What does First B Jackson teach about sound doctrine?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on sound doctrine starts with what it is for: not a theological exercise, but the foundation that makes faithful Christian living possible. Working through Titus 1 and 2, Pastor Brian showed that Paul's first requirement for an elder is that he holds firm to the trustworthy word just as it was taught, so that he can give instruction in sound doctrine and rebuke those who contradict it. The job of church leadership, as these messages frame it, is not to come up with something new but to pass on what was received without adding to it or taking away from it, because the moment anything is added to grace it is no longer grace.

Pastor Josh, working through the same territory in Titus 2, showed that sound doctrine has a shape in everyday life. Paul's household code for older men, older women, younger women, and younger men all carry the same thread: self-control, with the grace of God as the only power that actually produces it. The goal is not rule-keeping for its own sake. Paul makes it explicit that younger women are to live a certain way so that the word of God may not be reviled, and bond servants are to behave so that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. The life of a believer is meant to make the teaching about God and salvation compelling to the people around them.

The messages from 2 Timothy 4 bring the same concern into the work of preaching. Pastor Josh and Pastor Nathan both pressed Paul's charge to Timothy: preach the word, reprove, rebuke, exhort, all with great patience and instruction. The threat Paul names is not outside the church but inside it, people who will no longer endure sound teaching and will accumulate teachers to suit their own desires. That is why the practice at First B of working straight through Bible books, rather than building sermons around themes or felt needs, has a foundation here. The word itself is what equips people, and that is why it has to be the thing proclaimed.

The passage taught · 1 Corinthians 4

1 So let a man think of us as Christ’s servants, and stewards of God’s mysteries.

2 Here, moreover, it is required of stewards, that they be found faithful.

3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by man’s judgment. Yes, I don’t judge my own self.

4 For I know nothing against myself. Yet I am not justified by this, but he who judges me is the Lord.
