What does First B Jackson teach about loving others?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on loving others starts with a premise that runs through several messages: you cannot give away something you have not first received. Pastor David made this the center of a message on what it looks like to love others the way Jesus loves us. He walked through three connected movements, accepting others as Jesus accepts us, valuing others as Jesus values us, and forgiving others as Jesus forgives us. The thread holding all three together is that God's love toward us is the source and the model for love toward anyone else.

Pastor Carl taught a similar idea from John 15, where Jesus calls his followers to remain in him the way a branch stays connected to a vine. The fruit that grows out of that connection, Carl pointed out, includes love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness. This is not something a person strains to produce on their own. The fruit comes because the connection is there. Carl also pushed back against the idea that keeping Jesus's commands is a burden. Loving someone, he said, is actually easier than maintaining hatred. Holding on to unforgiveness is one of the hardest things a person can do, and the commands are meant to free us, not weigh us down.

Pastor Mark, teaching from 1 Peter 1, described the kind of love Peter calls for as fervent love from the heart, and he was equally clear that this is not something people can manufacture on their own. Quoting John, he said we can love because God first loved us. Our love is a derived thing, flowing out of what God has already placed in us. Peter's short list of things to put aside, malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander, was treated by Pastor Mark as a prompt for honest self-examination, because those habits are exactly what crowds out the love the passage is calling for.
