What does First B Jackson teach about quiet time?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on quiet time starts with a simple conviction: God rewards those who diligently seek him, and a personal time with him is one of the most direct ways to do that seeking. Steve Baldock, one of the church's elders, drew on James 4 and Hebrews 11:6 to make the case that this kind of time is not optional decoration on the Christian life. It is the posture of someone who actually believes God is present and worth pursuing.

Steve was practical and personal about what makes a quiet time actually hold together. He said it needs to be intentional, routine, and repetitive. For him that means setting out his Bible, a notepad, a pen, his glasses, and his coffee cup the night before, so that when he gets up there is nothing to hunt for and no friction to talk himself out of it. The routine itself is simple: pray and ask God to speak, read, then write down whatever came, even if it is only the date and the passage reference. The point is not a polished spiritual journal. The point is showing up consistently.

The broader frame Steve put around this is that seeking God is something a person does as an active participant, not a passive one. The same shift he described for Sunday morning, thinking of yourself as the one bringing something to God rather than simply receiving, applies to the quiet hour at home. You come with expectation, you ask God to speak, and you pay enough attention to write something down afterward.

Taught from James 4:8 · Hebrews 11:6 · 1 Peter 2:4-5 · Ephesians 4:11-13 · Psalm 19:14

The passage taught · 1 Peter 2:4-5

4 coming to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious.

5 You also, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
