What does First B Jackson teach about encouragement?
Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.
At First B Jackson, the teaching on encouragement starts with its most literal meaning. When Paul writes to Timothy in 2 Timothy 1, Pastor Ray and Pastor Brian have both pointed out that to encourage someone is to fill them with courage when they are worn down. Paul names Timothy's grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice, affirms the faith he is certain lives in Timothy, and only then urges him to kindle afresh the gift God has placed in him. The pattern matters: the specific, named affirmation comes first, and it is the ground for the call to keep going. That kind of encouragement is not flattery. It is one person seeing what God has already done in another person and saying so plainly.
Hebrews 3 pushes that further. Pastor Stan worked through the warning and the encouragement side by side in that passage, and the instruction that landed at the center was from verse 13: encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called today. The reason the text says every day and not just occasionally is that sin is deceitful, and each small act of hardening becomes slightly easier than the last. The community is the safeguard. Treating faith as a private matter, Pastor Stan noted, leaves a person without the daily voice that can call them back before drifting becomes something worse. The assembling together that Hebrews 10 commands is connected to exactly this, provoking one another toward love and good deeds rather than toward division.
The figure of Barnabas runs through several messages here as the clearest picture of what encouragement looks like in practice. His name means son of encouragement, and the teaching from Acts 4 and 11 shows it was not just a title. When the church was frightened and scattering after Stephen's death, Barnabas traveled to Antioch and urged the believers to remain true to the Lord. He then found Saul and brought him into ministry. Carl and Pastor Jon both noted that the gift of encouragement, used faithfully in that moment, had consequences that shaped the entire early church. The point the teaching keeps returning to is that encouragement is never merely emotional support. It is a serious, purposeful act that holds people steady and moves the work of God forward.
