What does First B Jackson teach about trusting god?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on trusting God starts with an honest acknowledgment that trust is not something that arrives fully formed. Working through Philippians 4:10-13, Pastor Van Jones made the point that contentment rooted in God's sovereignty is something that has to be learned through actual experience, in both poverty and plenty. He drew on the Puritan writer Jeremiah Burroughs, who described it as "the rare jewel of Christian contentment: that sweet, inward, quiet, gracious frame of spirit that freely submits to and delights in God's wise and fatherly disposal in every condition." The encouraging word in the text, Van said, is that Paul says he "learned" to be content, which means the rest of us can learn it too.

The teaching on Habakkuk pressed the same conviction from a different angle. Both Pastor Florian and Pastor Jeff worked through Habakkuk's back-and-forth wrestling with God over violence and injustice, and both landed on the same point: trusting God is not the same as understanding God. Habakkuk did not dress up his complaints or pretend the situation made sense. He named what he saw, pressed God hard on the contradiction between God's holiness and what He appeared to be allowing, and then planted himself at his watch post and waited. The answer God gave him, written large for all to read, was Habakkuk 2:4, that the righteous shall live by faith. The man who opened the book crying about violence is the same man who closes it describing God's splendor covering the heavens, nations shaking before a sovereign Lord, and a settled resolve to rejoice even when the fig tree does not blossom and the fields yield nothing.

Across these messages, the consistent thread is that genuine trust comes through genuine struggle, not around it. Whether it is Paul learning contentment through seasons of need and abundance, or Habakkuk arriving at praise after honest lament, the teaching here is that God is neither surprised by the wrestling nor put off by it. What He calls people toward is not a forced cheerfulness but a faith that holds onto His character when circumstances make no sense.

From The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment

The passage taught · 1 Thessalonians 5

1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.

2 For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.

3 For when they are saying, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.

4 But you, brothers, aren’t in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.
