What does First B Jackson teach about renewing your mind?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on renewing your mind starts with Romans 12:1-2 and treats those two verses as inseparable from everything Paul has already established in chapters 1 through 11. Carl has taught that the transformed mind is not the starting point but the result: as a person trusts in Christ, God's Spirit is born in them, and God begins to renew the way they think. That renewed mind is what makes it possible to test and approve what God's will is. The transformation described in verse two is God's doing, not a self-improvement project, and both the command not to conform and the call to be transformed are continuous present tense, meaning neither is a one-time event.

Ray McDaniel built on that foundation by pressing on what the renewal is actually pushing against. He described the pattern of the world as individualistic, self-sufficient, self-centered, defensive, proud, greedy, and xenophobic. A mind being renewed by God gradually stops overestimating itself and starts operating with what Paul calls sound judgment, seeing both its own limits and its God-given gifts more clearly. Ryan connected this same idea to a prayer that asks God to clear away wrong thinking so that actual truth can be seen, even when it is uncomfortable.

Deborah Buckingham added that the mind is not a neutral data-processor. It carries a whole orientation, a viewpoint that colors everything we see, and that orientation is what has to change. She drew on Ephesians 4 to make the point that the only thing capable of changing it is God's Word, because His Word is His mind, and taking it in is how we begin to reflect Him. The image Paul uses elsewhere, the metamorphosis of a caterpillar, makes clear this is not a minor adjustment but a complete remaking. The practical challenge she named is that a living sacrifice keeps crawling off the altar when the heat rises, and the renewed mind is the mechanism for staying put.
