What does First B Jackson teach about god's sovereignty?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on God's sovereignty starts from a place of honesty: the Bible holds both God's total sovereignty and genuine human responsibility at the same time, and the church does not try to collapse that tension into a neater system. Pastor Ray has described this as a biblical reality to be held rather than a problem to be solved, noting that running to a consistent logical extreme in either direction is easier than staying in the center of what Scripture actually says. Open theism on one end and hard determinism on the other are both tidier options, but neither is where the teaching lands.

That tension shows up in concrete and often painful situations. Pastor Mark opened Hebrews 12 by acknowledging plainly that he cannot fully explain how both things are true at the same time, only that the Bible holds both without letting go of either. The passage he worked through asks believers to reason from the smaller to the greater: earthly fathers discipline their children with limited and faulty judgment, and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits, who disciplines not according to what seems best to him in the moment but for our actual good, so that we may share in his holiness. The point is not that suffering feels easy but that it is not outside God's hand, and that running through it rather than around it leads somewhere real.

Pastor Matt showed the same conviction in Acts 4, where the early church, fresh from being threatened by the Sanhedrin, addressed God as sovereign Lord and then asked him to act. They did not pray for protection or for circumstances to change. They asked for boldness, and the place shook. The whole chapter frames God's sovereignty not as a doctrine to be defended in the abstract but as the ground believers actually stand on when the pressure is real. The word of God, as Acts 12 puts it in a line Pastor Jonathan kept returning to, continued to grow and to be multiplied, even through execution, imprisonment, and the gruesome end of a king who thought himself more than a man.
