with "Our Father." Don's argument was straightforward: all prayer flows out of relationship with the Father, and if you don't understand his love for you, starting there is nearly impossible. Prayer and the Father's love are not separate subjects.

He gave five ways to actively live in that love. The first is to receive it every morning, declaring it at the start of the day. The second is to begin every personal and corporate prayer time the same way. The third is to declare it especially during hard times and spiritual attack, returning to Romans 8 that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. The fourth is to declare it in the middle of life's battles, refusing the lie that suffering is proof the Father has abandoned you. The fifth is to declare it after victories, giving the praise back to God because, as Proverbs says, victory belongs to the Lord.

Don closed by leading the room in a spoken declaration, hands open, submitting spirit, soul, and body to God, claiming the spirit of adoption, and receiving the assurance of salvation as children of God. He had the worship team come forward so the congregation could move straight from that declaration into song. His parting point was the same one he had been building toward all morning: if you understand how much the Father loves you, it changes everything, how you pray, how you relate to people, how you face the pit you may be in right now.

Doing a Bible study?

Here is a guide we have prepared for you: the passages in order, questions for the group, and room to write.

  1. Don told a story about his daughter Shelly, and how his sons eventually learned that love came before asking. What does that story say to you about how you approach your heavenly Father in prayer?
  2. Don described pastors in India and Africa who had never experienced the love of an earthly father and found it hard to understand God's love as a result. How has your own experience with your earthly father shaped the way you see God?

and 3 more questions in the guide

0:00 Hey,
0:05 glad y'all are here. We are we are finishing up what what we were calling the prayer on fire weekend. So, Don Young is here with us and he's going to preach today. This is the this is the band that has been playing this weekend, Friday night, Saturday morning and so, would you stand with us and Amy probably has a scripture.
0:27 I do.
0:28 You do. You always do. Would you stand with us and she's going to lead off with that and then we'll praise the Lord together.
0:34 Morning. Welcome. It's good to see your faces. This morning, the Lord had me in one of my favorite scriptures in Job, the end of Job. And I so love it because God's heart is that we see him for who he is.
0:52 Not that we just hear about him. He wants us to see him. He wants us to hear him with our own ears and with our own heart. And that's what I love about Job is that, you know, he may have lost everything, everything, But at the end, he was like, Oh, God, this is what he said, I had heard of you only by hearing of the ear, but now my eyes have seen you, my spiritual eyes, it says in the Amplified. At the end, that was all that mattered.
1:22 Everything else could be stripped away, and he was like, It was worth all of it because now I see you for who you really are. And that's what I pray this morning. I just feel like he so wants us. No matter where we are, whether we're on a mountaintop or whether we're in the the lowest pit, whether we know the Lord just by hearing and we don't even know him personally or we have walked with him for eighty years. This morning, God wants us to meet him in a new way where we can say again, oh, I have seen you.
1:54 I have seen you today. So, let's just this song is familiar probably to most of you and let's just sing it out but sing it with your heart as well. Just say, lord, I want to see you this morning.
2:19 From from the colors of fall to the fragrance of free creature unique in the song at it sun and give source to its light yet conceals it to bring us the coolness amazing and you know them by you are amazing God how
5:31 sing indescribable one more time Indescribable,
5:36 uncontainable. You place the stars in the sky and you know them by name. You are amazing God. Powerful untamable lost rock we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim you are amazing God sing incomparable incomparable unchangeable you see the depths of you are amazing God you are amazing
6:51 That's that's great. Lovely. We were just sick. Y'all can have a seat. Oh, no.
7:01 That's a big bang to start off the announcements. We pray for the flow of worship. Pastor ties a guitar on his foot and then throws it off the stage. Alright. We have a few announcements this morning.
7:13 Connect hour happens between services. It's down the hall, in the fellowship hall, and there's coffee and sweets and goodness down there, fruits and vegetables too. Vegetables. Anyway, there's good stuff down the hall and it's a good way to meet the folks who are in the next service or just to hang out for a little while. Monday nights at first b happens on Monday nights right here at first b but also down the hall.
7:36 Carl will be preaching out of the book of Luke going forward in Luke. He's up to about Luke seven right now and that's fun meal, music, and a message every Monday night. Oh, gracious.
7:53 Hi. My name is Rinsey Reno. I'm from
7:55 Jackson, Wyoming, and I'm here to audition. And just for you all, I've written my own song. You wouldn't. Where do you sing? I don't know.
8:19 Like, pretty much everywhere. Come on.
8:22 And I've even been told that I'm so good.
8:24 By who?
8:24 I don't know. Like, Ray McDaniel.
8:26 Okay. Well, how Someone's just lost his job.
8:30 Well, I can't control that. So well, what'd you think?
8:33 It was painful. I couldn't recognize the song. Not a single person on planet Earth who would ever pay to hear you sing.
8:45 Agree to disagree.
8:46 There was absolutely nothing redeeming in it
8:50 other than the fact
8:51 that we stopped it early. So give it to me straight. It was honestly it was torture.
9:03 Oh gracious.
9:23 Bad news is we're running out of time. The good news is I'm the only one who's gonna be talking, and I think words are unnecessary, but I wanna give you a standing ovation.
9:36 Enough said. February 11, talent show right here in this room, February 11, talent show at first B. Alright. There's a men's retreat coming up February 24 through the twenty sixth. It's a $100 to go.
9:49 That covers your meals and room, everything. If you want to rent a snowmobile, see Kyle Knutson, he's right there. And he has a sign up sheet and he'll be in the back. He's the one in the big mustache. All right.
10:01 The Truth Project. I think we're going to skip the video for the Truth Project, but it does start February 8, 06:30 p. M, Fellowship Hall. Gary Geek will be facilitating. If you have not been through that, it's a twelve week study.
10:16 They stand alone, you can come to any of them that you can come to, but they're really, really, really good. Trust me, it's a great, great thing, especially in today's world where truth is questioned at all. So it's good. Truth Project starts February 8630. That's not this Wednesday, but the next in the fellowship hall.
10:34 We do have a congregational meeting next week. It's in between services, so please plan on staying late for that, and other folks are gonna come early for that, and we'll just do the normal business meeting type thing that we have to do and there's plenty to praise God for. So, that's what we're gonna do next week between services. For everything else, check your bulletins. And is there anything else?
10:55 Do I hear objections? No. It's not the business meeting yet. Check your bulletins for all the other announcements. If you would, stand up and greet one another, and then Amy and Casey will blend their voices and bring you back together in song.
11:09 Okay. We're gonna start.
11:15 And I've heard a thousand stories of water.

22:39 You know, one time when I was going through a really hard place and I still love the Lord so much, but you're just like, oh, God. You're just holding on. And he said, you know, Amy, there's really nothing higher than this. Being mine, being my child is the highest it gets. And it may be hard, but it is so rich if you'll just walk it through till you get to that treasure that I'm giving you.
23:12 There's nothing higher. And sometimes I think we're looking for so many different things, and we forget we already have the riches of glory of Christ Jesus right here. So let's sing this together. There's nothing higher than this. There's nothing higher than this
23:35 to be called a child of God. God
24:11 there's
24:11 nothing higher than the call of one but loved by you Do you know of a realm beyond this where earthly wishes they vanish like a mist where things unseen become reality and things unknown are source of strength or this there's nothing higher than this to become a child there's nothing the call of one beloved by you Little did we know what it take to grow And all we had and all you'd ask yet grace to bounce when there's nothing else your love runs deep when the heart is free oh there's there's nothing higher than this but you become a child there's nothing to be called a child there's nothing the call of one but love by you sing holy one holy one almighty one to you alone
27:42 Let's just sing there's nothing higher than this one more time.
27:48 Thank you, lord. There's nothing higher than to become a child of God there's nothing higher than the call of one beloved by you
28:28 Before Don comes up to continue this prayer on fire weekend, I invite the frontline team to come forward. Would you pray with me? Lord, I pray that you would be more than words on a page. I pray that we would have a genuine experience with you. Lord, sound theology is really, really good.
28:55 I I pray that you would give us the experience an encounter as Don says with God. God, I pray also that you would bless and multiply the offerings that we're about to put in these plates, that you would do your kingdom's work, that you would take your good gospel to the ends of the earth. Would you use us as your obedient servants in all humility? We bow to you in Jesus name. Amen.
30:04 Just a just a glimpse of you on as the winds of time unfold it treasures buried in the Joy explodes within my soul
34:44 No
34:44 worthily
35:50 There's a lot in those words. And often we listen to words and we listen to music and we let it kind of go over us. But there's power in understanding that your heavenly father loves you more than anything else in the face of the earth. You are special to him. I want you to take your finger and point at your neighbor and say, you're special to him.
36:15 Dave Kaufman's still trying to find out who his neighbor is, but you are. You're special to him. It's so good to be with you. The we started Friday night prayer on fire. There are just a few books left on the table.
36:29 If you're interested, you can pick one up at the As you leave. They're just $10. But, we started Friday night talking about, the hunger for God. How important it is for us. Everything that God does in and through us flows out of our hunger for him.
36:44 If we're not hunger for him, then we're not gonna get anything from him. He just wants to pour in, so he wants our hunger. And then we moved into the manifest presence of Christ because everything that the the the College of Prayer is about, and we've been doing this for seventeen years now, is to encounter Christ. We're not a seminar based ministry. It's all about encounter.
37:03 Encountering the Lord, allowing him to do in us what he desires so much to do in us. And then yesterday morning was really powerful as we went through the power of forgiveness and then the power of blessing. So this morning we end with the power of love. And those of you that weren't able to be there, can pick up their they've recorded the teachings and you can get them and especially the one on the power of forgiveness. There's so much out there today that that we really need to understand that when we are forgiven by Him, we can walk in freedom in ways that we could never experience before.
37:38 Before I start, I want to tell you a story. Many of you know us, my wife and I, she wanted to be here. We start a conference next week. I go to Mexico and then we come back. We have this international conference in Atlanta.
37:48 And we're having about 50 international people come and 18 of them stay in our home. So she's there getting ready for that and wasn't able to come. But let me tell you a story before we launch into the lesson this morning. My wife and I, we have four children, and we have three boys and one girl. And when the children were growing up, my little daughter, Shelly, the boys would always say, you love her more than you love me.
38:14 You love Shelly more than you love us. I said, no, no. I don't love you more than I love Shelly. I love you all the same. No.
38:21 No. You don't. Because every time Shelly comes and asks you for something, you give it to her. We come in and see you. You say, well, maybe.
38:29 Let me think about it. We'll see. You never just give it to us. But her right away, you love her more than you love us. No, I don't.
38:39 So I I have an office at home and an office in our building. And so one morning, my daughter came in. Unbeknownst to us, the boys followed her. And they were hiding behind the door. And, my daughter came in, and she always does, and she says, daddy, I love you.
38:59 Daddy, I love you. Daddy, I love you. I said, honey, come here. Come here. Come here.
39:07 She said, daddy, I know you're busy. Daddy, I love you. Daddy, daddy, I know that you have a lot on your mind and and you don't have a lot of money. Daddy, I love you. And she would keep saying that, daddy, I love you.
39:23 I'd say, honey, come here. And when she would get right in front of me, I'd say, what is it you want, sweetheart? Daddy, I need a new dress. Not a problem. I'd reach in, give her the money.
39:32 Daddy, I love you. Well, the boys were watching this. Two days later, they come in, stand in front of me, inquire. Daddy, we love you. You see, they got it.
39:47 They understood that everything flows from love. And I want to tell you this morning that the father loves you and he wants to lavish that love on you. He desires that. That's his heart. And so many of us miss the love of the father.
40:03 We were teaching in India, and we we noticed that when we were talking about the love of the father, no one moved. No one said anything. Their faces were just ashen. And and so after the session was over, several of pastors came and said, do you know why we never moved? I said, no.
40:24 What happened? Because we don't understand the love of the Father. Many of us don't know who our fathers are and many of us have grown up in homes where there were several fathers and so we never received any love from our father. We only received condemnation. We only received rebuke.
40:42 We only received even sometimes a hate and rejection. So we don't know the love of the Father. So when you talk about the love of the Heavenly Father, it's hard for us to understand that because we don't understand the love of our earthly father. And we discovered that when we would go from country to country and we are now in 44 different countries and we have 2,150 campuses in those countries. And we discovered that almost every place that we go, that so many of these pastors and lay leaders don't understand the love of the father.
41:16 When you don't experience the love of your earthly father that you can see or even hear about, it's difficult to understand the love of your heavenly father who you don't see, but you experience. And so we began to teach in this and everywhere we go now and I never close any session no matter where I'm at without this teaching. And so we're doing it this morning. You have in your notes, we used to put everything on the screen but it got to be too seminar ish and I don't like seminars. We are not a seminar, we are an encounter.
41:47 I don't like and so everybody's watching and they would say oh that's a pretty picture. No, we want you to encounter Christ this morning not the screen. So I'm going to you have those verses though in your in your sheet. Let's look at them. Psalm 90 two:one, it is good to declare your steadfast love in the morning.
42:04 Jude 21, keep yourself in the love of God. John 59, as the father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. Second Corinthians chapter five verse 14, the love of Christ controls us. Romans eight fifteen, I love this.
42:25 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you've received the spirit of adoption as sons and as daughters by whom we cry we cry, Abba Father. And Abba Father is daddy, daddy, daddy. So you get the picture here that that your heavenly father loves you and and we are to live and walk in that love. I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you. John fourteen fifty.
42:55 And so, this morning, we're gonna talk a little bit about the difference between the love of God or the father's love and the orphan spirit. Because we have discovered almost every place we go, the orphan spirit comes into the church and robs people, robs their joy, kills their joy, destroys their joy, and doesn't help they don't understand the love of the father. And if you don't understand how much the father loves you, it's hard for you to understand what he wants to do and and what he wants to do through you. If we don't understand the love of the father. Everything really flows out of understand he loves.
43:26 It's almost like we go in, and I got this image one day where I I would go in and sit at the at on the chair. The heavenly father was on the chair and I would go and sit in there and he would say to me, son, I love you. You are my son. I'm well pleased. I love you.
43:47 You remember what happened when Jesus was baptized, don't you? The voice from the dove came down and what did the voice say? This is my son in the family in whom I love and I'm well pleased. And so, when we understand that God loves us and wants to bless us, it changes everything we do. It changes our focus.
44:08 It changes how we relate to people. It changes how we pray. It changes how we focus. And so, I I want us to go there this All of us need the love of God. We need the Father to heal our love receptors.
44:19 And so, we actually have people, hold their hands out like this and you'll do it at the end because we believe we receive the love of the Father. And so, the Lord has to ignite our love receptors because sometimes they're clogged up and we're not able to receive his love because we don't understand it. There's a blockage there. It keeps us from understanding and loving him and and so we want to see that go. Understanding the love of the father revolutionizes your prayer life.
44:42 Imagine trying to pray and not loving the father. The Lord's Prayer, the model that he gave. Jesus did everything by prayer. He did nothing apart from prayer. Everything that Jesus did, he did through prayer.
44:55 Nothing apart from that. And so when the disciples came to him in Luke chapter 11, they said, Jesus, teach us to pray. And and so he gave him this model of how to pray and you remember how it starts. All of us know. Our father in heaven.
45:08 It begins there. Our father, who art in heaven, all prayer flows out of relationship with your heavenly father. Now, I understand this. If you don't have a relationship with your heavenly father, if you don't understand his love for you, it's very difficult to start out saying, our father, who art in heaven, holy be your name. And so it's important for us to know the love of the father.
45:35 Colossians chapter three verse three, for you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. See, because we are in Christ, we are loved as Christ. It's important for you and I to understand that his love for us is so powerful. In fact, the Bible says that he lavishly pours out his love. In your mind, when you think of lavishly, what do you think of?
45:58 A little bit? Sninzy? No. He's not sninzy with his love and he doesn't give us a thimbleful. Lavishly means he keeps on pouring until it overflows.
46:09 That's what the word lavishly means. It keeps on until it overflows. It's never enough. It just keeps on coming, keeps on coming, keeps on coming. And that's the kind of love your heavenly father has for you.
46:21 He pours out that love lavishly. Because he desires for us a relationship. And it's not a relationship between a God who cannot hear and see and know and love. We're in so many countries that India, for one of them, is 330,000,000 gods. 330,000,000 of them.
46:43 And when you think of 330,000,000 gods, each one has their own little set of rules you have to follow. Each one has their own little set of things that you do to adore them. And I remember flying into this northern part of India, taking the train and then going to the southern part, and then taking another car for five hours to get to where we're going to go. And that whole place, the whole trip, on the five hour road trip, every so many miles, you would see these makeshift temples with the different priests coming out. And as they come out, they they would go through their chants.
47:16 And in their chants, they were mutilating their bodies and they were going through all kinds of contortion because they wanted to appease this statue that could not love, that could not respond, that could not speak. And so they were doing it all. They were mutilating themselves. And in one space, when I was in Calcutta, they were crawling on the ground, crawling on the ground. And this one man was crawling and the eye sockets were burned out because he was crawling with his head looking up and he would crawl, crawl, crawl and he was worshiping the sun God and the sun every day he did this and the sun just burned his eyes out.
47:54 Now, did it because he wanted to receive the love from a god who couldn't give him love. All of us want the father's love. All of us. And so we need to understand that the father loves us and he pours it out lavishly. Now, in your bulletin, you'll see one thing, but I I did ask him to put a little comparative chart so you can see that.
48:17 And I and I give you that so you can see the difference between the father's love and the orphan spirit. The father's love gives you freedom. The orphan spirit is fear. The father's love is acceptance. He loves you.
48:31 The orphan spirit is rejection. The father's love and blessing is abundance, lavishly. The orphan spirit is poverty. The father's blessing and love is healing. The orphan spirit is hurts, wounds, and pain.
48:46 You you're not going to get rid of the pain and hurt in your heart and your life. Do you understand the father's love? Because he desires to come in and take care of that pain. There's no way that we get rid of the pain and hurt in our life however deep that is without understanding the father's love. And the power of his love and understanding of his love and how much he lavishly wants to pour that into us is what helps us understand healing and our wounds are cared for.
49:13 The father's love and blessing is respect. The orphan spirit is abuse. The father's love is honor. The orphan spirit is dishonor. The father's love is blessing.
49:27 The orphan spirit is curse. The father loved the assurance of salvation. The orphan spirit is insecurity, fear of death. And so because the enemy wants to come and rob and steal and kill your joy and because he doesn't want you to understand the father's love, because he wants to keep you in your pain and your hurt, This morning, you need to receive the father's love. You need to understand that he loves you so much.
49:50 He doesn't want you to leave with the same pain and hurt you came with. He desires to care for that. That's what he does. That's what he desires and that's what he wants. I was teaching this in Asia Pacific and in Africa, in Africa especially, the orphan spirit is so real because in Africa, a child could have three or four different men living in a home.
50:20 And because of tribal issues, they may never know the love of their father. And so these pastors are growing up without understanding the love of the father. And when I began to to speak on the love of the father, I could could sense a tear in the room. And so we stopped. And I said, what is this this cloud I'm feeling here?
50:40 What is this tear that's there? What is it? They said the same thing I told you from the other country. We have never experienced the love of the father like you're talking about. We don't know what that is.
50:52 And so when you talk about it, our hearts begin to cringe and there's a sadness because we desperately want the love of the father. All of us desperately want the love of our father. How much more receiving the love of our heavenly father? How much more? What a difference it makes when we understand that.
51:18 And so, as we begin to go through that, we develop this and I'm going give you five ways that you can live and enjoy God's love. First of all, if you've listened to the lies that you're not loved, that's the orphan spirit. If you've entertained any thought in your life that God doesn't love you, he couldn't love you in your current situation, there's no way he possibly can, that's a lie from the pit of hell itself. It's the orphan spirit. He's coming to say, but father doesn't love you.
51:46 There's nothing by the way that you can do to merit his love. There's no checklist that you can do to to earn it and gain it. His love is given to you unconditional out of a heart of love and mercy and grace for you. So he wants to give it to you. Don't worry about not living up to it.
52:00 He's not giving it to you based on your merit or mind. We'd never receive it. He's giving it to you because he loves you. That's why. That's why it's unconditional.
52:10 That's why it's powerful. That's why the enemy doesn't want you to receive it. That's why the lying spirit says to you, you can't have it. If you feel as though God has been unkind to you and that you deserve better, that's the orphan spirit. If you're angry and resentful toward God, that's the orphan spirit.
52:30 If you feel as though you you have to work for everything you get in including answers to prayer and it doesn't seem to work, that's the orphan spirit. If you're uncertain about your own salvation, that's the orphan spirit because that spirit comes to rob and to kill and destroy your love. So when we understand that, we can defeat that in the name of Jesus. We don't have to listen to those lies. We don't have to be captive and held in bondage by this orphan spirit.
53:03 We can walk in freedom. Five ways quickly. The first one is to receive his love every morning. Lamentations chapter one verse 22, 23, many of you know it. The steadfast love of our lord never ceases.
53:16 Say it with me. The steadfast love of my lord never ceases. They're new every morning. Every morning they're new. So you wake up every morning, you declare, Lord, I receive your love today.
53:30 Thank you that you love me. And I love you. Imagine going into his office and saying, Abba, daddy, I love you. Imagine that. Start your morning that way.
53:42 Secondly, receive his love as the at the beginning at every personal prayer time, every corporate prayer gathering. My wife and I, we have what we call an upper room in our home. And we have two chairs, a little coffee table in the middle. And it's our custom because I'm going so much that when I'm there, start at 05:30 in the morning. Get up at 05:00, I have to give her six cups of coffee.
54:03 Once she's alive and well, then she can go from the bed to those chairs. So we're sitting there and we declare in the beginning as we listen to worship, we declare the love of the father on us. We receive that. We start that day. We start our day saying, father, I love you and I receive your love for me today.
54:24 In the circumstances that we have, the difficulties that's there, it doesn't matter, Lord, I love you. And we receive that. So we start that in all of our prayer times, we do that. Thirdly, declare and receive his love especially during hard times and spiritual attack. Let me give you Romans eight thirty eight thirty eight twenty eight and twenty nine.
54:42 You know it already. Neither death or life, angels or demons, present or future, power, height, or depth can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. Nothing can separate me from the love of Christ. I want you to say it with me. Nothing Nothing.
54:57 Can separate me
54:58 Separate me.
54:59 From the love of Christ. Nothing can. Nothing. Nothing. I've learned to say that in many, many languages because I love that.
55:08 I love that. There are few French Spanish here. French. Oh, yeah. I'll stop there.
55:19 Fourth, declare and receive his love when you face life's battles. Second Chronicles twenty twenty one, give thanks to the Lord again because his love endures forever. When we're in the midst of the battle, the enemy says to us, see, father doesn't love you. See, I told you. He didn't care about you.
55:41 If he cared about you, you wouldn't be going through this this battle. You wouldn't be in the pit. He doesn't love you. If he really loved you, would you be doing would you be feeling this way? No.
55:50 He doesn't love you. Where does that come from? That comes from the very pit of hell. That's the voice of the evil one. That's the orphan spirit trying to rob you of the love of the heavenly father.
56:00 So don't receive that. Don't accept that. Declare his love for you in the midst of the pit that you're in. Lord, I'm in this pit. I don't have time this morning to go through all the stories I could tell you.
56:11 I could go one after the other, the other, the other, the other and never repeat the same one. All over the world where people are in the pit, the pit, the pit, the pit. And the only way out of the pit, you have a choice. You stay in there and say, okay, I received this judgment upon me and I'm and I know that I'm not loved and I'm just going to suffer until I die and God's not here and I hate Him. That's a choice.
56:33 Or you can say, Father, thank you. I'm in this pit. But one thing I know from you is you're not going to leave me here. Your love takes me through. That's what He's promised.
56:44 Never to leave us in but to take us through. And there are reasons sometimes that we're in that pit and not only do we learn life lessons, but we grow deeper and deeper in love with the Lord. And he wants us to learn that and so he takes us through and so he says, it's okay. I'm taking you through this journey. Please understand I love you in this journey.
57:03 When you get to the other side, your love and understanding for me will be even greater. Declare it in the middle of your battle. Five. Declare his love following life's victories. Proverbs twenty one thirty one, victory belongs to the Lord.
57:19 Say it with me. Victory belongs to the Lord. See, that's where it belongs. And so we get back to him, we praise him, we say, Father, thank you. You have given me victory in this situation.
57:29 And when you go through those five little simple things, you will see your love grow deeper, deeper, deeper, and expand in powerful, powerful ways. Now, it's already my time's already up and they told me that there's a little circle here that will suck me up and I'll go down to the other side, to the little tunnel and I and the little tunnel and I'll end up there in the in the cafe. It wasn't here when I was here before. I never allowed that because I didn't care if I went overtime. But you guys are organized now and you got a clock and so you have this little thing here.
57:55 So in order for me not to go get sucked down and go in there, I'm going to end but we're going to do it this way we're going to make some declarations even if it's uncomfortable for you it's okay it's not uncomfortable for God so I just want you to enjoy what the heavenly father wants to give to you I want you to enjoy that. I don't want you to miss that. So if you run too quick and get your coffee you're going to miss that. So I'm going to have you stand with me and we're going to declare some things. We're going to submit ourselves to the Lord and so I just want you to put your hands out like this with me.
58:30 And the worship team can come so you can so you're ready to play it. We'll save at least a minute doing that. Alright. So say this with me. Father God.
58:40 I submit myself.
58:43 I submit myself.
58:44 Spirit, soul, and body.
58:46 Spirit, soul, and body.
58:47 Holy to you. Holy to you. I declare. I declare. The supremacy.
58:53 The supremacy. Supremacy of the Lord Jesus Christ Lord Jesus Christ over my life over all things.
59:00 And over all
59:00 things. Now, I want you to receive from Christ a spirit of his adoption right now. Loving Father right now, I receive your Holy Spirit of adoption, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I claim my inheritance as a child of God. I receive not only the fullness of your
59:28 salvation. Salvation. I receive not the fullness
59:32 I also receive the assurance of my salvation. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I'm a child of God. I'm loved. I'm blessed.
59:48 I'm forgiven. I'm forgiven. I'm adopted. With all the rights and privileges of a son.
59:54 With all the rights and
59:56 Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Amen.
1:00:05 Since you're still standing, let's just sing this one. Great are you lord. You are life.
1:00:13 You are love. You bring light to the darkness you are hope you restore every heart that is broken lungs so we pour out our praise we pour out our praise it's your breath so we pour out our praise you all the earth will shout your praise our hearts will cry these bones will sing
1:02:27 and
1:02:30 all the earth will shout your praise our hearts will cry these bones will sing your breath it's your breath so we pour
1:03:29 and now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy to the only God and savior be glory, majesty, power, and authority through Jesus Christ our lord. Before all ages now and forevermore. Amen.
1:03:45 Amen. Amen.
1:03:46 Thank you, Don.
