What does First B Jackson teach about knowing god's will?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on knowing God's will starts by pushing back on the idea that it is hard to find. Dave Hatfield put it plainly: it is in the Book, and it comes down to two commands, love God and love your neighbor. All 613 laws collapse into those two. The difficulty is not locating the will of God, it is obeying it. Pastor Kyle has framed the same conviction as a loop rather than a ladder: knowing God's will leads to doing it, doing it reveals more of who God is, and that greater knowledge of God feeds back into knowing His will more fully.

Pastor James and Pastor Kyle have both returned to Paul's prayer in Colossians 1:9-14 as the clearest map of how this works. The prayer moves in a deliberate sequence: being a Christian comes first, then knowing God's will, then walking in a manner worthy of the Lord, then bearing fruit, and then a deeper knowledge of God. Stopping at belief is not where Paul stops. And James 4:17 presses that point further: knowing without doing is itself called sin, so the prayer is never abstract.

Pastor Mike, working through John 7, added the piece that sits underneath all of it. The hinge verse is John 7:17: if anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether the teaching comes from God. Understanding scripture is not primarily a mental problem, Pastor Mike said. It is a heart problem. A person who is genuinely willing to align their will with God's will is the person who begins to understand whether teaching is true. The willingness comes before the knowing, not after it.

Taught from Colossians 1:9-14 · John 7:17 · James 4:17 · Luke 6:27 · Philippians 2:13

The passage taught · Isaiah 61

1 The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me; because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound;

2 to proclaim the year of Yahweh’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;

3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, that he may be glorified.

4 They will rebuild the old ruins. They will raise up the places long devastated. They will repair the ruined cities, that have been devastated for many generations.
