What does First B Jackson teach about genealogy of jesus?
Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.
At First B Jackson, the teaching on the genealogy of Jesus takes the position that those long lists of names in Matthew and Luke are not throat-clearing before the real Christmas story begins. They are the Christmas story. Pastor Ray has made the case more than once that when something takes up this much of scripture, it is there for a reason, even if our eyes glaze over, and that skipping the genealogies the way readers tend to skip Chronicles is a mistake worth correcting.
Pastor Ray traces the two genealogies as doing different but complementary work. Matthew moves forward from Abraham to Jesus through Joseph's legal line, establishing Jesus as the rightful heir to David's throne. The covenant God made with Abraham, that in his seed all the nations of the earth would be blessed, is where Matthew deliberately begins, because Jesus is the fulfillment of that promise. Luke moves in the opposite direction, starting with Jesus and running all the way back to Adam and then to God, giving Jesus both a legal claim to David's throne and a fully human nature through Mary. The phrase 'as was commonly held the son of Joseph' in Luke, Pastor Ray has said, is the Gospel's signal that the biological father is not Joseph.
One of the things First B Jackson's teaching returns to is what the women in Matthew's list say about who God is and how He works. Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba are all named, and none of their stories are simple. Rahab was a Gentile and a harlot. Ruth was a Moabite. Pastor Matt has made a similar point from Matthew 2, noting that Matthew includes Gentiles from the beginning. The inclusion of outsiders in the line of the Messiah signals from the very first page that this is a universal gospel. God uses everything and everyone.

The passage taught · Genesis 12:1-3
1 Now Yahweh said to Abram, “Leave your country, and your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you.
2 I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who treates you with contempt. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”
