What does First B Jackson teach about suffering and hope?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on suffering and hope begins with what Jesus himself modeled. In a message on Isaiah 49, Pastor Ray McDaniel traced how the servant of God in that passage cried out that he had labored in vain, and Ray connected that directly to Jesus in Gethsemane, falling face down and asking that the cup pass from him, and to the cry of dereliction on the cross. Drawing from Hebrews 5 and 1 Peter 2, he showed that Jesus genuinely suffered discouragement and yet kept entrusting himself to the Father who judges rightly. That pattern, walking the steps God has set even when they lead somewhere frightening or painful, is what believers are called to follow.

The teaching in Romans 5 pressed on what justification by faith produces in hard seasons. Pastor Blake and Pastor Steve both worked through the chain Paul lays out: tribulation produces perseverance, perseverance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. Both noted that perseverance cannot be demonstrated without hard times, and that proven character is precisely what does not get faked during genuine difficulty. Whether a person is in a good season or a hard one, the road arrives at the same destination.

The anchor underneath all of it, as the Romans teaching made clear, is that hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Suffering is not a sign that God has stepped back. It is the very ground on which trust is tested and proven, and the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is the same Spirit at work in those who belong to Christ.

The passage taught · 1 Peter 2

1 Putting away therefore all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all evil speaking,

2 as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that with it you may grow,

3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious:

4 coming to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious.
