What does First B Jackson teach about prosperity gospel?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on the prosperity gospel is consistent and direct: the claim that God wants believers healthy and wealthy, that you can name it and claim it, is false. Pastor Carl has called it plainly "hogwash," and so has Pastor Ray. The point both of them press is that God does bless His children, but He has not set up a system by which anyone twists His arm into delivering a desired outcome. Godliness is not a means of financial gain. What Paul actually says, as Pastor Nathan and Pastor Bryan have both worked through from 1 Timothy 6, is that godliness paired with contentment is where real gain is found, and that those who are always desiring to be rich fall into a snare that pulls them toward ruin, not abundance.

Pastor Ray made the counter-case as starkly as anyone, standing in Romans 8 and Hebrews 11. He read through the hall of faith, the people who conquered kingdoms and stopped lions, and then the other side of that same chapter, the people who were mocked, flogged, chained, and sawn in two. Of those people the writer says the world was not worthy. Against that backdrop, Pastor Ray said plainly that the prosperity gospel is hogwash, and that the only thing guaranteed on this side of eternity is trial, tribulation, and temptation. The sufferings Paul calls light in Romans 8:18 are not dismissed, but they are put in proportion against a glory that has no comparison.

The church's teaching does not stop at refuting a bad idea. Pastor Bryan, working through the same passage in 1 Timothy 6, traced what Paul tells Timothy to do instead: flee the love of money and the craving for more, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness. The direction of a person's appetite, what they are always reaching for, determines where they end up. That is the practical weight the teaching leaves with the congregation.

The passage taught · 1 Corinthians 10:13

13 No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
