Talk about it
- The teacher described two ditches people fall into: treating God's grace as a license to keep sinning, or grinding away trying to live the Christian life in your own strength. Which of those two ditches do you find yourself closer to, and what does that look like in your day-to-day life?
- Romans 8:13 says if by the spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. John Owen's line was quoted: 'Be killing sin or it will be killing you.' What does it actually look like, in a practical sense, to fight your own sin rather than being preoccupied with the sin you see in the world around you?
- The sermon described the Holy Spirit and Jesus both interceding for us before God, and said that because of this, no one can bring a charge against God's elect. How does it change the way you pray or the way you face a hard day to know that God is praying His own will for you?
- Romans 8 pictures all of creation groaning like a woman in labor, and says we ourselves groan as we wait for the full redemption of our bodies. Where do you feel that groaning most right now, and how does knowing it is leading somewhere, like birth pains leading to new life, change how you sit with it?
- The teacher closed by saying Jesus is not just 'the way to get to heaven' but a person to be treasured, and that our eternity is going to be with Him. How does thinking of your relationship with God as a relationship with a person, rather than a system to follow, change what the Christian life feels like to you?
