What does First B Jackson teach about abraham?
Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.
At First B Jackson, the teaching on Abraham begins where Paul begins: not with a hero of the faith but with an ordinary name buried in a genealogical list at the end of Genesis 11. Pastor Josh and Pastor Brett both made the same point from the same texts: there is nothing in the record to suggest Abraham was chosen because he deserved it. What follows in Genesis is the story of a deeply flawed man who lied to protect himself, tried to engineer God's promise through his own logic, and then sinned the same way again after God had already made a covenant with him. Moses, both pastors argued, went out of his way to show how ordinary and broken Abraham actually was. The credit of righteousness was never a reward for a righteous man. It was received by a believing one.
The heart of the teaching is the promise God made and what Abraham did with it. A man whose body was as good as dead, a wife whose womb was past the point of bearing children, and God tells him he will be the father of many nations. Romans 4:19-20 says Abraham contemplated those facts and still did not waver. He grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, fully assured that what God had promised He was also able to perform. Both pastors kept returning to that word 'able': the glory comes back to God precisely because the outcome was never within human reach. Every attempt to solve the problem on human terms, the situation with Hagar being the clearest example, produced the wrong result. The child of promise came by God's power alone.
The picture both messages used to bring this down to the ground was a little girl standing at the edge of a pool while her father waits in the water. The question Abraham faced, and the question the teaching presses toward, is whether belief actually changes what you do. Faith, as both Pastor Josh and Brett framed it, is not one contribution among several. It is the only thing that fits with grace, because the moment anything else is added alongside it, the whole arrangement becomes a transaction. Abraham's story is in Romans precisely to show that this has always been how God works, before the law, before circumcision, for anyone who trusts what God has said.
