Talk about it
- Josh read a poem that says 'I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day.' Where have you seen someone's life communicate the gospel more clearly than their words did?
- Pastor Ray pointed out that when Jesus warned Satan would sift the disciples like wheat, the 'you' is plural, meaning the warning and the prayer were for all of them, not just Peter. How does it change the way you read that passage to know Jesus was interceding for the whole group, and by extension for us?
- Peter insisted he would never deny Jesus, even to death, right before he did exactly that. Pastor Ray said we often do not realize our own limitations the way Jesus does. Where in your own life have you been confident you would hold up, and then discovered you were weaker than you thought?
- In Gethsemane, Jesus prayed three times that the cup might pass, each time surrendering to the Father's will. Pastor Ray connected this to Abraham trusting God on the mountain. What does it look like practically to pray honestly for a way out of something hard while still submitting to God's will?
- Luke notes that Peter, James, and John were found sleeping 'from sorrow,' meaning they had cried themselves to sleep watching Jesus' agony. How does that detail shift the way you feel about them, and what does it say about how grief and faithfulness can exist at the same time?
