What does First B Jackson teach about peer pressure?
Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.
At First B Jackson, the teaching on peer pressure starts with honesty about how early the pattern forms. In his Graduation Sunday message, Pastor Michael Demetrius asked the room to think back to middle school and high school, not out of nostalgia but because he wanted people to be honest with themselves. He described watching students drift away from adults and toward conversations and behaviors they knew better than to have in the open, and his point was that most of us learned very young to perform differently depending on who was watching. That habit, he said, does not simply stop at graduation.
Mike worked through Matthew 7:24-27, where Jesus describes two builders facing the same storm with opposite results, and said he identifies more with the second builder than he would like to. He shaped his message around three things he tells students. The first is to walk in truth, because when we step outside what God's word says, we begin building a life that requires lies to hold it together. The second is to choose quality relationships carefully, because, as he put it to the graduates, your friends will determine the direction and the quality of your life. He was especially concerned about the moment when students drift from their parents right when they need that relationship most, and a peer with a bad idea can fill the space a parent used to occupy. The third is to walk in purity, particularly around sex, alcohol, and drugs.
The underlying conviction running through all three is that peer pressure works by replacing one foundation with another. Approval, belonging, and the path of least resistance can all feel like solid ground, but the storm eventually comes, and what the house is built on becomes the only thing that matters.

The passage taught · 1 Corinthians 10:13
13 No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
