Speaker 1Well, morning, good morning, good morning. I just loved how Becca ended her teaching session last week. How many of you remember what a doxology is? Anybody? What is it?
0:18
This table, all raised their hand. Yay. What is it? Praise opening Yep. Version.
0:26
Yeah. It's just like a verse of praise or a song of praise. And Paul gave a doxology, a song of praise to the Lord in the last chapter. And I love how Becca gave her little doxology to beanie babies, to some band I never heard of, and to the goddess Artemis. So I love that because I thought, wow, isn't that just so indicative of us human beings?
0:54
We get so caught up in these fads, and we give all of our attention to it, and they come and they go. And I thought it was so interesting how she said, you know, the goddess Artemis, they had worshiped for hundreds of years, given everything to her. Where is she today? Lying in ruins. Do you know anybody that prays to Artemis?
1:16
And so I just wanted to encourage you that what you're doing today, this is not a fad. We are worshiping the eternal God. His word is eternal. And I just wanted to share some fun facts with you just to drive that point home. The New Yorker magazine, not exactly a Christian magazine, wrote this huge article about the Bible because they they just can't get their brain around how the Bible is the best selling book of the year every year.
1:52
Unbelievable. Woo hoo. And do you know how many years it's been? Over five hundred and fifty since the printing press was invented. Don't you find that just amazing?
2:04
That that Christianity is not a fad. It just keeps growing and growing and growing. And even we see we see on the news 21 precious men and those incredible sweet faces. And as the sword hits their throat, what was their last word on earth? It was Jesus.
2:28
Yeshua. Okay. That that's wow. That drives my faith home. In his book, More Than a Carpenter, Josh McDowell says, if the resurrection had not happened, obviously, the disciples would have known it.
2:48
They were there. I mean, if it wouldn't have happened, they would have known that Jesus was a lunatic or a liar. They would have gotten that. But they saw him. They walked with him.
3:01
They ate with him. They put their hand on those nail marks. Therefore, if the resurrection would not have happened, they would have died for a lie. But here's the catch, they would have known it was a lie. And Josh McDowell says, it's hard to find a group of men anywhere in history who would die for a lie if they know it's a lie.
3:24
I mean, isn't that the truth? That's crazy. And just, you know, in in our leaders' prayer meeting this morning, someone prayed and thanked God just for the privilege of coming together as sisters. Do you know what a privilege that is, guys? You know, in China, women can go to prison for doing what we're doing.
3:44
In Saudi Arabia, women huddle with their cell phone listening to Internet messages. They can't share it with anyone in their family. According to Open Doors, every single month in our present world, and these are just the incidences they know of, every month, think about this, it's more than one a day, three hundred and twenty two Christians are killed because they're a Christian. Two hundred and fourteen churches or Christian properties are destroyed because their owners are Christian, and 722 forms of violence every month are reported against Christians, whether it be in rape, abductions, or forced marriages. Wow.
4:30
Why do people do it? I love this book called I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, because I think it takes a lot of
4:39
Speaker 2faith to be an atheist.
4:41
Speaker 1The authors wrote, our faith in God is not a blind leap into the dark. Rather, it's a safe step into a well lit room where where there are a vast majority of people standing. So I just wanted to encourage you this morning. This isn't a fad. What we're doing is gonna last for all of eternity.
5:04
Our Lord Jesus is not gonna lie in ruin somewhere someday like Artemis. What we're doing is building our souls up and strengthening them for the rest of our eternal life. So there could be no better place for you than in the word of God. Alright. So if you wanna turn to Ephesians four, we're gonna start unpacking this incredible rich passage.
5:32
So Paul, in the first three chapters, he's laying down doctrine. He's saying it's super important that you know who you are. And who are you in Christ? You're accepted. You're loved.
5:46
You're forgiven. You're redeemed. And God gives you this grace gift to have a relationship with him, and he seeks you out. Not one of us would be here today on our own volition. The Holy Spirit draws us in because that that's what the Lord wants.
6:03
He wants to do life with us. He wants a relationship with us. And if you missed any of those three chapter teachings from Becca or I, they're on the website now. You can go back and listen to them. Or if you haven't spent time in your book, I would encourage you to do that.
6:21
Know who you are because now in chapter four, Paul starts the chapters the next three chapters on walking the walk. And ladies, we cannot walk the walk if we haven't laid the foundation from the first three chapters. We can't do it. And Paul says in chapter four, we're gonna go up to verse 16. He says, this is really a call for unity among God's people, and he's gonna teach us how to walk in order to be a unified group.
6:55
The Lord is all about unity. Man divides, but God unifies. God unifies. That's one of his main purposes for his church. And who is his church?
7:09
Anyone who follows him. And that's a point that I think Paul drives home in this this section here. Verse one, he says, therefore, I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life or some translations say to walk worthy of your calling. This is a personal verse, ladies. You have a calling, you have a calling, You have a calling, and I have a calling.
7:39
And Paul's saying, don't waste it. Don't waste a walk that is worthy of your calling for you have been called by God. You have been called by God Almighty. What a personal God. You know, the Islam religion teaches that you could never know God.
7:58
In our religion, the Lord says, you better believe you can know me. That's why I made you to know me. And it starts when you become a believer. Verse two, always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's fault because of your love.
8:18
Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. I love this because you know what Paul's saying? There are five virtues that's gonna lay a foundation to bring unity within the body of Christ. And what's really interesting about the five virtues he lays out, and I I unpack them a little bit different than Warren Risbee because that's just how it spoke to me, but these five virtues are progressive. They build upon one another.
8:58
And he says, if you will do this as a believer, empowered by the spirit, we can't do it in our own flesh. It's just counterintuitive to us to practice these five virtues I'm gonna share with you. But he says, if you will come to the Lord and ask for the power of the Holy Spirit to help you, you're gonna look so different from everything else the world sees. As a body of Christ, as followers of Christ, you're gonna be a powerful witness. John MacArthur says this about our world.
9:33
He says it's typical of our world and always has been that there is no unity. There's no peace. There's no real love. Where's the love and grace out in the world? Is it on Wall Street?
9:45
Is it with the politicians? Is it in our media? We are a divided group of people. We always have been throughout the history of mankind. From the moment of the fall of man, the Tower Of Babel scattered him everywhere, and it's nothing has really changed.
10:03
When our family lived in Europe for one year, we would cross over into a lot of countries and go to the museums, and I would just tell my husband, it's kinda depressing. Every country has such a history of war. I mean, Europe is just blood soaked, and Asia is no different. We have been a fighting, warring, dividing race since the beginning. But John MacArthur says, the point that Paul is trying to drive home is if in the midst of all this disunity and lack of peace, there is a community of people that can demonstrate love, do you think we're gonna get other people's attention?
10:53
Do you think they're gonna look at us and say, there's something very different going on there. There's something supernatural. Who forgives people? Who just gives for no reason? When my when my husband went to India, he said that the people in India kept saying to him, the people that had means, because there are millions of Indians starving, and no one looks at them.
11:23
They consider them dogs because they're in the group called the untouchables, the Dalits. And if you touch them, you're unclean. How awful. That is not a Judeo Christian worldview, is it? But it's a Hindu worldview.
11:39
And they kept saying to my husband, why did you come from America to help the dogs? Why are you here? It caught everybody's attention. They didn't understand these Americans that would want to give. Let's unpack the five traits because I think it's just such a good little acid test for us.
12:01
Like, can I just tell you I was challenged left and right with these? I was like, Lord, help me. Lord, have mercy on me. Oh, okay. Paul says it starts the walk starts with humility.
12:14
And I kind of combined humility and gentleness because a humble heart is manifested by a gentle spirit. You you can't have a gentle spirit if you haven't started with a humble heart, and that gentle spirit comes out in word or deed. Can you think of someone that you know who you consider humble? I bet if you have that person in mind, these are some of their character traits. They are not power hungry people.
12:50
They seek to help others. Their life is not all about them. And they're very appreciative and grateful people. And I have to tell you, last session, we did our study on gratefulness, 1,000 gifts, and I'm still writing my journal, you know, what I'm thankful for. It's amazing how that shifts your heart.
13:16
Let me tell you, if you're a child of God and you're an American, you could never come to the end of what your blessings are. You can never come to the end of what we have to be thankful for. And it's it's really rather humbling When I look at this list and I'm like, wow, Lord, why did you bless me so much to call me your daughter and then to let me live in a free country where I can cheer you and talk about you without fear? So if you're struggling with humbleness, start every day. Buy a cheap tablet from Smith's, just a couple Thanksgivings every day.
13:54
It's amazing how that shifts your heart. You know another hallmark of a humble person? They don't always have to be right. And they are not thin skinned people. They are not super defensive.
14:10
Do you have people in your life where you're kinda walking on eggshells, you're so scared, any little thing will set them off? Okay. That's not a mark of humility. But you know what is a mark of humility with defensiveness? I'm gonna defend my Lord.
14:27
Because when I do that, I am usually doing that at the risk of my reputation. And I don't care because he means more to me than what people say about me. And I think that's a big problem we see in America today. You know, social issues are you can't keep them out of the church, guys. You can't divide our culture from what we do in the church.
15:00
And because Christians won't speak the truth in love and they won't defend our Lord, we're losing our country. God, let it start with us. One soul can make a big difference. We're a lot of souls in here. Let it start with us saying to our children and our neighbors, well, you know, no, I can't agree with that because I think it goes against God's perfect ways for us.
15:27
I mean, we can engage in in kind of a fun way without jamming it down someone's face. A humble person doesn't do that. A humble person doesn't get their knickers in a knot for every little thing and get crazy with people, but they engage people. Amy, do you wanna show that picture, secretariat? I've I've shared this before, but it is what the New Testament word for humbleness is.
15:54
It in the New Testament, they would have pictured this very strong racehorse. Why? Because it's a symbol of strength under control. A humble person is a strong person. By the way, if you've not seen the movie Secretariat,
16:14
Speaker 2you've gotta see it. It is
16:16
Speaker 1a great movie. But I love that visual because this powerful horse, just full of muscles, how does he run his race? At the nudging and the guidance and the direction of that jockey. Now he could take off in his own direction, and what would happen? He wouldn't finish his race well, most likely hurt himself, and hurt others along the way.
16:42
And that's what Paul was talking about as a humble person. We run our race under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, directing us and nudging us, and our fellow sisters speaking truth and love, knocking us back on the trail. I love how my one teacher said she took her daughter to an amusement park, and she was driving those cars, those bumper cars, and she was the worst driver ever. She kept going off in every direction. So her friends would come up with their bumper car, and they bump her back on the path.
17:12
And she said, isn't that what we sisters should do for one another? I mean, we're human beings. We're gonna go off the path here and there, and we need someone lovingly, humbly coming to us and saying, girlfriend, what are you thinking here? Picture of humbleness. You know what the Lord says about the humble?
17:35
He says, blessed are the humble for they shall inherit the earth. You know what's really cool about that? You know what he's saying? He's saying, if you will humble yourself, I'm gonna give you special opportunities and responsibilities I can't give my other children because the Lord exalts the humble. But what does he do to the prideful?
18:02
He can't use them because right what is right in the middle of that word pride? I. So humbleness and gentleness leads us into the third virtue of patience and long suffering. The word long suffering in the Greek is macrothomia, and it literally means long tempered. Paul is saying, you know you're walking the walk, you know you're growing if you get control of that tongue, and you can stop and not be a short fuse.
18:40
Now I know when we're sick and we're tired and we're hungry, we have to be really careful, especially moms with kids. And I remember saying to my kids, I can't even talk to you right now because I'm gonna have
18:52
Speaker 2to confess a lot of sin.
18:53
Speaker 1So you gotta give me some time because I was ready, as Beth Moore says, to snatch them bald. But long tempered, long suffering has three main ideas, and I love this. It's just a good little thing to check-in your brain. The first one is, are you long suffering with difficult circumstances, Or do you just have a nuclear meltdown? Jesus is saying to us through Paul in this passage, don't go negative.
19:28
Don't walk away from me. That is the time to walk into me, to lean into me. I can tell you just experiencing this on a big level with the accident that I shared a couple weeks ago, it works. It totally works. He was so there for me.
19:45
And I still have my moments where I melt down and cry my eyes out, but I can sleep at night. And it it is well with my soul. He says, don't go negative. Don't give up no matter how long it takes. I mean, I think of the examples he gives us in his word.
19:59
Holy cow. Noah. Some theologians believe he built that ark for a hundred and twenty years, and he told the people, I'm building it because it's gonna rain, and there's gonna be a flood. Did you know there had never been rain then up until that point? That God watered the earth through the rivers and the underground channels.
20:19
And the people were like, you're nuts. There's no such thing as rain, and there's not gonna be a flood. What are you doing? Can you imagine the ridicule Noah got? But because Noah was a humble man, he said, I care more about what God tells me than what you're saying about me.
20:34
He hung in there for a hundred and twenty years. I don't think the Lord's gonna push us to that limit. But, wow, what an example of a man who didn't go negative in a hard circumstance. The third one is don't go negative with difficult people. Ladies, as long as we're on this earth, God's gonna bring us difficult people.
21:01
I have had my fair share. Whoo. And I call them sandpaper people because they just rough me up, And I think the Lord uses them to smooth me out. You know what? Because if I didn't go to him, I would be a bitter person.
21:22
And the Lord does not desire that for any one of us. How do we not be bitter with those difficult people that are so hard to love and that just rough us up? I only know of one way. I have to pray for them. And sometimes I tell the Lord, really?
21:44
Are you bringing them into my life because no one else is praying for them? But for me, I just have to pray and pray and pray until I don't have one thread of bitterness. And sometimes that takes a while. But the Lord is so faithful. His word works.
22:05
There is just a love that will come over you with that person, even if they're just awful to you. You know, I I love what Shelley Olsen says. They're just poor slobs trying to get through. And I think of that. You know what?
22:18
You're just a poor slob like me, and I'm I am not going to go negative on you. This is kind of a silly example, but my book I I had to go on Facebook with my book. And so I posted this just a short paragraph from Franklin Graham after those 21 men were beheaded. And Franklin just all he said was, it's time to call evil evil. It's time to call this what it is, and it's time to take a stand against evil.
22:53
That's pretty much all he said. Immediately, I got a flood of comments. This was from one I don't know if it was a man or a woman. Why are you preaching fear and distress, Deborah Buckingham. And somehow just seeing my name like that, the blood just rushed to my face.
23:17
And why does it matter that they're Christian? Way to go preaching the storm is coming. Shame on you, all of you. You live such fearful, hateful lives. Well, I sat down at my computer, and I was like, oh, right.
23:34
I felt that, you know, nudging from the Holy Spirit, like, woo, girl. Hold on there. So I said, okay, Lord. I better not do this in my power. It's gonna get ugly.
23:47
So Holy Spirit, will you tell me what to say? I sat there, took me eleven minutes to respond. And this is all I said to him. I said, calling out evil is not living in fear and distress. My Abba Father, God Almighty is sovereign, and my trust is in him.
24:06
But I do have a responsibility not to turn a deaf ear and blind eye to injustice and evil. Knowing and understanding what's happening in our world is the only way we know how to respond properly. And then, oh my gosh, the vile comments that came back, I had to actually delete them from I had to hide them because they were so ugly. But the Lord said, that's it. I don't want you to say anything else.
24:33
And he kept saying, where are you, Deborah Buckingham? And I was like, Lord, please let me say one more thing. And he was like, nope. You just leave it there. And then a flood of comments came in from other people.
24:45
I mean, it it was powerful, but, you know, I need to pray for that person's soul. They don't know the truth. They're they're veiled over. Another characteristic of long suffering with difficult people is just having a generous heart. You know, we're not perfect.
25:15
I confess my sin all the time. And I have to be able to extend that to my fellow brother and sister. The third element to macrothymia, that long suffering Paul's talking about that this is when you're really walking the walk is when you know it's God's plan for you and it's just hard. It's just hard. I was crying my eyes out when we got that phone call and I said, Lord, I don't want this to be part of my story.
25:50
Please, Lord. And the Lord said, it is. I'm sovereign. I'm God. Don't ask me why why why.
26:00
Just don't go there, Deborah. And you know, isn't Jesus our example? I mean, He He was in heaven. He was in glorious majesty. No sin, no heartache, no pain.
26:16
And He came to earth and people betrayed Him and lied about Him and beat Him. He's on the cross for these people's sin, and they're spitting on Him. He could have just gone flick. I'm flicking you into eternity. I mean, He's our example.
26:35
What did He do? He said, Father, forgive them. Knowing, knowing, knowing that when the Father forgives, guess what happens? Those people are going to heaven with him. By asking that, he was saying, father, forgive them.
26:55
They can spend eternity with me. Holy cow. That is that is patience with a lot of boneheads, isn't it? That is incredible patience. And even with the Lord, the Lord gave him the most difficult circumstance, and he's in the garden and he's praying in agony.
27:18
Lord, this is too hard for me. Take this cup from me. And then comes the big but that you and I are gonna have to choose at some point in this life. But not my will Lord, but your will be done. Because he knew God's will was always the greater good.
27:42
It always would come back to a greater good. And Jesus said that. Well, humbleness, gentleness, patience and long suffering will open the door for the fourth virtue, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love. You can't love someone if you haven't humbled yourself, not the way God calls us to love. And we can't love someone if we're not patient with them.
28:11
I mean, we just can't. We have to hang in there and then we've got that power within us, remember, to help us do it. I love first Peter four eight. Love covers a multitude of what? Sins.
28:28
Love covers a multitude of sins. And Proverbs ten twelve said, hatred just stirs it up more, but love will cover it. Isn't that a beautiful visual? I love that. And this isn't the kind of love that says, I'm gonna grit my teeth and love you through this, difficult husband.
28:51
That's not the kind of love God is talking about. It goes back to the humbleness and gentleness and patience. And I love how Paul phrased it, making allowances for each other's faults. You know what that's a picture of? A woman of grace.
29:11
A woman of grace says, I'm not perfect and you don't have to be perfect. I'm gonna give you a little space here and just give that to the Lord. I'm just gonna pray for for your healing with the Lord, and I'm just gonna let you and the Lord work it out, and I'm not gonna take it inside me. That that's hard to do, I know. And, you know, as Christians, I have to say this because I've encountered this several times.
29:44
You know, the truth is powerful, and the the truth can divide those who don't receive the truth and believe the truth. And Jesus says, real love is speaking the truth. But always considering that person's best interest is always with the hope of bringing them to truth, not to make your point, not to argue, but to open eyes. And he also gives us the mandate, which I see so very rare with my Christian sisters. He knows we're gonna rough each other up a little.
30:30
What are we supposed to do? Text our other friends? Call someone else and say, can you believe? No. We're supposed to 18, our sister.
30:42
Matthew 18 says, you go to her and you say, you know what? That I I don't know if you meant that or not, but that was really offensive. You go to your sister in Christ, and she may not receive it. Then it says you take another sister and you go back again. You've done your job.
31:06
You've walked the walk. You can't control other people, but that's what the Lord tells us to do, not to run around to everyone else, but to go to our sister or brother in love. Matthew 18. I love what what Carolyn wrote in an email. She said, we are to soften the truth with love and strengthen love with the truth.
31:30
When we do that, Paul says we're growing up. I love that. And that virtue, making allowance for love, leads into the big one. I think the hardest one, being a peacemaker. Not a peacekeeper.
31:49
You know the difference. A peacekeeper is like, okay, everybody just keep the peace. Now don't don't bring up anything controversial. My gosh. And, oh, Deborah, you know, do you always have to talk about Jesus?
32:01
Holy cow. That's so controversial. That's a peacekeeper. A peacemaker is the person that Paul says, make every effort to keep yourselves united in the spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. You know what Paul's saying here?
32:19
The spirit of God has unified us. It's our job not to destroy that, and humans do. We destroy it. But this is the thing about a a peacemaker. You can't make peace with people if you haven't made peace with God in your heart.
32:41
You just can't do it. We all have had hurts and issues along the way, and we can choose to be angry at God. Maybe we don't even know we are. Or we can choose to go to Him and say, Lord, I don't understand that, but can you you and I work this out for good? Can you show me how you're gonna do that?
33:06
Because that's your promise to me. You have to make peace with God before you become a peacemaker with people. If you notice people who are always causing trouble, knit, knit, knit, pick, pick, pick, divisive, divisive, divisive, I can assure you they have no peace with God. Powerful message. So these five virtues, guys, humbleness, gentleness, patience, making allowance for each other's fault in love, peacemaking.
33:40
Can you imagine how we would change our community, our families if we were living this out? You know, we always think we have to come up with methods of evangelism. Right here is the method. You wanna evangelize Jesus Christ? This is it because this is not how the world lives.
34:02
You're not gonna hear these virtues unpacked on Bill O'Reilly. You're not gonna hear these virtues unpacked anywhere else out there. Only in God's word, and it makes us different. And aren't we supposed to be different? What does Christian mean?
34:18
It means I actually follow Christ, and he is our incredible example. Verse four, for there is one body, one spirit, just as you've been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and father of all, who is overall in all and living through all. I think it's interesting that there are seven ones here. Seven, the number of perfection.
34:44
And the Lord is saying, how many bodies are there? Is there the Catholic body, the Baptist body, the American body, the Chinese body? There's one body to the Lord Jesus Christ. And far be it for any of us to look down on our brother and sister who's from a different denomination. The Lord doesn't care.
35:04
Do you think in heaven we're gonna be separated like that? In heaven, we're one. We're one. And I don't think the Lord cares that we're in different denominations because that's how we walk our walk and live out our life. But to think that one is better than the other, oh my goodness.
35:22
How many holy spirits are there? There's a lot of false teaching on the Holy Spirit. There's one, and we all have him. Ephesians one thirteen says, having believed, you were marked with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. Having done what?
35:41
Having believed. One spirit. And we have been called to one glorious hope. Paul's just reminding us, hey, guys. Your destiny is the same place.
35:53
You're all gonna be together. So you probably should try this unifying thing here now because you're all headed to the same direction. Verse five is the son's verse. It says there is one Lord. This is not a popular message today.
36:08
Is Allah God? Acts four twelve says, there is one name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. And what is that name? Jesus Christ, which leads us to our one faith revealed in the word of God, our Christian faith. There is one baptism, and there is one Father.
36:34
Is there any other I am that I am? Is there any other? There is one. We are one. And how do we work out this unity?
36:46
How do we grow in those virtues? Paul says, through your spiritual gifts. Verse seven, but to each one of us by grace, God has given us a spiritual gift. We have to talk about this for a minute, and then I'll close. First Corinthians twelve seven says, your spiritual gift is given to each one of you.
37:10
Why? For your benefit? It's to build up the church. It's to build up the church. But a spiritual gift is like a muscle.
37:20
You have to develop it by using it, or you don't even know what it is. Rick Warren says many people get the discovery process backwards. They think once I discover my spiritual gift, then I'll start serving somewhere. It actually works the opposite. Until you're involved in serving, you're not gonna know what you're good at doing.
37:44
The thing to do is to start volunteering and start serving where opportunities arise, and your spiritual gift becomes very evident. A couple things about your spiritual gift I wanna share with you. Only believers have a spiritual gift. Remember, if we're not born again, we can't respond to God's ways because we're spiritually dead. Remember that from Ephesians?
38:10
That's from first Corinthians two fourteen also. And you can't you can't earn or work for your spiritual gift. That's Ephesians four seven. God says it's a gift of grace. By grace, I've given every single one of you a special spiritual gift.
38:27
The Holy Spirit decides what that gift is. Sometimes we try to decide, don't we? I've seen people working out of their giftedness, and it's not pretty. They're grumpy. They get tired.
38:39
People don't wanna be around them. It's not good. It's not good. The Holy Spirit decides what gifts I get. That's first Corinthians twelve eleven.
38:48
And I am called to develop those gifts God has given me. That's second Timothy one six. Do you know in the Lord's eyes, it's a sin to waste this gift he's given you? That's from the parable from Matthew twenty five fourteen through 30. And finally, using my gifts honors God.
39:13
It grows me, and it builds up the church. That's powerful. That's powerful. John MacArthur says, there is no hard and fast test you can take to discern your gift. We can take spiritual gifts test, and I think they're beneficial, but they can be skewed by our answers.
39:30
He says, you wanna know what your spiritual gift is? This is how. This is how. Start serving. And what are you drawn to volunteer for?
39:40
What sounds good to you? Number two, when you do it, does God bless it? If you do it and God isn't blessing it, that's probably a red flag. And finally, you will get such joy and satisfaction from doing it. It's your sweet spot.
40:00
It's like, okay, this is what I was made to do. It brings you joy. It brings others joy because they're edified from it. I'm gonna end with an exhortation from John MacArthur. It's tough, but it's truth.
40:20
He says not to use your gift is an affront to God, an affront to Christ. It is indifference to the Holy Spirit. It is a rebuff of divine love. It is disobedience to your calling to ignore the very purpose for which God has placed you and powered you in His church. I have been in churches that don't allow people to use their spiritual gifts.
40:50
Run. That is not the church of Christ. That's why we have them. I was told once by a pastor's wife I would never ever teach in her church. And I said, do you disagree with what I'm teaching?
41:06
She said, oh, no. No, I think you're a good teacher, but I don't allow that. I ran. I ran. That's not the the model that God gave Paul.
41:23
And you know what? Jesus said, I came that you could have abundant life. And that's why I think we see so many Christians just so lukewarm, so anemic. Their life isn't abundant because they don't know the virtues and they're not serving anywhere. It's miserable when you're not serving.
41:47
When it's all about you, I think that is the worst place to be. Lord, your word is so powerful. Sometimes it's very convicting and challenging, but it is also encouraging and comforting. I thank you for giving it to us. I thank you for the freedom to come and worship with you.
42:12
I thank you for every soul in this room. I know your word is ministering to their hearts. God, protect these precious women. Protect them and bless them and shine your face upon them. And to you be the glory forever and ever.
42:30
Amen.
