What does First B Jackson teach about women in church?
Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.
At First B Jackson, the teaching on women in the church takes the relevant Scripture passages seriously without pretending they are simple. In the series through 1 Timothy, Pastor Ray worked through 1 Timothy 2:8-15 and called it the hardest text he had preached since coming to the church. He kept the whole discussion anchored to Paul's stated aim from chapter one: that godly love would flow from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. The instructions to men and women alike, he argued, are not arbitrary rules but grow directly out of the concern that how the church conducts itself either authenticates or undermines the truth it claims to hold. Later in the same series, Pastor Josh returned to the question in 1 Timothy 3, specifically the phrase 'women likewise' in the deacon passage, and was honest that the Greek text does not settle whether Paul means the wives of deacons or women serving as deacons themselves. He did not paper over the ambiguity.
In the 1 Corinthians series, Pastor Ray devoted a full message to the command for women to be silent in church, reading the verses plainly and then walking the congregation through two serious ways of understanding them. He grounded the discussion in the actual world of Corinth, including the practice at the Oracle of Delphi and Paul's earlier encounter with a spirit of divination in Philippi, arguing that cultural context is not optional background but essential to reading the passage honestly. He also noted that chapter 11 of the same letter assumes women were praying and prophesying in the gathered church, which any reading of chapter 14 has to account for.
Across all of these messages, First B has treated this as a topic that deserves careful handling rather than a quick answer in either direction. Rinsey Reno, the church's youth and tech director, put a practical frame around it in a Mother's Day message: women have supported, funded, stayed at the cross, and carried the news of the resurrection, and the church at First B could not properly minister without them. The through line in all of it is faithfulness, and the conviction that God works through people who hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.
