What does First B Jackson teach about lord's supper?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on the Lord's Supper goes back to what Paul restated in 1 Corinthians 11 and what the Gospel accounts record from the night Jesus was betrayed. The preacher in the message titled "Called Out and Called Into" worked through Paul's rebuke of the Corinthian church verse by verse, noting that Jesus himself kept the meaning simple: He took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and said to eat it in remembrance of Him. He took the cup and said to drink it in remembrance of Him. The whole point, as the preacher put it, is remembrance of His broken body and shed blood, and it is striking that the church has made so complicated a thing that Jesus described so plainly.

The context Paul was correcting matters too. Wealthier members in Corinth were arriving early and eating their fill before working people could get there, turning the one gathering where every distinction was supposed to collapse into a display of the same social divisions that existed outside the church. The preacher traced Paul's language closely: schismata, the rips and tears opening up in the body, and heresis, self-chosen opinion elevated until it divides. Paul's point was that the Lord's Supper is for people called out of every background and into one body at the foot of the cross, and what Corinth was doing was the opposite of that.

The warning Paul attaches to this is serious. Coming to the table without self-examination, eating and drinking in an unworthy manner, is not a neutral act. The preacher pressed the congregation toward honest self-examination ahead of taking communion together. A separate message on March 17, 2024, traced the institution of the Lord's Supper through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and 1 Corinthians together, connecting the phrase "blood of the covenant" back to Moses in Exodus 24, to Zechariah 9:11, and forward to Jeremiah 31's promise of a new covenant written on hearts rather than stone, where God promised to forgive wrongdoing and remember sin no more. The cup, all the accounts agree, proclaims the Lord's death until He comes again.

Taught from 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 · 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 · Jeremiah 31:31-34 · Exodus 24 · Zechariah 9:11

The passage taught · 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

23 For I received from the Lord that which also I delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which he was betrayed took bread.

24 When he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in memory of me.”

25 In the same way he also took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me.”

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
