What does First B Jackson teach about demon possession?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on demon possession begins with what the accounts in Matthew, Mark, and Luke all agree on: when demonic forces encounter Jesus, they do not resist or negotiate on equal terms. They beg. They call him Son of God, they acknowledge his authority, and they ask only for mercy. Carl and Pastor Mark have both pointed out that the Bible does not present God and the devil as rough equals. The picture the gospels give is one of complete, uncontested authority on Jesus' side.

The story of the man living among the tombs, the one called Legion because so many demons had entered him, is where the teaching gets specific. He had broken chains, lived naked and homeless among the dead, and cut himself with stones. No one had been able to help him. When Jesus sent the demons into a herd of about two thousand pigs and the whole herd rushed into the sea and drowned, Pastor Mark read that as a window into what demonic forces actually do when left to their own end: they destroy. The man himself, sitting at Jesus' feet, clothed and in his right mind, is the point the teaching keeps returning to. Total destruction, and then total restoration.

The response of the townspeople is also part of what the church has taught on this. They had feared the man for years, and when they saw him healed they were more afraid, not less, and asked Jesus to leave. Pastor Ray described that as a choice between faith and the wrong kind of fear. The healed man himself made the opposite choice. He was not afraid of Jesus at all. He begged to stay with him.

The passage taught · Mark 1:27

27 They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!”
