What does First B Jackson teach about hearing god?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First Baptist Jackson, teaching on hearing God starts with the conviction that hearing Him is not reserved for a special class of believers. In the 2015 series on living as a new creation, Pastor Lisa grounded this in Acts 2, where Peter quotes Joel's promise that when God pours out His Spirit, sons and daughters will prophesy. Because that outpouring came at Pentecost and the Spirit has been given to all believers since, the ability to receive and share what God is saying belongs to the whole body, not only to leaders or to a past era.

A significant part of the teaching focused on the gift of prophecy as one of the primary ways God speaks to and through His people. Drawing from First Corinthians, Pastor Lisa described prophecy not mainly as predicting the future but as declaring something that can only be known by divine revelation, most often revealing God's heart of love, strength, and joy over a person. Because we know and prophesy only in part, she taught that whatever is received should be shared without layering on personal interpretation or direction. The goal is always to build up.

At the same time, the teaching was clear that hearing God requires careful discernment. First Thessalonians 5 supplied the balance: do not quench the Spirit and do not despise prophetic words, but examine everything. Three tests were offered for weighing what is received: does it line up with Scripture and God's character; does it align with what the Holy Spirit is already doing in a person's life; and does it produce faith rather than fear. A story shared in the group illustrated why that last question matters, when a word that stirred up fear led a minister to pray it through and recognize it was leading him away from something God intended for him. The examining step protects both the person giving a word and the person receiving one.
