What does First B Jackson teach about faith in action?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First Baptist Jackson, teaching on faith in action starts with a simple conviction: genuine belief always shows itself. Pastor Carl put it plainly in the James study, that work cannot save, but saving faith is always at work. James, writing to scattered and persecuted believers, called them to endure trials because tested faith produces endurance, and endurance produces the kind of maturity and completeness God is after. The doing is never a way to earn something from God. It is a response to what God has already done.

Natalie pressed the same point from a different angle in the women's study through Matthew 8 through 11. Following Jesus is not passive agreement with his teachings. It is an active apprenticeship with three clear goals: to be with Jesus, to become like him, and to do as he did. She drew on the first-century picture of a disciple and a rabbi to show that the New Testament uses the word disciple nearly 300 times and the word Christian only three, because there was never a middle category of people who agreed with Jesus but did not follow him. Fruitful action flows from remaining in him, not from effort alone.

Pastor Ray brought the same theme to ground level in a study of the wedding at Cana. Mary's two instructions to the servants, listen to whatever Jesus says and then do it, are what faith in action looks like in practice. He noted that Mary did not know what Jesus would do or how he would act. She simply trusted him and pointed others toward obedience. The teaching here is consistent across years and speakers: faith that stays only in the mind has missed the point, and the life Jesus calls people into is one where trust and action build on each other, one step at a time.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.

Mentioned along the way

  1. February 8, 2022 He Willingly Allowed Himself John 18 shows Jesus willingly betrayed, arrested, and denied, yet determined to finish the Father's work. His faithfulness to the cross is the ground of our faith.
  2. March 26, 2017 What We Have With Him Is Better Without Him The preacher preaches on Luke 5:1-11, showing how Peter's trust in Jesus grew through relationship and why that trust is the foundation of following Christ.
  3. March 26, 2017 What We Have With Jesus Is Far Better Peter trusted Jesus one small step at a time, and it changed everything. A sermon from Luke 5 on how trust built through relationship leads us to follow Christ with abandon.
