What does First B Jackson teach about heaven?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First Baptist Jackson, the teaching on heaven starts with the conviction that heaven is a real place, not an abstraction. Carl has preached that believers in Christ have something concrete to look forward to, and the Bible leaves no picture of an in-between. Drawing from Revelation 21, he described a destination where every tear is wiped away and death, sorrow, and crying are gone. That is the prize Paul is pressing toward in Philippians 3, and Carl's point was that it is worth pressing toward with everything you have.

That hope is not meant to be a distant comfort. Both Carl and Pastor Carl have taught that a confident expectation of heaven reshapes how a person lives right now. Working through 2 Corinthians 5, Pastor Carl showed that Paul held two positions at once: at home in the body but absent from the Lord, or absent from the body and present with the Lord. Both produced confidence, because this life is not all there is and death holds no threat for someone who belongs to Christ. The Holy Spirit, described there as a guarantee or down payment of what is coming, is what grounds that confidence in the present.

The teaching has also pressed on what it looks like to live between earth and heaven without losing heart. Carl used a Francis Chan illustration of a long rope to make the point visually: we spend enormous energy consumed with the short red portion that represents life on earth, while the rope of eternity stretches far beyond it. Pastor Carl was careful to note that groaning in this life is not a failure of faith. It is the honest response of someone who knows something far better is coming, and it is exactly what Paul described.
