What does First B Jackson teach about shame?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on shame is grounded in the conviction that God's grace is sufficient to cover whatever an honest look at yourself turns up. In Pastor Brian's series on the twelve steps, he worked through the reality that most people who carry shame get stuck between knowing something is wrong and actually doing something about it. That window, which he called the rattle, is a dangerous place to sit. The way out is not more self-examination but the next step forward: confessing to God, to yourself, and to another person who is a step ahead of you. That movement, Brian taught, is what the Bible means by confession, agreeing with God about what God already sees, and James 5:16 is the warrant for doing it with another human being present.

Pastor Craig's sermon from Luke 7 looked at shame from a different angle. The woman who wept over Jesus' feet in Simon's house was carrying the full weight of public shame, and she was not thinking about any of it. What drove her was the knowledge of how much she had already been forgiven. Craig drew a sharp contrast between her and Simon, who had never felt that weight and so had never felt that love. The teaching was direct: the people who love Jesus most deeply are usually the people who know most clearly what they have been forgiven of. Shame, when it leads to that kind of honesty before God, becomes the beginning of something rather than the end.

Taken together, the consistent message at First B Jackson is that shame does not have to be carried alone and does not have to be the last word. Confession, both to God and to a trusted person, is where the weight begins to lift. And the love that floods in on the other side of that honesty is, as both messages show, proportional to how clearly a person has seen what they needed forgiveness for in the first place.
