What does First B Jackson teach about guilt?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on guilt does not let anyone off the hook, but it also does not leave anyone without an answer. Working through Romans 2:1, Pastor Ray pressed the point that Paul's warning is aimed at exactly the person who thinks they escaped the indictment of chapter one because they are churchgoing and morally respectable. The subtle sins, anger that falls short of murder, lust that stops short of adultery, do not get a pass before a God whose judgment is based on truth. The person who judges others while doing the same things in quieter forms is carrying real guilt, not imagined guilt.

Pastor Ray also drew attention to what God's patience and kindness in the face of that guilt actually mean. The danger he named is treating God's forbearance as though it costs nothing. His point was the opposite: it is precisely God's kindness that leads a person to repentance, and when someone grasps that, they stop imagining they deserve what they are receiving. An unrepentant heart, on the other hand, only stores up more weight.

Pastor Ryan, preaching from John 16, brought a similar honesty to what the Spirit's conviction of sin is actually for. He was direct: yes, the Spirit came so that we would feel the weight of our guilt. But the pain of that conviction is not the end of the story. It is what moves a person to confess and repent, to get out from under a weight they cannot carry themselves. Romans 8:1 was where both lines of teaching landed: those who are in Christ Jesus face no condemnation. The guilt is real, the relief is real, and neither fact is softened.

The passage taught · Matthew 5:22

22 But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment; and whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ will be in danger of the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.
