What does First B Jackson teach about belief?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on belief is not treated as a finishing line you cross once and leave behind. It comes up repeatedly as the central question Jesus himself presses on people. In the John 6 message, the crowd that had just watched Jesus feed thousands asked what they had to do to do the works of God, and Jesus answered simply: believe in the one God has sent. That answer cut across everything they expected. They wanted another sign. He pointed them to himself.

Pastor Mark, preaching on Easter Sunday from Luke 24, put belief at the hinge of a three-part movement he traced through the resurrection story. The Emmaus disciples had seen Jesus perform miracles and heard his teaching, and they still walked away from Jerusalem saying "we had hoped," putting their faith in the past tense. The resurrection, he said, is what turns that tense back into the present. Belief is not optimism about outcomes. It is a response to something God has actually done, something completed in the past whose effect carries permanently forward.

Carl returned to the same question from John 10, where the healing of a man born blind in John 9 sets up everything that follows. The healed man believes and worships. The Pharisees, certain they already see, grow harder. Jesus draws the line clearly: his sheep hear his voice, they recognize it, and they follow. The whole shape of that passage keeps pressing toward one thing, whether a person is willing to hear and believe him.

The passage taught · John 10:1-21

1 “Most certainly, I tell you, one who doesn’t enter by the door into the sheep fold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

2 But one who enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out.

4 Whenever he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.
