What does First B Jackson teach about serving two masters?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on serving two masters comes out of Luke 16, where Jesus moves from the parable of the shrewd manager straight into a hard statement about money and character. Both Pastor Scott and Pastor Ray have worked through the full chapter and landed on the same point: the way a person handles money is not a side issue, it is a window into who that person actually is. Jesus does not say money is evil, but He says plainly that you cannot serve both God and money, and that what you do with what you have while you still have time to do something with it will reveal your actual loyalties.

Pastor Ray drew attention to what Luke records about the Pharisees hearing all of this. They were lovers of money, and their reaction, the Greek word Luke uses, carries the image of blowing something out of your nose, as dismissive a gesture as there is. Jesus turns to them directly and tells them that what gets a person lifted up among people is often detestable to God, and that they were justifying themselves before people while God already knew their hearts. The contrast Jesus draws is not subtle: the priorities that earn human approval and the priorities God looks for are frequently not the same thing.

The practical conclusion both messages press toward is that faithfulness with small things and with things that belong to someone else is the training ground for anything larger. A person who is stingy with a little will be stingy with a lot. Worldly wealth is temporary, Jesus says, and what matters is what the handling of it reveals about a person's character and about where that person's trust actually sits.
