Recap

The message in order, in a few minutes of reading.

The pastor opened by reading Ephesians 1 through 3 in full before moving into chapter 4, making the case that the practical instructions in the second half of the letter only make sense if you have let the first half settle in. The sermon traced how believers are called to walk differently from the life they lived before Christ, and why that walk is possible at all.

What was said

The reading of Ephesians 1 through 3 was not background material. The pastor treated it as the foundation the whole morning stood on, and he read it straight through before saying anything else. His point was that a preacher who skips to the commands in chapter 4 without laying that groundwork is asking people to build on air. The Ascent Youth Group was visiting that morning, and he said he would not have felt right wagging his finger at people who had never heard from him before without first giving them the ground to stand on.

From those first three chapters he drew a simple picture: your position is either in sins or in Christ. There is no middle category. But your walk, he said, does not look that clean. Believers stumble, go backward, and sometimes return to old patterns. The honest picture of the Christian life is not a straight line from dark to light but a path that moves generally in one direction, with the work of the Holy Spirit as the engine of that movement, which the Bible calls sanctification.

When he reached chapter 4, verse 17, Paul's instruction to "no longer walk as the Gentiles do" landed with that whole backdrop behind it. The pastor described what he called the sequence of futility: hardness of heart leads to darkened understanding, darkened understanding leads to a kind of ignorance where you do not even know what you do not know, and from there people reach for whatever seems like it might satisfy, which Paul describes as licentiousness and uncleanness. He was careful to say this is where all of us start, not a condition unique to people outside the church.

Paul's alternative is not simply trying harder. The pastor pointed to the phrase "put off your old self" and connected it to the call in Romans 12 to not be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewal of the mind, and to Colossians 3, which he called one of his favorite chapters, with its image of taking off an old garment and putting on a new one. The new self, Paul says, is "created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness." The pastor acknowledged that is hard to believe about ourselves, but said it happens through humility and trust rather than self-effort.

He closed the sermon proper by returning to the either/or choice that runs through the whole letter: obedience, where God works through us, or disobedience, where God may still accomplish his will but in spite of us. He said he would rather God work through his obedience than in spite of his disobedience. The service then moved to communion, where the pastor prayed over both elements and reminded the congregation that the new covenant, unlike the old, is all on Christ.

Doing a Bible study?

Here is a guide we have prepared for you: the passages in order, questions for the group, and room to write.

  1. Pastor Mark recommended Ephesians as a starting point for someone who already knows Jesus and wants to grow spiritually. What is it about the first three chapters of Ephesians that he said needs to be understood before you get to chapters four through six, and why do you think that order matters?
  2. Pastor Mark described the 'sequence of futility' as moving from hardness of heart to darkness to ignorance to licentiousness to uncleanness. Have you seen that progression play out, either in your own life or in what you have observed around you? Where does it tend to start?

0:00 What I was talking about before that, the I was having breakfast with a guy. It's been a few years back now and the guy was earnest about growing in his faith and so he asked me, what do I need to read? What book do I need to read? And I think he's just talking about a book in general. What will help me grow in the faith?
0:14 And I'm always gonna say a Bible book, right? So, I said, well, if you wanna read to grow spiritually, I would start with Ephesians. He already knew Jesus. So, yeah, start with the gospels. Get to know who Jesus is but he already knew Jesus.
0:28 So, I'd say start with Ephesians because it is short and it is easy to understand and it is encouraging. So, great. He went off Ephesians. Alright, cool and then I didn't see him the next week and I saw him the next week. So, it's been two weeks since I saw the guy.
0:43 Came in. He was scratching his head and he was going, I said, how'd you like that book? He goes, I didn't like the book. I said, you didn't like Ephesians? How in the world can that be?
0:54 I said, why didn't you like the book? He said, it was not short. It was not easy to understand and it was not encouraging and I said, did you read Ephesians? He goes, oh, I thought you said Ecclesiastes. That's a big difference.
1:12 So, long, confusing, discouraging, vanity of vanities. No, this is Ephesians. So, we're looking at, we're in New Testament and there's a basis upon which we're going to build today and so we're the solid truth of Ephesians one to three really needs to be understood before you get to Ephesians four where you start saying, hey, walk in a manner that's worthy of the calling. You know, there's the kingdom of darkness and there's the kingdom of light and God is taking people from the kingdom of darkness and placing them in the kingdom of light but then there's the walking it out that is a part of this new life in Christ. So, Imma go back.
1:54 The solid truth from Ephesians three, I said this morning, we had the whole Ascent Youth Group. The Ascent Youth Group is like five churches worth of youth group and they all meet together on Wednesdays and Thursdays, middle school, high school and so they took up several rows over here this morning. All of them came here. They've been church hopping together. So, the whole youth group went to the Catholic Church last week.
2:14 They went travel week before. They were at first B this week. I wouldn't want to stand up and start wagging my finger in Ephesians four with a bunch of people who'd never heard from me ever before because the foundation for Ephesians four through six is found in one through three. So, I'm going ask you, indulge me, close your eyes, sit, and allow this to wash over you like the encouraging river of goodness that it is. Ephesians one through three, you can, I'll wake you up when it's over.
2:46 Alright? Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, by the very will of God to the saints and remember this, sinners saved by grace are saints. That's the people who believe, right? To the saints who are at Ephesus, who are the faithful in Christ Jesus, grace to you and peace from God our father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing already in the heavenly places in Christ.
3:17 Just as he chose us and him before the foundation of the world that we would be holy and blameless before him. What God sees when he looks at a believer is the cross of Christ and the righteousness of Christ. Just as he chose us in him that we would be holy and blameless before him in love. He predestined us to adoption as sons and daughters. Through Jesus Christ, to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace with which he favored us in the beloved.
3:52 In Christ, in him, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our wrongdoings. According to the riches of his grace which he lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure which he set forth in him regarding his plan in the fullness of times to bring all things together in Christ. All things are be brought together in Christ. Things in the heavens and things on earth.
4:20 In him, we also have obtained an inheritance. Having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things in accordance with the plan of his will to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of his glory. In him, all y'all also after listening to the message of truth, of the good news of your salvation, having also believed it, you were sealed in him with the Holy Spirit of the promise, who is the first installment of our inheritance. In regard to the redemption of God's own possession to the praise of his glory. For this reason too, I having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exist among you and your love for all of the saints, I don't cease giving thanks for you while making mention of you in my prayers.
5:13 What? That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of God. I pray the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you will know what is the hope of his calling. What are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, in the church, and what is the boundless greatness of his power towards those of us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of his might which he brought about in Christ.
5:43 When he raised him from the dead and he seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places. This is already true in the heavenlies. Taken from the kingdom of darkness, brought into the kingdom of light. Christ interceding on your behalf. Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come and he put all things in subjection under his feet and he made him Christ head over all things to the church which is his body and the fullness of him who fills all in all And you, though you were dead in your offenses and sins, kingdom of darkness, in which you previously walked according to the course of this world, like everybody else, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that's now working, still in the sons of disobedience.
6:33 Among them, we too also previously lived in the lust of the flesh and indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind and we were by nature children of wrath just as the rest but God. Being rich in mercy because of his great love with which he loved us even when we were dead in our wrongdoings. He made us alive together with Christ. By grace, you've been saved and he raised us up with him and he seated us with him in heavenly places in Christ Jesus so that in the ages to come, he might show the boundless riches of his grace and kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace that you've been saved through faith and that's not of yourself.
7:15 It's the gift of God. It's not a result of work so no one can boast. We are his workmanship. We were created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand so that we'd walk in them. So, remember that, that previously, y'all, Gentiles in the flesh who were called uncircumcision by the so called circumcision which is performed in the flesh by human hands.
7:39 Remember this, that you are at the same time separate from Christ, excluded from the people of Israel, strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world, kingdom of darkness. But now in Christ Jesus, you who previously were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace. He made both groups into one and broke down the barrier between the dividing wall. By abolishing sin in his flesh, he abolished in his flesh the hostility which is the law composed of commandments expressed in ordinances so that in himself he might make the two one new person.
8:23 In this way, peace and that he might reconcile them both into one body to God through the cross. By it having to death the hostility. Having put to death the hostility and he came and he preached peace to you who were far away and he preached peace to those who were near. For through him, we have we both have access in one spirit to the father. Jesus said, he was the only way.
8:51 So, then, you're no longer strangers. You're no longer foreigners but you are fellow citizens with all of the saints. Sinners saved by grace are saints. You are of God's household having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Christ Jesus himself being the very cornerstone in whom the whole building being fitted together is growing into a holy temple in the Lord.
9:14 In whom you also are being built together into a what dwelling of God and the spirit and so for this reason, I, Paul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, for the sake of y'all Gentiles, if indeed you have heard of the administration of God's grace which was given to me for you that by revelation or revealing, there was made known to me the mystery at just as I wrote to you before. By referring to this when you read, you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ which in other generations was not made known. As it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the spirit to be specific that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of this body. They're fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the good news of the gospel of which I was made a minister. According to the gift of God's grace which was given to me according to the working of his power.
10:08 To me, the very least of all the saints. This grace was given to preach to the Gentiles unfathomable riches of Christ and to enlighten all people as to what the plan and the mystery is for what for ages has been hidden in God. God who created all things so that the multifaceted wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the whole cosmos, to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which he carried out in Christ Jesus our lord. In Christ Jesus our lord, we have boldness and confident access through faith in him.
10:48 Therefore, I ask you not to become discouraged about any tribulations on your behalf since they are for your glory. For this reason, I, Paul, bend my knees before the father, from whom every family in heaven and earth derives its name, that he would grant to you according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power through his spirit and the inner self. So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith and that you being rooted and grounded in the love of God may be able to comprehend with all of the rest of the saints what is the width and the length and the height and the depth and to know the love of Christ which surpasses all knowledge that you may be filled to all the fullness of God and now, to him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works within us, To him, be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all generations forever and ever. Amen. God, would you bless that bath that we all need?
11:49 To know that this is already true is helpful when we try to walk it out. Would you let us be ever moving forward into the light? Amen. So, that is the truth that undergirds this passage. Now, the first of chapter four really gets to the unity of the body because all of that is true for everyone who's put their faith in Christ, we are one body, one faith, one baptism.
12:20 I love that the kids are hopping from church to church because they're being exposed to different facets of God's love and the practice thereof. This morning, they heard a lot of scripture In chapter four, he urges us to walk in a manner that's worthy of the calling. So, that in itself the walk is what it's about today. 17 starts off like this. Now, this I say and I testify in the Lord that because all chapter one through three is true but about Christ, now we're talking about Jesus not just being the appointed and anointed Christ.
12:57 We're talking about him being lord. So, walk it out. Now, this I say and testify in the Lord, you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do in the futility of their minds. So, I'm going to have a couple of visual aids. Visual aids look like this.
13:09 Either you are in sin or you are in Christ. In sins, you are in sins with the wrath of God hanging over you or you are in Christ positionally. So, that is a binary function. You either lost or you are saved. That's your position.
13:24 In sins or in Christ and I think that you can see that from Ephesians being written to saints saying, you were this way. Now, you are this way but if we look at our practice, it does not look so clean. We are not immediately sanctified completely and perfected immediately as soon as we say yes to Jesus. So, our practice is more like this. It's walking from darkness towards light and sometimes we stumble and sometimes we go backwards and sometimes like a dog returning to its vomit, we go back.
14:00 But we should be heading this direction. So, I've got a timeline here. I've used this before. It's been a while. God chose from the beginning, from the beginning, beginning.
14:11 Before there was such thing as time, he knew that if there was any created thing, it would fall short of his glory and that is true and everybody who has ever lived since except Jesus. So, God chose from the beginning a way that sinful man could be reconciled and that's through Christ's work. His life, his voluntary and sacrificial death with a perfect record that could be shared with anyone. Life, death, burial, resurrection. I could go on and say session.
14:45 It said twice already that he is seated in the heavenlies with we are seated in the heavenlies with Christ Jesus who is interceding for us. So, Christ work has made it possible. He said that he's the way, the truth, and the life and that is the way that anyone that comes to the father comes to the father is through him. So, that gospel witness started with, I'd say, the the prophets and the apostles but the gospel witness of the cross started with his first followers and those that Jesus sent out and that gospel witness still goes forward. The good news that Jesus came and lived a perfect life, died a voluntary and sacrificial death, and in exchange for belief.
15:30 He would give that to anyone who will, whosoever. So, the gospel witness goes forth and I would say for all of us in the room, there's a moment when you have the chance with the gospel witness to either accept the truth of Jesus and accept the righteousness that he achieved in his life and death and proved in his resurrection. You have a chance to accept that or you have a chance to reject that and that's where one we'd say got saved, right? Before the very foundation of the world, he made the way. When you are, you think couldn't been any other way than this but the belief is that place.
16:10 Now, going forward from there is our walk as a believer and that is the process that we call sanctification which the Bible presents as the work of the Holy Spirit. So, the Holy Spirit speaking into our lives and motivating us. It's a great example of Alex and Emily and the kids going to Alaska. I think that's great. He's not going ask everyone of us to go some foreign land but he's going to impress upon us in a still small voice how to be present and faithful, how to be generous and helpful, how to be gracious and good.
16:47 He's going to impress upon us that which he wants. He says, you already heard it. We're his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works that he prepared in advance that we would walk in them. So, he is the one that's going be in charge. Work of the Holy Spirit.
17:02 Now, you can listen to the spirit and say, no, I don't want to do that. Don't quench the spirit. That's in the text. It's coming. And when you say, no, I don't want do that.
17:11 I'm not going to do that. You go backwards and when you say, lord, I don't understand it but I'm stepping out in faith and going to what I believe you're telling me to do, you go upwards. So, the sanctification process is up and down. It's all over and then, ultimately saved, I'd say, the reason I say ultimately saved, I think that it is the message of the cross from Corinthians. This is message of the cross.
17:34 It is foolishness to those who are perishing but to those who are being saved, it is the power of God unto salvation and so, ultimately saved is either the great mighty day of the Lord or the day of our death in Christ And then there's glorification. If I were to kind of illustrate it with the black and white, it's like that. It's not going be bright, bright, white until it's over, okay? But we're walking that direction. If you believe in sinless perfectionism, I think, let's let's keep talking.
18:05 That's not been my experience in my own life. I I I would hope that I'd be better and better and better but you know, sometimes we air, sometimes we fall. A little bit of humility goes a long long way. God resists the proud. He gives grace to the humble.
18:19 When we raise our head up in pride and say, I want to do it my way. God has a way of bringing us into submission. So I'd say humble yourselves before being humiliated. And now, let's yield to righteousness for sanctification. We can yield and humble ourselves before God and listen to him.
18:38 Alright. So, here we are. Four seventeen through 24. Y'all now know why it went long. Now, this I say and I testify in the Lord that y'all must no longer walk as the Gentiles do.
18:52 I said it last week and I've said it quite often that you can't expect for somebody who does not know Jesus to act like they do. It's hard enough for those of us who do know Jesus to act like we do. Now, this I say and testify in the Lord that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding. Bless their hearts.
19:15 Alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them. Now, this I say, this is the same thing. I'm sorry. My my slides got a little off here because the hardness, the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their heart. So, they've become callous and they've given themselves up to sensuality and greedy to practice every kind of impurity.
19:38 I read a book long ago and it stuck with me that that he called it the sequence of futility. So, there's a sequence to it and it's been practiced throughout all of humanity. Really, we see it played out that the hardness of the heart which is interesting. This is why Jesus said that divorce exist. Is because of the hardness of the heart.
20:01 The hardness of the heart leading to darkness because I don't want to accept what is true, what is good. So there's darkness and there's a profound ignorance. You don't even know what you don't know. But grasping for straws, you figure, I'll just do what feels right. Well, licentiousness, big old word that just means you feel like you have license to do anything, and you are an autonomous being with responsibility and you can choose to use your free will however you want to.
20:35 If you end up going after whatever you feel like might satisfy deep longing, licentiousness is a good possibility of where you're going to end up in the ditch where you just feel like I can do whatever I want to, nobody can tell me what to do. That's true. You can also end up in the ditch of legalism but that's not what this paragraph is about, right? But if you go for license, you end up practicing uncleanness and things that are just not good for you. And you become more and more alienated from the life of God and that's the way that Paul describes every single one of us for the first three chapters.
21:12 He says, we all start off there but then, God himself is working by his spirit to bring us out of this kind of thinking and bring us into alignment with him. So, this is one paragraph. We're just covering two today and y'all listen a whole lot faster than that first service. I swear. I got plenty of time.
21:37 But that's not the way you learn Christ. So, that futility is not what you learned in Christ. Assuming that you actually heard about him and really him and you were taught in him and the truth itself is in Jesus. Let me back up, give you a bigger slide on that but that's not the way you learn Christ. Assuming that you did actually hear about him really because there are folks that present Christ in another way.
22:03 There are there are folks even now who present Christ and say, hey, come to Christ and he'll forgive you of all your sins, past, present, future, can do whatever you want to. Liberty in Christ. Antinomian. No law whatsoever. No rules.
22:16 Just go forward. Do what you want. Do what you want. That's not the way you learn. Christ, assuming that you have heard about him really and you were taught in him as the truth itself is in Jesus, the way he lived his life.
22:27 It was ordered. It was submitted to the will of God by the spirit of God. Put off your old self which belongs to the former manner of life like he described in that last paragraph. It's corrupt through its deceitful desires but be renewed in the spirit of your minds and put on the new self created after the likeness of God and true righteousness and holiness. Put off your old self, he says.
22:52 So that sounds like something we've heard before. Jesus in Matthew, he says, listen, if anybody's going to come after me and follow me, they're going to have to deny themselves because we're going different directions. Take up his cross and follow me. That's the way. Put off your old self sounds like another chapter.
23:12 It's corrupt through its deceitful desires. It's needs to be renewed in the spirit of your mind. So, does that sound familiar? That sounds like Romans 12 which whereas Ephesians has one, two, three of theology and then four, five, six of practice chapters. Romans has one through eight of theology, nine, ten, 11 are about the Jewish question and then 12 through 16 are practice.
23:36 So, in the verse verses, I appeal to you then brothers and sisters by the mercies of God, be present in your bodies as a living sacrifice. Now, living sacrifice wriggles around on the altar. Holy and acceptable to God. That's your spiritual worship. Now, don't be conformed to this world.
23:56 Don't be just like everybody else. We all start there, but we don't have to end there. Jesus loves you and wants you to follow after him, and you don't have to end where you begin. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and what's acceptable and what's perfect. Lord, I long to do your will.
24:19 Show me your way. Empower me by your spirit. I'll walk in it. And it says put on the new self. Now that, put on the new self, pull off the old self.
24:28 Does that sound familiar? Yeah. Colossians three, one of my favorite chapters in the whole Bible. It's about walking it out. Colossians is even a shorter theology and then shorter practice But right here he says to just like a garment, take off the old ratty, worldly garment and put on the new garment.
24:50 Put it on as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. He probably wrote this within a couple of weeks of writing Ephesians. Bearing with one another, if anybody's got a complaint against the other, forgiving each other just as the Lord has forgiven you, that's the way you're supposed to forgive. Above all these, be putting on love which binds everything together in perfect harmony and allow the peace. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.
25:17 To which indeed you are called into this one body. That calls back on all of those first three chapters, right? So, put on the new self. The new self is how, what does that look like? Created after the likeness of God and in true righteousness and holiness.
25:31 That's hard to believe. It's hard to believe that we frail, feeble, fickle human beings can actually put on the righteousness of God but he's saying that we can. It happens in humility and it happens by trusting in Jesus and the truth. Now, our position again, in sins or in Christ, kingdom of darkness or kingdom of marvelous light. There's not anybody that falls outside of those categories.
25:54 It's one of the other but our walk and bless your hearts if if you've been looking around at Christians and saying, I'm better than him. Well, he's not the goal. He's not the goal. Christ Jesus is the one that we are looking to, the author and the perfecter of our faith. So we want to walk towards the light.
26:21 You walk towards the light, you get more light. So, either we're going to be in sins and in disobedience, I should say or we're to be in Christ and in obedience and again, I could say, you can either say, yes, lord or you can say no but you can't really say no, lord. So, he's showing us the way with all of the grounding of everything that God has already done for us. He's saying, hey, now walk it out. So, I just stop right here and say, so now, y'all yield to righteousness for your sanctification.
26:56 Are we going to be obedient and have him work through that obedience because we're walking out the steps that he has prepared for us in advance? Are we going to be disobedient and have him have to work? Because he's going to work his will. It's mysterious but he's going to work it. He might be working it in spite of our disobedience.
27:14 I'd rather him work through my obedience than in spite of my disobedience. God, would you show us what the mystery of your will is for our lives? In Jesus name, I pray that you would have us do what it is you want us to do. Right now, we're going to this table to the open table, communion, Lord's supper. Some folks may call it the Eucharist.
27:39 God, I pray that you would bless when I'm invite the ushers to come forward and we distribute this little cracker as a representative for the body of Christ. How he really did accomplish and fulfill the law. He accomplished your will and fulfilled the law by being submissive and humble and obedient to the spirit even when it meant his life. So, Lord God almighty, I pray that this little representative sample. As we distribute it, that you would bless everyone who partakes.
28:14 If there's anybody in the room who trusts in Jesus, they are welcome to partake. If there's anybody in the room who knows that they have not yet put their faith in Christ. Lord, I pray that you would move upon them even as they just let the plate pass without partaking today. I pray that in the future, you would, lord, move through your humble and obedient servants in the way that they live their lives, in the way that they use their words. Lord, that they would come to know who you are and the goodness from before the foundation of the world.
28:48 Would you show them the evidence of your goodness? I ask your blessing on this as we distribute it, Amen. Can he because he lives because on the same evening that Jesus was betrayed, he took bread after supper. This is a representative of that. Took bread after supper and after he had given thanks, he said to his disciples who were there with him, this is my body which is given for you.
31:42 Take this in. Take it in. Eat of it and do it as often as you will to remember me. Thank you, Jesus. For your complete and utter submission for living your life in absolute fulfillment of all of the law's requirements.
32:04 Thank you for that spirit led obedience that led to the perfect record that could be shared by your innocent blood. I ask a prayer right now, lord, that you would bless this little representation of the blood of Jesus. That you would bless each one who would partake. Lord, that you are reminding us of your death. Voluntary and sacrificial.
32:33 Thank you. Thank you, Jesus, for what you did on behalf of all who would ever believe. Ask your blessing on this little representative representation of that right now. In Jesus name, amen. Because he lives I can face tomorrow because he lives Just as he had taken the bread after supper, he also took the cup, common cup for them, little individual plastic cups of grape juice for us.
35:45 Nevertheless, he said to them, and his voice still rings out by their witness to us, This is my blood, the blood of the new covenant. The old covenant was all on you but the new covenant is all on Christ. This is the blood of the new covenant. Take this in, drink of it, do it as often as you will, and remembering me. Amen.
36:15 And Paul says as often as we do this, we proclaim the Lord's death until he comes again and I wanna say, like I thought of rock of ages when we're singing the other songs we're singing this morning. Rock of ages has a great line that says, rock of ages cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee. Let the water in the blood from your wounded side which flowed. Be of sin, the double cure. Save from wrath, that's salvation, and make me pure.
36:42 That's sanctification. And the new covenant is all about both. So in Jesus name, we gather. In Jesus name, we pray. In Jesus name, we walk it out.
36:51 Would you stand with me? And I think we're gonna do the doxology. Would you just hit a g chord there? Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all creatures here below.
37:12 Praise him above ye heavenly host. Praise father, son, and holy ghost. Go and be blessed this week. Share it with somebody else. Amen.
