What does First B Jackson teach about colossians?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on Colossians returns again and again to a single conviction: Christ is sufficient, and nothing added to him adds anything real. The letter was written by Paul from prison to a church he had never visited, burdened that they were being pulled away from the simplicity of faith in Jesus by a blend of Jewish religious demands, human philosophy, and folk spirituality. The preaching here has followed that same burden, pressing the question of whether we are walking in Christ the same way we first received him, by faith, or whether we have quietly started stacking requirements on top of what he has already finished.

The cross is the hinge everything turns on. Every certificate of debt the law held against us was canceled there and nailed to the cross. What looked like defeat was the center point of all history. As one message put it, 'What looked like the devil's greatest day was not the devil's greatest day. It's the center point of all history.' The threats Paul names in the letter, whether rules about food and festivals, ascetic self-punishment, or the demand to observe shadows that found their substance in Christ, all share the same flaw: they suggest that what Christ did was not enough. Paul's answer, worked through carefully in the teaching here, is that in Christ the fullness of God dwells, and that anyone united to him is complete.

The practical weight of that falls on ordinary life. The same faith that brought someone to Christ is the faith they are to walk in daily. The letter swings from theological foundation to lived-out response, and the preaching at First B has followed that movement, asking what it looks like to set your mind on things above when the pressures of the week press back down. 'If you get to know Christ, you get to know everything that you need to know about God, life, and godliness.' That is the note the teaching on Colossians keeps coming back to.
