What does First B Jackson teach about law vs grace?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on law and grace starts with an honest look at what the law can and cannot do. Whether Pastor Mark, Pastor Mike, or Pastor Nate is working through Acts 15, or Pastor Brian is in Romans or 2 Corinthians, the consistent point is the same: the law is real and good, but no one has ever been able to carry it. The Old Testament record, as Pastor Mark put it, is one king after another doing evil in the sight of the Lord. The law tells you where you are wrong. It does not have the power to make you right. Peter's question at the Jerusalem Council puts the weight of that plainly: why place on new believers a yoke that neither their ancestors nor the Jewish believers themselves had ever been able to bear?

The answer the apostles reached at Jerusalem, and the answer First B Jackson keeps coming back to, is Peter's own conclusion: we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the same way the Gentiles are. That is not a departure from scripture but the fulfillment of it. James grounded the whole Jerusalem discussion in the prophets, showing that God's plan to bring people to Himself by grace through faith was declared long before the council met. Paul's allegory in Galatians makes the same case from a different angle: anyone trying to reach God through effort and rule-keeping is working in purely human resources and producing children born into slavery, while the free woman's child, born through promise and the power of the Spirit, is the picture of what the gospel actually offers.

Pastor Brian, working through 2 Corinthians 3, laid the contrast out plainly: the old covenant was written on stone and contained no mercy, while the new covenant is Christ writing on human hearts, unveiled, permanent, and life-giving. The law is not bad. It is genuinely good at what it is good for. But it was never the finish line. When Jesus said "It is finished," the ceremonial requirements ended, and what replaced them surpasses them not because the law was wrong but because grace in Christ is a different thing in kind, not just in degree.

The passage taught · Acts 10

1 Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment,

2 a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God.

3 At about the ninth hour of the day, he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God coming to him, and saying to him, “Cornelius!”

4 He, fastening his eyes on him, and being frightened, said, “What is it, Lord?” He said to him, “Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God.
