In one paragraph

This message was a foundation-setting talk on what it means to live as a new creation in Christ, given by Amy at First Baptist Jackson. The core question she kept returning to was simple: do we actually believe what God says about us, or do we keep speaking our old nature back over ourselves? She planned to follow it the next week with practical exercises on how to walk it out. Amy opened with a...

Talk about it

  1. Amy shared that God told her she could not go further in her walk with Him until she agreed with what He said about her. What has made it hard for you personally to receive and agree with what God says about who you are?
  2. Amy described a tendency to speak our old nature over ourselves rather than what God says we now are as a new creation in Christ. Where do you notice that pattern most in your own life or in the way people around you talk about themselves?
  3. The footnote from the Amplified Bible on Exodus 3:11 said that Moses questioning God's call was not humility but something inconsistent with true faith, and that to do so is to depreciate God's wisdom or doubt His power. Does that reframe how you have thought about self-deprecation or saying you cannot do something God is calling you to? How so?
  4. Amy drew a distinction between condemnation and conviction: condemnation says your behavior is your identity, while conviction says you are too awesome to be acting this way and calls you back to who you really are. Can you think of a time when you mistook one for the other, and what difference would it have made to recognize which it was?
  5. Amy described a vision of herself sitting in a prison cell with the gate wide open, and said her own fear kept her inside even though God had already set her free. Is there an area of your life where you sense the gate is open but you have stayed inside? What would it look like to walk out?
