What does First B Jackson teach about holy spirit?

Drawn from the messages where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At First B Jackson, the teaching on the Holy Spirit begins with the conviction that the Spirit is not a footnote to the Christian life but the engine of it. When Pastor Josh opened the Acts series, he pointed to Acts 1:8 as the hinge the whole book turns on: Jesus told his disciples they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them, and that power was for the purpose of witness, starting in Jerusalem and spreading to the ends of the earth. The disciples did not manufacture that moment by effort or planning. They prayed, stayed together, obeyed what they had already been told, and waited. The Spirit arrived on God's timing.

At Pentecost in Acts 2, the Spirit came with unmistakable signs, a sound like a rushing wind, tongues of fire settling on each person present, and believers speaking in languages they had never learned so that devout Jews from across the known world heard the mighty works of God in their own native tongues. Pastor Josh connected that moment to the Tower of Babel, reading Pentecost as the reversal of the scattering, the languages that once divided humanity now serving to draw people together around the good news of Jesus. Peter's sermon that morning quoted Joel's prophecy that God would pour out His Spirit on all people, and about three thousand believed. What followed was a community devoted to teaching, fellowship, shared meals, and prayer, the ordinary daily shape of a Spirit-filled people.

The teaching has also been honest about what happens when the Spirit's work is misunderstood or missed. In Acts 8, when Peter and John arrived in Samaria and laid hands on the new believers so that they received the Holy Spirit, Simon the Sorcerer saw what happened and tried to buy the ability to pass the Spirit on. Pastor Josh and Pastor Toby both pressed hard on the contrast between Simon, whose whole life pointed toward Simon, and Philip, whose message pointed toward Jesus. Later in the Acts series, Pastor Brian traced what it looked like when a group of disciples in Ephesus had received only John's baptism and had never even heard that the Holy Spirit had been given. The question Paul put to them, whether they had received the Holy Spirit when they believed, was not a trick question. It was the genuine diagnostic of whether the fuller gospel had reached them. Repentance, as Pastor Brian put it, is not the same thing as redemption, and behavior modification is not the gospel. The Spirit is what makes the difference.

The passage taught · Acts 10

1 Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment,

2 a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God.

3 At about the ninth hour of the day, he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God coming to him, and saying to him, “Cornelius!”

4 He, fastening his eyes on him, and being frightened, said, “What is it, Lord?” He said to him, “Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God.
