What does First B Jackson teach about perseverance in faith?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on perseverance in faith takes the warnings of Hebrews seriously without softening them. Working through Hebrews 3 and 6, Pastor Mark and Pastor Stan both pressed the congregation to sit with the discomfort those passages produce rather than reaching for a theological position that makes the warnings easier to absorb. The wilderness generation of Israel serves as the central illustration: people who had seen God split the sea, rain down bread, and provide water from a rock, and who still hardened their hearts and asked whether God was really among them. That story was written down, as Paul makes clear in 1 Corinthians 10, as an example for us, not merely as ancient history.

The particular danger the book of Hebrews names is not dramatic moral collapse but something quieter: drifting, becoming dull in hearing, hardening by degrees. Pastor Stan pointed out that the deceitfulness of sin makes each act of hardening slightly easier than the last, and that the remedy offered in Hebrews 3 is daily, mutual encouragement within the body. Treating faith as a private matter leaves a person without the very support the text commands believers to give one another. The word "today" in Psalm 95, quoted directly by the writer of Hebrews and attributed to the Holy Spirit, carries urgency: the window for hearing and responding is open now, not indefinitely.

In Hebrews 6, Pastor Mark was honest about his own discomfort with the passage. He holds to eternal security and said so plainly, but he asked the congregation not to let that settled conviction cause them to flinch away from what the warning actually says. The people described in that passage, those who have been enlightened, have tasted the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, read most naturally as genuine believers. The warning against falling away is posted, as Pastor Mark put it by way of illustration, for people who might actually go over the edge, not for people who have already fallen. The call underneath all of it is the same one that runs from the beginning of the letter: consider Jesus, carefully and decisively, all the way through to a conclusion.
